History meets hospitality at the Buxton Inn. The staff was friendly and considerate and entertained my many historically themed questions. The Tavern has a great atmosphere and served as a meeting place with local relatives. I'd recommend the restaurant too. With a new menu as of DEC 2014, I'll definitely be going back to enjoy the delicious food.
Beautiful room and wonderful staff! Couldn t ask for anything better! You definitely feel and live the history of this wonderful place! Will be back again!
Quaint historic Inn that just "fits" in Granville. Old, unique, quirky, kitchy and inviting. Hoping for ghost encounter but found some fun anyway. Definitely worth a visit.
Wonderful experience. Food was delicious and atmosphere outstanding.
Enjoyed a ladies luncheon at the Buxton Inn and Granville walkabout. Fabulous food and great suggestions and service.
I only went to have dinner but it was really great. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Plus the in house restaurant was fantastic. I will definitely be back :)
Super rude. The staff lied to me and my wife right in front of us. I hope they gain some professionalism, but until then no one from my company will be coming back.
This is actually second time staying here. Fantastic place I love the Inn. Clean rooms, good food, and great staff. Now food is costly there but it s good. I m a paranormal investigator so it was fun. Thanks for having us.
My room was comfortable and spacious. I was dismayed that no breakfast was available on my second morning there. The lobby staff, who were not available until after 8 am, told me breakfast was in the refrigerator in my room, but the refrigerator was empty. Their offer to provide some hot tea was less than enthusiastic. Since my room was in a separate building, investigating all this involved two or three walks outside in the rain. I would advise anyone staying and expecting breakfast to inquire the night before and make sure you understand the arrangements.
If you love history stay here. It's not the Hampton Inn so expect unique amenities. Very good food and a full bar.
Went there for brunch, service was decent but the food was very bland for $18 a person.
Had a great lunch in the garden room. I had the fish and chips was a large portion. Delicious. Others had the quiche and onion soup was fantastic. Great and attentive service. Will be back.
We went to the Buxton this evening to eat, We waited about 5 minutes for somebody to show up to seat us. The wait staff was good but seamed understaffed. We ordered 2 filet's and the prime rib. Filet's came out as ordered the Prime Rib came out like leather, dry and over cooked. It clearly wasn't freshly cooked. I then ordered the chicken cordon bleu which was very good. Desserts were also very good. I would recommend they take the Prime Rib off the menu unless they are going to cook fresh each day. There is no way the Prime was fresh. The color would be the same all the way through.
Nice hotel to stay at. It's very interesting to see mix of history and a lil touch of modern. The staff is very friendly. Our server at the restaurant was amazing. The grounds during the day are nice to walkthrough. A great place to stay if you're looking for something not a chain.
My wife and I stayed at the Buxton Inn this past weekend. We were looking forward to the quaint historic atmosphere. We were not impressed with how run down things seem to be. Our room was dirty when we arrived and the grounds were not well kept.
In our room, the water glasses that were for our use were dirty, there were clumps of hair on the bathroom floor and garbage in the trash can. The bathroom towel bar with was coming off the wall and when you turn on the sink, you get sprayed and the formica counter top begins to puddle. We decided to address it in the morning as it was late. When we went to bed we discovered the bed mattress had never been removed from it's plastic shipping bag. When we got in bed and moved in the slightest bit, it sounded like rolling on a potato chip bag.
The following morning we addressed our concerns about the room and gave specifics. When we returned that afternoon, room service had been by. The bed was haphazardly made and the plastic was still on the mattress. The coffee service had not been refreshed and the sink still leaked. I had to clean the clumps of hair from the bathroom floor that did not belong to us. There were 2 damp not matching towels on the falling down towel bar. We had dinner plans and there was nothing we could do.
When we checked out at 7 am, we woke the front desk attendant. She was clearly not in a condition to talk about our experience. I will be sending them a note in hopes that you do not have the same experience should you look forward to a beautiful stay in the beautiful historic town of Granville, Ohio.
Rooms were great. Food was awesome. Service was amazing as well.
Got a room last minute. The staff was so accommodating. Room was great. Very good food too.
Great place for a get away weekend, love the basement bar area
My family and I ate here for Easter dinner. Reservations were made and we were never told it was only a buffet for dinner prior to arrival. Upon arrival I was certainly skeptical based on looks (interior) . After being seated and told the buffet was our only option, we headed up the stairs towards it. I was standing in line waiting to approach the buffet and noticed kitchen staff drop the tongs on the floor for the salad. He handed it to the bar tender whom appeared to wash them off quickly and set them back out to be used. I can 1000% tell you they were NOT washed, rinsed, and sanitized. The 3 basic steps to cleaning dishes within an establishment of sorts....They were not followed. I reached my turn to grab a plate after seeing this happen. The plate had a thin layer of greese on it as well as leftover food particles. I've washed dishes in a restaurant before, so I understand it is truly hard work; but this is NOT an excuse. The buffet itself was a 5 out of 10. They had bacon sitting in an inch of its own greese. At first I thought it was water, but then I quickly saw it was pure greese. There was bacon, sausage, biscuits, and gravy right before the salad with the dropped tongs.... This was an Easter dinner.... I'm not saying all of the options were terrible, but I am saying I will NEVER recommend this establishment to ANYONE EVER. $400 for 9 people.... Not even including a tip. This was by far the most expensive disappointing meal I've ever had. Not pleased at all!!!
