I went there on Thanksgiving and one of the few occasions I get to spend having a dinner with my parents and all of our children only to be severely disappointed! They were out of prime rib at 1:30 pm. Then they were out of apple pie as well. The food was slopped on our plates with a TINY TINY TINY amount of stuffing and cranberry sauce. The meat was just small bits and there were no slices to be found. The pie was served bare (no whipped cream) and cold... The pumpkin bread pudding was dry and tasteless. We couldn't even bare to eat it! We have eaten there numerous times and never had an issue! This was a horrible experience and we were compensated by a measly $30 off our bill and a $25 gift card. If this is how you treat the people in your community I'll go across the street to the newly renovated Granville Inn instead! The Buxton made this one of the worst holiday experiences I've EVER had!

At this rate, the room was very average. The Hotel offered continental breakfast which consisted of corn flakes and milk, and day old muffins, nothing else. The restaurant does not serve breakfast. The desk staff was hit and miss. Days 1 and 3, very friendly. Day 2, the person working could not be bothered with the guests. Housekeeping did not restock coffee. Maybe I would have given 3 stars if the toilet flushed without playing with the handle every time :)

The Happy Hour here is amazing! $2 Domestics, $3 Margs, and half-off appetizers. Really neat area in the basement, which is said to be haunted. I didn't see or feel any ghost, but the food and beer tasted good. I will be coming back for sure!

A friend and I went for Sunday brunch and helped ourselves to the delicious buffet. The food was excellent and tasted like it was straight from farm to table and the mimosas were great as well. It is in a beautiful, historic building with all the charm and simplistic elegance one would expect from an inn that has stood for 200 years. Our waitress was kind and courteous and the owner was also very hospitable and enjoyed speaking with guests. The Buxton Inn is a wonderful addition to the quaint, historic town of Granville, Ohio.

Told me I could get a roll away bed when I made the reservation. Even told me again they could at check in when I was walked by staff to my room. Then all of a sudden I couldn't get one when we were ready to go to sleep for the night because my room was "incompatible."

We had dinner downstairs and it was excellent. We have been there many times but this is the first time we've been there since they pulled the booths out.
Great atmosphere and really good service, the only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the metal chairs that they have at the tables are unpadded and uncomfortable and I've never been to a place that doesn't carry regular Budweiser but no biggie we will be back

Ok, pros and cons. Pros: The buildings have sooo much character being that they were built in the 1800s. The staff was accommodating and the bartender actually ran into us later that evening and showed us a few cool spots. The restaurant in the Inn...FABULOUS FOOD! The seafood Chesapeake is the best! The garden in the courtyard is serene.

Cons: I booked online looking for a haunted hotel to check out as a fun trip for our family. Definitely call to book. We ended up not in the main hotel but in the Warner House 2 houses down on the 2nd floor. Stairs were straight up like climbing a ladder. We are younger and had teenagers to help out, but I'm sure not everyone could handle carrying luggage up those stairs. The website isn't really clear on room sizes. Last and kinda of a weird issue but whatever cheap toilet paper they had was not, um, lady friendly.

Overall, great little historical quaint town to visit. No ghost sightings, unfortunately, but all in all a good 24 hour road trip. Hope these tips helped you out.

I can't say enough about the wait-staff at the Buxton Inn, in particular ANTHONY!! What an attentive, considerate, knowledgeable, enjoyable and funny guy! (He sings too!)
He shared some great stories, at our request, and made our late night dining experience delightful! So much so that we as already booked our room for next year!! Hope you havent been snatched up by some competitor before then...we want to go on the ghost tour!!
I would be remiss if i didn't mention Arlena..
the lovely manager who also gave us all the time and attention that we wanted.
Overall, the historic room, the location, and the STAFF made our stay amazing! C u next year!!
Warm Regards,
Stacy H.

This Inn was extremely nice. Everyone was super friendly at the front desk. The rooms were very clean and filled with what appeared to be antique furnishings. The draperies were hung perfect and there was nothing out of place. The bath towels were huge and there were plenty of them. The beds were comfortable and we all slept great. I would highly recommend enjoying this historic Inn.

My partner and I stayed in room #7 in the main building. The rumors of this place being haunted are true. Mike and I are sensitive to spirits and we saw shadows on two occasions darting around the property. We each heard whistling outside of our room's window, and felt like we were being stared at basically all the time! We plan to return on a haunted tour with a group of our ghost hunting friends. The room was beautiful as was the hotel and the service was very friendly.

The service was timed well. Water and coffee was topped off frequently. We were a large dinner party and received all our dinners at the same time. I didn't see any dinners get confused. They are not familiar with gluten free ingredients in some of their foods, but to compensate for the unknown coating on their fries, they offered a fruit bowl. The lunch salad I had was unique. It had lettuce greens, dried cranberries, and sweet and salty pecans. I chose their shrimp to go with it. The shrimp came on top and they had feta cheese and dressing in two separate containers on the side. I appreciated that because I don't prefer dressing on my main salad, but I liked it for dipping my shrimp into. The setting is like an old mansion with handcrafted and unique elements. The prices are steep, but worth it for stepping out of the box.

