We have been visiting the Buxton since I was a child. While the ambiance has never changed, the food quality has greatly improved. Service is always impeccable.

Superb food and service. The dining was quaint and upscale. Loved the Louisiana Chicken. Miss the chocolate moose cake
Quaint area of Granville. Nice to walk around and window shop and grab food. Room was nice with a large bathroom. Didn't see any ghosts but did take the haunted tour. Very informative and guide had a great sense of humor. Be on the lookout for hidden doorways everywhere.
The Buxton Inn is a beautifully kept historic gem of Ohio. I loved that our room had a vintage vibe, yet it was sparkling clean! We stayed in the main building in room 7. All of the staff was so hospitable from the time we checked in till the time we checked out. We ate on the first floor restaurant and everything was delicious and our server was so nice and told us ghost stories when I asked about his experiences. We were even able to see the Underground Railroad passage in the basement tavern which was so cool! We even had a complimentary breakfast basket brought to our room at a time that we requested which was a really nice touch. The ONLY bad thing I have to say was that the guests in room 8 were extremely loud and annoying up until 4am, but obviously that s not the inn s fault. We will definitely be back :)
Lovely venue for a rehersal dinner. Wonderfull staff and food
Service was below standard, have to ask over and over again for the same thing. They make you feel like you ordered wrong when they give you over cooked meat. It will take an act of God for me to come back here.
PS. 2 other tables were complaining about their food this evening also.
Awesome historic inn with good food. Very nice service.
Nice, friendly place. 7AM breakfast is a bit on the late side when traveling on business.
The Historic Buxton Inn is incredible. I attended a wedding there, and it was beautiful. The food was amazing, and it was so picturesque and scenic. Highly recommend!
Vastly improved under new owners. Not great but at least as good as the Grandville Inn. Nice high quality menu and good service.
Enjoyed a lovely weekend for my son's wedding. It was the perfect venue for a small wedding. The accommodations were comfortable and tastefully decorated. The local shops, restaurants and farmers market were great activities for the wedding guests. Arlena and the staff at The Buxton made the wedding a beautiful event and made sure everyone was taken care of.
I was a great experience, had dinner in the restaurant and was great! S
First off this place is not haunted whatsoever! Brought a p-sb11 spirit device and an evp recorder and did not catch one thing in any room. And yes we stayed the night in what they say is the most haunted room #9. Now about the room. Due to structure issues the center of the room's floor is caving in so much that it feels that by the end of the night you are going to fall through the floor. The room is also extremely dirty with what looks like blood stains all over the curtain. We slept on top of the blankets due to the fear of bed bugs after staying up the entire night trying to catch a ghost. Last but not least do not eat at the restaurant. The food was really bad but the staff were really great. Do not waste your time or lack of sleep coming here.
Really quite a great place. We had a family gathering there and the food and service were both superb. Great rustic atmosphere as well, though it's on the pricey side.
Absolutely amazing time!!! Thank you Buxton Inn staff!!!
Full of history and very good food and atmosphere in one of their many different settings. Spinach artichoke dip was great.
I have stayed at hundreds of inns, B&Bs, etc. The Buxton appears nice but is loud. Very loud. HVAC units adorn the property and go on and off all night long. There's no escaping them. They kept me up all night long. Left me tired and exhausted before an important race the next morning. Left after the first night. Buxton offered no condolence, no refund, nothing at all. They have my money already, I guess.
The bathrooms were motel-like, with old scratchy towels. The tavern restaurant offered a $15 grilled vegetable salad that was nothing more that bagged arugula and a few tiny pieces of cold butternut squash.
Overall, an expensive, awful, sad lesson. I left tired, hungry and $250 less in my bank account.
Go elsewhere.
Staff did not explain brunch options, no soap holder in shower (stayed in Granger room) and when asked for tour was shown two bar/eating areas then 10 min later someone came to room & said there would be a tour at 9pm at $10 per head. With paying close to $300 per night one would think at the least they would verbally tell you what directions to head for a self tour. Enjoyed other Bed & Breakfast in lovely Granville more.
Room was ok, the main complaint was the staff and pricing. We booked one night for $119 and had to change our stay for the following week. Receptionist gladly moved our stay. Upon our card being charged the day before our stay the room was $249. The only explanation we got when we arrived was "room pricess are subject to change". How does it double on a non holiday weekend with nothing going on ??? And why would you not tell us when we changed our plans? Left feeling scammed by a staff that was cold and unfriendly
The Buxton inn is very old and historic. Our room was a nice mix of an older time with nice updated bathrooms. The restaurant was also very nice and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely stay there again.
Had a good time, good food and a overall pleasant experience
We stopped in for a drink at the tavern bar in the basement. Loved it! Very cool atmosphere and fun staff. We'll be back for sure!
The Buxton Inn has been a family favorite since I was young. We have spent multiple holidays, birthdays, and events there. After our meal we walk the grounds and the streets of Granville. There have been changes in owners, but they have never compromised the historic look or menu favorites like chicken curry soup. Thank you for maintaining such an iconic place!
