Great beginner mountain. I would highly reccomend this mounting to people who are learning as the most difficult trail would not compre to other mountains. The longest lift allows you to access to the summit but will provide novice trails.

This weekend I participated in a ski weekend with a group of families who visited Ski Butternut. Unfortunately, of the 6 familes who were among our group, two families experienced incidents, at the hands of by both staff and guests of the lodge, that let us know that African-American families are not appreciated at this site. In the lodge, we were approached by a woman who demanded we move to make room for her children. She did not ask if they could sit with us, but rather, threatened that if we did not make room for her she would call the management. There were a number of other single individuals at large tables that she could have approached, but she targeted us to demand that we move. Management did not ask us what happened but insisted that we give her our seats. Mangement later apologized that they did not take the time to verify the facts of the situation, however, the fact that this happened at all, and that the guest felt entitled enough to demand the seats of other guests speaks to the environment we experienced. This is not to say that all the guests we encountered were as racist and entitled as this woman. In fact, there was another woman who observed the entire incident and spoke up on our behalf. In all, while we were able to enjoy a day of skiing with our children, it is a shame that this institution was not more proactive in a fair way to ensure that all of its patrons could enjoy their experience at Ski Butternut.

This ski area always has had good conditions because they make snow and groom it well. It is s small ski area, but even good skiers seem to be enjoying themselves when they re not skiing out west. The lift tickets are very fairly priced at $20 - $25 for adults and super adults on weekdays.

The location is very good, a few minutes from the highway. Price on weekdays is awesome. However, not the best place if you are a begginer. The learning area is small, and yot next step after that is crosstown and cruiser. Crosstown is reallly nice, but to get back to the base, you need to go through cruiser which doesn't really feel like a begginer green. So, if its your first or second time skiing, you will be stuck all day in the begginer slope... Also, although there are signs for "Slow Ski zone, go fast = loose your pass" in red piper, people go down flying by you... not very pleasant if If you are a begginer trying to zig zag your way down...

Overall, nice place with good price. Will probably go back when I'm not a beginner anymore.

Great little mountain. Lots of wide trails to learn. Cant beat the $25 lift tickets. They have a bunch of lifts, which although are very slow moving, make it so there are virtually no lines.

I went snow tubing last Saturday and had a great time. The snow is deep and the weather was great. The staff is super cool and music was playing and they were pushing us down the hill. The kids had a fantastic time and I would recommend this to all ages. The price point is really low and safety was on the top of the staff list. Great time can't wait to come back to ski!!!

Butternut was good. If you can't tell by its name, it's more of a skier destination but I snowboarded no problem. Trails are nicely groomed, though I went on the 2nd day it was open for the season, so it was very icy in spots. Would go back to check it out again when more trails are open.

Honestly for the price during the week $25, you are not going to find a better deal for what you get anywhere besides here! The mountain is not huge, but there are some trails that will give you a good ride. In comparison it's a tad bit smaller than Hunter Mountain, but much closer and way cheaper! I love this, i'm so happy I found this place!!!

I hadn't skied in decades, and was looking for a nice place on the way from NY to Boston to try again, with teen in tow who wanted to learn snowboarding. This ski area was still open, and got good reviews, so we tried it.

I have to say: this was a weekday morning -- I'm sure it would be much more crowded, and thus maybe a bit less pleasant, on a weekend.

Very nice! The snow (machine-made, I'm sure) was a little crusty due to the warm weather, but good enough for beginners. They have a nice bunny slope with a magic carpet AND a mini-chair lift for (re)learning. And everything is VERY organized and friendly. Group lessons 2 or 3 times a day. We got in on the morning one, and I ended up with a private lesson because there were so few people. 1 hour with Roger who was very patient and clear. Good $75 deal for group lesson + lift ticket + skis and boots rental. Helmet (definitely take one!) was a few bucks extra. As a kid I only got as far as snowplowing, but here, with a nice instructor, a short lift and slope, and 140 cm (short) skis, I was parallel turning already!