Our visit was very short, yet pleasant. Unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of time to spend there this time. But we'll definitely be back the next time we have the opportunity. The amenities were very clean and pleasant, and the staff was all accommodating and welcoming.

My husband and I recently stayed at The Buxton Inn in Granville, Ohio. The room was warm and clean. The food was superb and we found the staff to be accommodating and very friendly. Even the owners went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. We were treated to some Old Ohio Charm and we loved it.
If you find yourself in the Newark area, check this out, and be sure to visit The Tavern downstairs. For a special treat order the Southern Fried Brie. You'll love it.

Granville is a cool little town with plenty of history, much of it being right here at the Buxton Inn! They are happy to give you a tour of the buildings, top to bottom. If you're in Granville definitely stop by here for food and a fun history lesson.

My dad and about 25 members of our family went to the Buxton Inn for his 60th Birthday. We booked a room and said it was for a birthday party and we even accommodated them with making our time later so that our party wouldn't interfere with another large party that was scheduled that night. When we arrived they took us to a room where the tables were set up as individual tables so it was very hard to make conversations with people so we moved the table together ourselves. One of the waitresses seemed to be more on the ball than the other and began to take our orders right away. Then after they both took everyone's order, they made an announcement to the room of the specials for the night - which I thought was odd and definitely out of order. We brushed that one off as it wasn't that big of a deal. Then the waitress, that was on the ball, starting bringing out our food to half of the party that she waited on while the other half that had the other waitress didn't get any food served to them until 25 minutes later after we had already finished our meals and had already starting eating our dessert. This was unacceptable and even though half of the room received our meals right away most of the food was cold. Have you ever eaten cold prime rib? Its not very good and our potatoes were ice cold. The people that hadn't gotten their food were then told that they ran out of prime rib so they had to order something else. My sister ordered the NY strip steak medium, and when she finally received her food, the outside of the steak was completely black and the inside was still pink - this again didn't make sense to me. I tried it and it tasted like I was eating a piece of charcoal. Her boyfriends chicken was cooked the same way and was not good. We had mentioned a few of these problems to the waitress but didn't take the food back because it had been partially eaten and we try to deal with what we had been given due to what was supposed to be a nice special meal for my dad and family. Once we choked down our food we got the bills and then paid. We were all huddled by the door and getting ready to leave as the waitress, the one who was not doing a very good job, came up with the manager. The manager was very rude and smug and announced to the room that someone had not left a tip and the waitress made a scene as to where they were sitting of the ones that didn't leave a tip. I have never been one to not tip, but to each their own, and I do kind of see this persons point as to not tipping due to the service, not receiving their food till 25 minutes after most of us were served, the food was horrible, and when they asked for some simple butter and sour cream for the potato it was never brought. Spending that much money on meals, you would have the expectations of what the service should be like and a better standard and quality of food. No where is it a law to tip and tipping is supposed to reflect the experience and service of the one you are tipping, so I get the frustration and where the non-tip came into play. With all that said, I have never in my life seen anyone dispute not getting tipped. It was so unprofessional and out of line for this manager and the waitress on how they dealt with this situation. For one, they had the name on the receipt from the person who didn't tip, so they could have pulled that person aside and asked why there wasn't a tip and what they could have done better instead of announcing it to the room. But while the person who didn't leave a tip was justifying why they didn't to the manager in front of everyone, the waitress who was not very good at all, said she wasn't the one cooking the food so it wasn't her fault for the food being served like it was. Listen honey, you work with these people who make the food and you shouldn't be SERVING the crap food when I'm sure you know the food is crap! Tipping deals with the whole package, the food, the service, the atmosphere and all of those were extremely sub par. We had a way better experience with 20 of us on a short notice at the Olive Garden in Heath.

They didn't even try to wash the sheet... just replaced.. incredible they must need business badly if they charge $300 for a replacement sheet! Will never recommend this place.

Drove specifically to Grandville to have dinner at Buxton Inn... so horribly disappointed! Set in bar room, no one even acknowledged us for at least 18 min. The hostess had given us menus so it should have been obvious to any server that we weren't taken care of. Only 2 table was being served, 5 empty tables, 2 waitresses walking around, didnt even look at us! Finally went to hostess to see if we could get service, THEN another waiter came to wait on us. Husband ordered prime rib but got rib roast that was to salty too eat and my chicken divan was mediocre...still paid bill but would not recommend Buxton Inn for dinner.