Thus far I have really enjoyed my stay here. The room is nice and everyone on staff has been very friendly. We enjoyed a drink in the Blue Bar last night and are looking forward to dinner in The Tavern tonight.
A beautifully renovated and well-maintained inn, The Buxton is tastefully decorated each season. This summer there were colorful flowers, now greenery, garlands and ribbons for Christmas holidays. Decorated Christmas trees also line the main street of Granville. Food in restaurant at Buxton Inn is tasty and fresh.
I went there for the first time recently for a Christmas dinner with a volunteer group from a local museum I work with. It's such a beautiful place. The staff was great and the food was, too.
Fun place to visit! We went to the downstairs bar. Bartender was very friendly and told us ALOT of stories about the place.
The historical ghost tour was so much fun. The Buxton is beautiful with a lot of surprises ~ there are actually 26 rooms, who knew?!? Will definitely come for dinner or to visit one of the bars or for wine tasting.
I had my rehearsal dinner here in August. Tony with the event staff was wonderful to work with and contacted me several times in the days ahead to make sure everything would run smoothly. Our dinner was delicious, and the Greenhouse style room where we ate was absolutely gorgeous. The wedding party stayed here the night before as well, and we loved the charm of the Inn.
come visit this historic inn in grandveiw. the food is very good. the service friendly. the history is unbeatable. who knows you might even see the cat that walks around the place a "spirit cat".
This place was awesome! Excellent food and atmosphere. We did the ghost tour too. Lots of history and interesting things to see.
My husband and I stayed here over the weekend. It was a last minute decision and I'm so glad we ended up here. The staff was great, the room was beautiful and the restaurant was one of a kind! Our waiter was very kind and attentive. We tried some of the food he suggested and it ended up being the best meal we have ever had at a restaurant. Will definitely go back!
Went for the Thanksgiving buffet - waited for the food to be replenished several times. Wait up to 15 minutes for mashed potatoes and turkey in the buffet line. The turkey was processed food, not from an actual carved turkey. For well over $100 for 3 of us, they couldn't even give us coffee with our meal. Desserts were minimal too. We had been out of town dealing with ill parents and thought this would be the perfect spot to celebrate Thanksgiving. It turned out to be a huge disappointment. Had been to Cherry Valley and Granville Inn prior to this on Thanksgiving and there is no comparison. The Buxton is not even close to these 2 other places. Their staff could not keep up with the demands of a buffet plus the set up was in a difficult place to move in and around the restaurant. There needs to be a lot more planning and preparation done before this place can ever earn a high mark in my book although our plans are never to return there in the future.
If you love historic, this is the place for you! Really enjoyed the original woodwork and other period touches at the inn. Staff was very pleasant and helpful...accommodations comfortable. We had a great time touring the charming town, and staying at the Historic Buxton Inn was the best part! (The only suggestion for improvement would be room-darkening shades/transom curtains on the courtyard side...very bright at night!)
This review pertains to dining at the Buxton Inn and does not provide commentary on their accommodations. My husband and I dined in the Garden Room for dinner this past Saturday night and were unimpressed. I'm stretching to give a 3/5 because the atmosphere in such a historic building was very unique. For a small dinner menu, we expected they would do things really well, but were disappointed. My husband ordered the prime rib - it came out with no au jus nor horseradish and was dry and tough. It was the strangest cut of prime rib we had ever seen, with half of it inedible due to gristle. I had the crab cakes, which themselves were tasty, though lukewarm. My side of mashed potatoes were dry and not creamy, with the green beans limp and watery. Entrees were served on rectangular plates that were far too small and provided no space for cutting your food. There were no garnishes nor any attention paid to food presentation. I could have assembled a more attractive-looking plate and I have no formal culinary training. Service was mediocre, as our server never read the specials (I overheard another server reading them to her table) and slow, as I'm guessing the servers are assigned tables throughout the Inn's multiple dining rooms. I really expected more from this establishment given the reviews and reputation in the Granville area; we will not be returning.
Everything was perfect. The room, the staff, and the restaurant. The only thing that disappointed me was I didn't get to see a ghost! I highly recommend, and will definitely return.
This was my first time here! I had seen it online and read about it! What an amazing experience, we are celebrating our friends bday and asked to take a tour. They also had acoustic in the basement, which is the bar. Tim the manager was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the history here. I recommend seeing this and learning about it! I will be coming back to hopefully stay. Make sure you add this to your list of places to visit in Ohio! Ask for Tim!!!
Beautiful location, great Candlelight Christmas Tour visit. Historical, well kept, and great city.
The quiche was phenomenal and sitting under the greenhouse provides a quaint wonderful atmosphere for lunch.
Wonderful. They treat us with generosity. customer service during covid. LOVE THE STAFF.
They were very accommodating even when they went down because of the wind storm. I will always book there when in Granville. Its super convenient and just plain wonderful place to stay.