One of the most beautiful places to eat in Granville.
When we checked in, over a year into the pandemic, we were greeted by a maskless woman. We got all the way up to the desk and got a few sentences out before she put a mask on. She checked us in, walked us to our room, and gave us a bag of our requested breakfast items (prepacked items due to the pandemic). The bananas in the bag were inedible. They were mostly black. The apple, orange, and pre-packed items were all fine. The room itself was small but very nice. The chandelier and vintage furniture were really cool. The outside door, definitely original from the 1800s, didn't seem to be all that secure but there were no concerns about the neighborhood or other guests so it wasn't a big concern. Knowing things are weird because of the virus, I emailed a few days ahead of our stay to make sure we could still get takeout from the restaurant. I was assured we could, but when we came down to order something, we were told that wasn't going to be possible due to a wedding being held and the dining room being fully booked. After expressing disappointment that this is not what we were told, the guy (I think his name was Mark) checked with the kitchen and they said they could accommodate us. Mark was extremely helpful and apologetic and I appreciate his extra effort to help us. Our dinner was made in a reasonable amount of time given how busy they were, but the food was only so-so. Overall, the room was nice enough and Mark was great, but both the room and the dinner were not worth what we paid. It wasn't an awful experience, but between the maskless person, the bad bananas, the dinner confusion (which was resolved to my satisfaction by Mark) and the lackluster dinner itself, I doubt I would book here again unless I was attending an event on site.
Stayed one night in 'haunted' room 9. Didn't see any ghosts, but my stay was still very enjoyable. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. Secret paths, a basement tavern, a gorgeous greenhouse, lots to explore. Loved that I could leave my car and just walk , or take one of their bikes, into town. I would definitely stay again, and recommended to others.
The staff is very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The rooms, although historic, could use a bit of a refreshing. We stayed in room #7 in the main house, and it did not disappoint. I honestly didn't think we'd have any ghostly encounters because my husband and I never actually do. However, we didn't sleep a wink and it wasn't for good reasons. There is truly something going on. We asked to switch rooms the next morning because it was a little too "active" for us. We also enjoyed good drinks in the tavern and dinner at the restaurant. The icing was an impromptu tour we received by a friendly staff member. If you like ghosts and history, I recommend you check out the Buxton Inn.
We came in at 3:30 when restaurant was not serving. Tina our greater made a exception and we had tremendous meal. Tina was a exceptional waitress also.
Food is awesome! Chefs Dick Kelly & Laura are fabulous, as is all the staff. So glad the carpeting is being removed & the original hardwood floors restored. Ask to dine in the Blue Room, you won't be disappointed!
Brunch at the Buxton in Johnstown celebrating our Anniversary.
Won't stay here again. Booked a room in the "Inn", when we arrived got sent to another house two doors down. Was old, hadn't been renovated in decades. Several lights didn't work, TV had to be 20 years old. Porch and steps to house were literally crumbling away. Asked for wake up call but I fortunately had awoken earlier, then called the front desk 15 minutes after call was due to cancel and was greeted with, "We were going to call you next!" Swell. Continental breakfast was abysmal - concentrated juice, cold muffins from the grocery store, a big vat of flavored yogurt.
Can't wait for the Granville Inn to reopen. At least there'll be hope when visiting Denison.
The restaurant was disappointing. Our service was incredibly slow and quite inattentive. The food was flavorless and actually boring. The portions were ok, but the price is something a 4 or 5 star location should charge - not this restaurant. The bed was sagging in the center and was not conducive to a good night's sleep. And finally an open attic with a door up stairs slightly ajar....does not give you a feeling of Zen.
On a good note, the room was clean, and looked to be recently refurbished. The bathroom was nice and the staff were friendly of not necessarily helpful.
Beautiful inn but...we paid for a special dinner for New Years and incidentally our anniversary...because the football game was on, the dinner was rushed and the food quality was not what I have had there before. Be careful with special occasion dinners and make sure to not let anything cloud that...including an OSU football...and yes I am a fan.
Awesome facilities. Very well maintained historic buildings. Dinner was fantastic as well.
Great food! Love the atmosphere! Looking forward to coming back.
For history buffs, admirers of the old and unusual, and folks who have an interest in ghost stories and the paranormal.....then rooms 7 and 9 at the Buxton Inn are for you! (if you are not into these things...they do have other recently renovated rooms)
I stayed in room 9. The room is from another era....it's an aging beauty complete with antiques and transports one back in time. This is one of the most haunted places in the Inn and it didn't disappoint. Although no ghosts appeared, I did feel cold spots several places in the room that came suddenly and a I noticed a very strong floral smell that lingered briefly around 11 PM that dissipated soon after I smelled it. Late at night, I felt what seemed like a cat jumping on the bed ....although I couldn't see it I could feel it hop up and move around. Was I dreaming, was it in between sleep and wake...who knows..but it was an experience that was unusual.