Then I asked the snowboard instructor to describe the easiest (blue) trail on the main hill, he did, and I took the real chairlift up, and skied down once. The last part -- "cruiser" was actually pretty steep, and very windy, but the control I learned in 1 hour of lessons was enough to get me down safely.

Meanwhile, my athletic teen, who had never skiied, was able to stay up on snowboard after an hour's lesson. That was also a group lesson that ended up being just 2 people.

Again, that was a weekday.

Oh -- and the old guy running the short hill chairlift -- also VERY helpful with newbies. My first time he even stopped the lift for a moment so I could learn to get on right the first time. And guided me a few times more until I got the hang of it.

All in all, while I doubt this hill is any challenge for experienced skiers, it's great for beginners of all ages.

In our experience Ski Butternut is a great place for families. The season passes are very affordable and the lift lines are rarely or of control. They generally have someone working at the main lift to ensure skiers in each line feeding the lift move asking equally. Occasionally some folks are not paying attention or are outright rude about the lines but most people we have encountered are polite and we haven't had issues.

Ski Butternut has a variety of slopes and most fall into the "green" and "blue" varieties. Most of the black diamond slopes are only that level for a short distance. Getting here early is ideal, which is typically the case. We went on December 22nd and I expected there to be a crowd but the parking lot to the lower lodge was only half full and the lot for the upper lodge was nearly vacant. They have added a drop - off/pick - up zone near the upper lodge which makes parking in the upper lot all the more convenient.

Arrive early and you get well groomed slopes and many runs before you are no longer skiing on ungroomed trails. Around 1pm or 2pm (depending on how much natural snow they have) the trails that get most use will have icy areas right where it is most inconvenient so like most smaller ski hills in the northeast, arrive early and leave around noon.

The trails are not lit so there is no night skiing and most days you will be packing it in by 3:30pm or 4pm.

A hint that I have given folks is to head directly to the upper parking lot / lodge, drop the gear off at the drop-off area, park and hit the slopes. The upper lodge will be less busy early in the morning and that will be the quickest path to hitting the slopes. From the upper lodge it is a bit of a push to get to the main lift but another lift that gets you to the top of trail named Main Street is right near the upper lodge and from there you can get to quads and triples.

One of the best ski places. It has several lifts to take you up, three different tracks to take you down and several places to relax and enjoy your time with your family. They also offer group and private classes which were great. Highly recommended!

I have to say I love Butternut! Spent most of last winter skiing here thanks to a very affordable seasons pass. The staff is friendly and the lift lines are almost always short. The terrain on the mountain is great for beginners and has enough diversity to keep more advanced skiers and snowboarders entertained for the day.

Myself and a group of friends just returned from a Sunday trip to ski butternut. Not only was this an amazing mountain for any level ski/snowboarder, but the staff was incredible. In days like today, if you loose a wallet or anything of value, it's very rare to find loyal people that will do the right thing and return the property. I lost my wallet somewhere at the resort and I went to the ski patrol office where my property was returned and given back with no hassle at all. Mark the ski patrol liaison was more than accommodating and Jennifer in the office was extremely friendly and helpful. It's people like those employees that give your resort a great name and a reason for me to keep coming back.

Excellent ski lessons for children and a friendly staff throughout the ski area. I would highly recommend Ski Butternut. The trails were well groomed and the lifts went quick. Our Boy Scout troop set up a grill on one of the decks and enjoyed lunch outside.

We are true beginners and had a great experience on our first time ski trip. All of the staff were friendly and patient. Our beginner group instructor Vernex was wonderful, then we also had a private instructor Steve who was very cool. Both were very patient and with great humor. Even though we were dumb and fell a number of times and even had to use our hands to stop, it was a happy experience because of the nice people!

Even as a native Floridian who has only seen snow one other time you can still come and have an amazing time! We had so much fun and kinda learned the beginning lessons of how to ski. Despite running over my hand (somehow) we had a blast!

Great terrain for a small mountain in southern New England. Conditions were good over Christmas break 100% of mountain was open with good coverage. Just like every mountain they are getting more expensive $70.00 for holiday day pass. Nice place without the far drive
