Probably my favourite Edinburgh pub. The seafood is great too.
Fantastic food and drink - only beaten by the level of service from the staff.
Very nice indeed. Ordered a Bloody Mary and a steak sandwich. And a steak sandwich. That's how good it was. Highly recommended by my friend Mr Underhill, and I am now in agreement. Marvellous!
Venue for an annual Fringe lunch with friends, this is a great seafood and traditional Scottish restaurant with some lovely dishes, most of which I ve tried over the past 5 years. Well worth a visit.
They pour a fine Guinness. Gets really busy though.
Fantastic ornate Victorian gin palace behind Princes Street. Pricey food.
You must visit this place if you come to Edinburgh. The food was delicious and at a very reasonable price. The service was amazing, very polite and eager to help us and recommend dishes. The atmosphere was exactly what we expected, making us feel like we were having an authentic Scottish experience!
On of the best pub that you can visit in town. Usually busy but don't let that put you off. Mussels are great to order if you are able to a table. Good selection of Malts and beer on tap. You won't be disappointed.
Excellent place, more than a pub,gd beer and relaxation.
The decor is that of a Toulouse Lautrec bar scene. A brass plaque on the wall says that the Oscar winning movie Chariots of Fire was filmed in the restaurant. Food and drink superb. Staff very attentive in the restaurant. Food outstanding and the Pinot Noir very drinkable. Staff in the restaurant were very attentive but didn't rush you.
Amazing seafood. In business 150 years for a reason!
Outstanding Edinburgh Victorian bar with superb wood, glass and tiled interior. Great choice of real ales and food. Can get busy.
Love this place - used it for social and business meet ups. Never had a bad experience
A beautiful bar with great surroundings. Lots of brass fittings and a tiled mosaic wall. They serve good food, specialise in seafood, and have a good beer selection.
The oysters were some of the best we've ever had and they had some really interesting ways of serving them (like Asian style). We sat and ate at the bar, the wine was lovely. It was busy and died down after a bit... However I can't blame a place for being busy and popular! The staff were pleasant and quick to serve and we could eat at the bar so we were more than happy. The building is stunning and feels like you're stepping back in time in a good way!
Fabulous as always-wonderful staff and service. C. Campbell
A great beer selection and busy little pub! I ve yet to try the food but it s always busy! Great atmosphere
Highly decorated with various qualty drinks. Can be very busy at most times of the day with tourists.
Great pub with real old world charm to explore the best of Scotland. Great bartenders and excellent food.
Great atmosphere; great style. Prices affordable by the middle class clientele.
Delicious food, especially seafood. Great atmosphere and service. The perfect place for lunch, dinner or a drink :)
As always, excellent beer, wines and spirits plus delicious food and service. A grand evening out in a lovely historical pub
Great food (I tried oysters and haggis), love the bar setting, very nice and knowledgeable staff and great choice of gin.
Classic old Edinburgh pub. Food in the bar is very very good and the service is quick and gracious. Lots of fine proper beers. Can't go wrong if you take your friends here. Busy but fun after work.
One of my favourite Edinburgh pubs. Central location and always a great selection of beer. Had a bad experience recently though where it took over 30 mins for us to get the bill and pay up. When we asked to split, this involved them having to go back three times and print an individual bill for each of us!
The best Salmon I have had in any restaurant. Stunning decor with a great friendly server!
A lovely pub and restaurant excellent food and choice of beers very friendly helpful staff.
Love this pub in Edinburgh. It's always very busy though.
155 year old bar, beautiful decoration and tile panels. Good real ale selection. The best Bloody Mary cocktail in Edinburgh. Good for light meals and seafood. More extensive menu available in adjoining restaurant.
Tremendous bar and restaurant in central Edinburgh. Great place to meet people for a drink or meal. Great atmosphere in a lovely room with fascinating decor and lots of interesting pictures on the wall. Obviously been there for a long time. Top class drinks and food and efficient service even when busy, which it seems to be a lot. Highly recommended.
I had good beer and delicious sandwich plus good service here.
Traditional pub with central bar, great selection of ales & whiskies
It was very busy yesterday as one expect at this time of year but bar staff were excellent. The food was good too though I did hear a complaint from a lady friend of ours who ordered a salmon sandwich which turned out to be a thick doorstep of a sandwich accompanied by chips which she didn't order.
No football colors! Really nice bar, good food. Sandwiches was great, Victorian style, very nice staff, takes cards, full service food around bar area
Bit pricey but food is good and place is beautiful. It breaths the history and worth to go there.
Good pub, good food good service but very busy pub not a lot of room
Proper pub hidden behind the East end of princes st. Cask ales available. Serves food too, although I didn't eat here.
Legitimately good service, good food, good atmosphere. Zero complaints.
Really busy on the evening so went back the next day at 12pm had oysters and mulled wine and a nice big table. Staff and service great can't wait to go back next year
A bit pricey but that's Edinburgh hah - some nice paintings on the wall
Beautiful bar with good selection if beer and wine. Favourite with the locals and visitors.
Outrageous!! Worst restaurant I ve been to in Edinburgh. The staff is very rude and even blame me for being rude after they are rude. Flies everywhere. Too old. Internet not working. Can t satisfy customers need and blame them for that. If you can t accept complaints, you can t improve your business! Not mentioning the manager threatening a customer!! What a shame!! Don t go!! Will never go there again.
Nice place, friendly staff, very relaxing.. Chilled
Stunning building but very expensive - no doubt to ensure a snobby clientele. Full of pseudo-upper class paps. Service pretty slow
Been here many times. Always good service. So happy with it I've just arranged a meetup group for there on Fridays :-)
Great building, good choice of drinks, staff and service good
Outstanding Edinburgh Victorian bar with superb wood, glass and tiled interior. Great choice of real ales and food. Can get busy.
A beautiful pub and restaurant, well worth a visit.
Haven't been here since my student days. Wow, what a selection of beers on tap!
Could have stayed longer, but we were booked for a meal elsewhere. Might become my fave Edinburgh pub.
It was so empty unusual we actually got seats straight away
Good pub. Nice atmosphere. Little bit pricy but what you would expect for the centre of Edinburgh.
Very nice traditional pub in Edinburgh. A good selection of cask ales.
Doulton Tiles! What can I say that others haven't. Layout not changed, spruced up, modernised but not spoilt. Stairs to toilets steep and two corridors with no signs were ladies or gents where. Very clean when you find them, well the gents were!
Excellent food and you must order the oysters and cheese platter. The service was excellent as well.
Love this gem in Edinburgh and every time I visit annually I stop here to have a pint and some fish n chips - great service, Wonderful stain glass with brown antique wood - order at the bar after you decide from the menu.
The menu is pretty big with lots to choose from but definitely the FnChips are my favorite.