Enjoy happy hour in the century old tavern with great food and waitstaff.
Amazing place with great historic significance! Everyone shoukdcome see this place at least once
For a historical place it was a nice stay. Small quirky rooms. Restaurant that is attached was nice. A little over priced and lacking in flavor. Staff was very polite. We stayed in room 7 to see some paranormal activity but wasnt lucky. Srounding area is and some neat little shops.
Really awesome place to stay! I went for a school project on ghosts and everyone was super helpful in giving details about the history of the Inn. Would recommend 10/10.
Great place seating in small quite town, great place to take a walk around town after meal
If you are a historic location buff, this place is for you.
The Buxton is packed full of so much history and charm! My husband and I stayed overnight while in Granville for our niece's wedding, and wished we were able to stay longer. Our room was so clean and met all our needs. We thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful Sunday morning brunch too. I highly recommend the quiche! Service was excellent in all aspects. We give it 4.5 stars.
Very comfortable and cute room. Ground after beautiful and historic. Small tavern in the basement is fun.
Visited the hotel to consider having our wedding. Event coordinator was super nice and helpful. The buikding and grounds are very pretty. Tavern is really cool. They seemed unorganized but I think that is temporary as there's some staff changes.
awful experience, food was not done. could not finish.
Good was great. The host took time to show all the history and tell a few ghost stories
Great decor. Service was good, walked us to our room in another building on property. We had a private balcony. Enjoyed brunch at rhe restaurant after check out. The only complaint was the mattress was worn out and dipped significantly in the middle.
Good historic atmosphere. Food and service was adequate for the price point.
Great atmosphere and really good food during our breakfast with Santa.
Potato skins were great, steaks were small and similar to waffle house and service was not that great. Our first and last time, pretty cool history but definitely not fine dining or worth the price compared to other similarly priced places in the area.
Fantastic experience! Beautiful Inn with gorgeous rooms full of detail and amazing decor. The food is delicious and the staff is wonderful.
We were there for lunch on the day that they debuted their new menu, the menu was so new that they had just printed them off before bringing them to our table. The service was very nice and the chef
Excellent service and beautiful outdoor seating. Thanks for a wonderful evening with friends!
Nice atmosphere. Dining room tables small for a party of 4.
Great history. Go there only if you're a lover of historical hospitality.
I attended the Buxton for a work retreat. Myself and my two coworkers stayed overnight in the Warner house. It was a really interesting dynamic, but pretty comfortable and overall enjoyable. The meetings we had the first day were held in the cellar which ended up being rather cold and having electrical issues due to the space heaters we used. The second day we were in an upstairs room which was much more comfortable. We had dinner and lunch at the hotel and both were tasty. The staff was helpful and accommodating, though our lunch took a while to be brought out, even though we were the only ones there. Overall, the retreat went well and the hotel definitely played a part in that.
The room was perfect for 2 adults and one child having 2 full baths a king bed and another room with a queen bed. The grounds were gorgeous, I was in flower heaven, every where I could see were flowers and fountains. The breakfast was lovely as well, very unique experience.
Food was great service was great... still want to stay over night there
Nice place but damn everything is so damn expensive here. Do NOT eat there, too expensive. not much food. nothing special about the food either.
Food was delicious and the service was quick and friendly. I would recommend visiting or staying here while in town.
Nice place to eat. The atmosphere was good, service was superior, and the surroundings were pleasant. Of course, Granville is a nice, New England-college town look to it...nice to visit.
Food is ok. We go for the atmosphere and special occasions. The wait staff has always been very friendly but management seems to be disconnected and sometimes rude. We were recently told we couldn't have a table on a Thursday night because we didn't have a reservation. We have never needed a reservation before and there were 20 open tables. I asked a server directly to be seated and informed them it was our anniversary. She made the entire evening very special.
The location was very neat, and the staff was nice. But the only thing the inn has going for it is that it is supposedly haunted. The rooms were not good at all. The bathroom door in our room did not fully close, and The two entrances to the room were very difficult to close. For the complimentary breakfast, most of the mugs for coffee still had stuff in them from the previous time they were used. The plates didn't look any better. I don't recommend going here unless you are specifically looking for haunted places.
New year's Eve festivities were busy but the servers were great.
Staff was friendly. Sunday Brunch was great. Stayed overnight in "haunted" room #9. We found it peaceful and comfortable, though a couple strange things did occur. This room is in the main house so it's over 200 years old. Don't expect the same as a modern hotel! If you love history, old architecture, charm and character, then this place is GREAT!
A gem of a hotel in one of the more charming towns I have ever seen. If you have ever been to colonial Williamsburg and wished that you could have the same experience in a more authentic setting then this is your place. Tons of history and charm with an enthusiastic staff. Great stay, great value. I highly recommend it as a place with character that the big chains can't match.
Attended for a small, intimate wedding. The staff and service were fantastic, great for events 50 people and smaller.