We had my son's rehearsal dinner in the garden room on a summer Friday evening. The room looked lovely, the food was delicious and the servers were very attentive. The entire Inn looks beautiful following the recent renovations. Didn't have any ghostly guests for dinner, so I guess we'll have to go back & try again.

Thanks for everything!

Husband and I came here to celebrate my birthday weekend. Room was nice, but I was disappointed that the floors hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. There were pieces of plastic on the floor from people's clothes tags and crumbs around the entire room. I also found a couple hairs in the sheets when I pulled them back. For almost $300, I expected a little more cleanliness. The food was good at the restaurant. The staff told us that we were required to make reservations because they were almost to capacity, but when we arrived, there were only 2 other tables. The waiters and bar tenders were super nice and kept a smile on their faces the entire time. My husband was able to have a personalized cake delivered to our room, and the restaurant gave me slice of dessert with a candle which I really appreciated. We participated in the ghost tour which was a lot of fun and I'd recommend for others to try. Overall, we had a really nice experience and I believe it is worth a visit just for the history alone.

This place has a unique charm that seems to take you back in time. We had a dessert party the night before a wedding and it was the perfect venue. Staff were wonderful. The town is really cute and charming. It's a great place to hold a social gathering of friends and family. I highly recommend considering this place if you want to class up your event!

Granville is one of my favorite small cities, so on the way to visit friends we stopped for the night, and chose the Buxton Inn. We were so disappointed! We paid for a room that included breakfast for two at the restaurant, but due to COVID they were no longer offering breakfast, just dinner. Instead they gave us K-cups and mini Kellogg breakfast bars. We asked if the cookies and water were for the guests, and they said not without paying for them. If you have cancelled the breakfast, but are charging the same price, at least give your guests a free bottle of water - every hotel does this. Later, we went to the bar for the much advertised "Happy Hour" from 4-6. We arrived at 4:40 pm, and there was nobody there. When we finally found an employee she was so rude, and told us that the bartender was setting up and would be with us when he could. We were perplexed that he was setting up 40 minutes after the Happy Hour began (as were the other people at the bar waiting), but she basically told us to be quiet, sit down, and someone would be in shortly - before she stormed off. The employees that we encountered at this property were either annoyed, or simply unkind. Needless to say, we skipped "Happy Hour" and dinner at the inn, and walked downtown where we had had a wonderful evening of food, drinks at the local restaurants and Brewery! Unfortunately, the next time we are in town, we will stay at the Granville Inn.

We have lived in Granville for several years and have always meant to have brunch at The Buxton Inn, and we finally did. The service was very nice and the Inn had a historic interior- you can imagine people arriving by horseback and eating meals by candlelight. Sadly, the food was quite bland. I almost think I could have cooked something better at home. We will return to try dinner sometime and hope it is much better.

Very disappointed. I know covid and all has changed the way things are and how things are done but this property has taken an all time low approach. We stayed here 25 years ago for our honeymoon and again 10 years later made a reservation for Sunday night. Rate was comparable to each of the other times we stayed there and nothing was mentioned when we booked over the phone. However arriving we were given our unexpected surprises. First we were greeted by person at desk around 6pm saying great you are the last guests I was waiting for 2 arrive otherwise I was leaving at 9. Well didn't know I was under a time limit to check in... We said what are your pub hours tonight. Well its not open tonight and oh by the way there are a couple of granola bars on that table for tomorrow. Guess I should have guessed we needed to pick right then, but hey my bad should have known by the way we were greeted the office was not going to be opened in the morning either. With all the amenities that were not available the price I paid sure was not reflected. We had stayed the night previous in another well known hotel chain and with out the cook to order breakfast and limited manager reception the price was significantly reduced. Guess because they are not paying staff nor having the cost of food and beverage. Buxton should learn a bit or two of info when pricing accomodations when offering limited staff and amenities.

Made reservations in advance. Advised Inn that my partner was disabled and used a cane. Upon arrival check-in okay. Room was not properly cleaned and up three flights of stairs. Access was difficult for my partner. Bathtub had black grime on bottom. Dinner reservations were made next to fireplace. We were put in a completely different dining room. Waiter was great, until he didn't return. Evidently, he was fired. Meal was sent back twice due to being cold. I was given a bill twice what I actually spent on food. They had to redo the check. Bar closed at 10pm. Upon returning to room we were interrupted by the police. Allegedly, someone called stating we were fighting. I explained that my partner used a cane, and it probably made noise on the wooden floor when she went to the bathroom. She is also slightly hard of hearing and tends to talk loudly. The sound must have echoed as there is nothing to absorb sounds. It's the only way she can get around. Sometime later the police arrived again. This time asking us to leave at the request of management. We were not refunded. If you have a disability I highly recommend you look for another hotel. The service is not what was expected and seriously disappointing. Bed was rock hard. Worst experience ever had at any establishment.