The staff was WONDERFUL...especially Elizabeth who was working at the front desk the day I checked out. She gave me a tour of the Inn and show me significant places and stories of the Inn's past. I had lunch before I left.....I highly recommend the seafood Chesapeake.. an old fashioned seafood casserole.
To the owners of the INN: Thank you for keeping the Buxton Inn as historically accurate as possible. Make sure that rooms 7 and 9 remain as they are. Repair or restore but never renovate. Doing so would permanently damage the historical significance of the Inn and would likely drive away history buffs, admirers of the old and the unusual, and the curiosity seekers. I'm pretty sure that the spirits or energies that linger wouldn't like it either....and would perhaps stop hanging around as things would no longer be comfortable for them. I certainly wouldn't hang around either.....room 9 or bust!
I will be back for another 12 hour vacation ...hopefully sooner than later.
Thank you all for your hospitality, attention to detail, and overall professionalism.
It needs better signage but the drinks are good service was great. Parking is well lit and easy to get back on road.
Like going back in time great staff but didn't see a ghost oh cont breakfast great
Great cocktails, great staff, great food, great ghosts. always a fun place to stay/visit.
Called for reservations on October 10th for my parents 50th anniversary at the restaurants. The staff reconfirmed the reservations on the 12th. Then found out the night before the reservations that they were closed but received no call to let us know. I would of loved to visit but going to be hard pressed to give it another try. Thankfully my parents were understanding and we were able to make alternate arrangements.
Great historic place, friendly staff. Book your room NOW !!!
Terrible food. It was random what meal had a salad included. I ordered the duck and got two legs so overcooked they were inedible and a slightly edible, but tough breast. The vegetables that came with it looked like they'd been in the kitchen a couple weeks (and should have been composted) and were not steamed or cooked to any sort of edibility. The waitress said "she reported it to management" but no one seemed to care. My mother-in-law enjoyed her peach melba, but it was fifteen minutes between when she finished and we saw our waitress again (and my MIL is a slow eater so it had been a good ten minutes before that when she got the dessert). Terrible food, bad service, uncaring management, expensive prices - the only thing it has is a nice setting.
The best place to stay when you re visiting Granville Ohio
Beautiful, historic Inn. Wonderful service & delicious food.
Beautiful historical inn, with great food and service.
Annual destination for Haunted History buffs! Fine dining at an 1800's Inn. Particularly popular at Halloween as many of the Inn Rooms are purpotedly Haunted by friendly spirits of long gone owners and pets. Very pleasant upscale dining experience. Our recent visit on halloween for a family annual Birthday dinner was excellent. Several family members stayed the night in one of a previous Inn Keepers Haunted Bedrooms. Many famous Americans have visited here. Fascinating Historical Inn. This years visit was planned and Reservations had been made during our previous years visit
Wonderful experience! From the time I called to make a reservation, Mark took superb care of us, even checking out room 9 to make sure that was the room I wanted! Mark took several calls from me before our stay, answering question, top notch and professional!
We had dinner and drinks in the tavern, food was superb! Autumn was a excellent sever and bartender, we could not have gotten better service
Thankfully room #9 was just like I remembered and hadn't been changed, the air conditioning worked perfect, and the rooms were clean, I love the history of the buxton and enjoy staying there and taking a trip to yesteryear
The food has very much improved with the new own
ers, perfect@!
Be careful. I cancelled my reservation, but I was charged for it. I had proof on my cell phone of the call & a text telling my friend that the reservation was cancelled. It's not my fault the employee I spoke to did not properly cancel my reservation!!
Great food. The seafood Chesapeake is absolutely incredible. I highly recommend. Crab cakes were the best I've ever had, and I've traveled extensively.
Interior is perfect blend of historical beauty and modern convenience. The buffet was limited but literally everything was delicious and not typical buffet items. Great for mother's day
I couldn t find a hotel in the area other than the Buxton with a decent rate and open reservations due to a lot of travel coming into the area. I needed a room for about 3-4 weeks and they were able to fill me in. I was working in the area and it was only 4 minutes from job site, clean housekeeping, you could literally walk to any restaurant you ever could want and locals were very friendly. I ll be coming back if I m in the area. Love the history as well
What a disappointment on a special evening during the Granville Christmas Candlelight tour. I made reservations several weeks ago & checked their online menu before calling. We wanted surf & turf & french onion soup...served only a limited menu with nothing we wanted! We left without ordering & drove to TX Roadhouse for a magnificent meal. Steak & shrimp, onion appetizer, rolls for 1/2 the price & leftovers. They're off my list!
History alive! Such a fascinating place to eat dinner, have a few drinks, or stay the night. You can feel the ghosts in the walls. Love it.
The decor of the room was nice, but with no curtains the street lights just outside made for a restless sleep.
The continental breakfast was closed 1 hr early and when my wife asked for tea, they came back with a cup of it without having asked what kind she wanted.
The $38/person Sunday buffet was mediocre at best. I think they re charging folks for the ghost stories they tell about their inn.
Great food! The atmosphere is tremendous... There was a lot of talk of the ghosts of visitors past, but we didn't see any.
