if I could give it zero stars i would. friend of mine was voluntarily checked in to the psych unit and now they keep telling him they will let him out tomorrow. Tomorrow has now been 4 days. how is this even legal? he checked himself in!?? Every time I call no one knows how to transfer me. even though it's the number THEY gave me for a direct line?! I've seen better care in my hometown of Marshalltown and that's saying something. Horrible.

That's what they did to my arm after poking me three times to get a blood draw. The lab called me today to say they didn't run the tests in time and need me to come back for another draw. Um, NO!

Update: I tried calling their patient advocate back. Left two messages and she never returned my call.

I had carpal tunnel done done a month ago and headed back today for the other hand. I had a great experience, from the nurses, aides, anesthesiologist to Dr. Neff. If I could have picked a grandpa I think it have been him. He is just the right amount grouchy, funny, and heartfelt man.

THERE WAS A TIME I WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN MY DOG TO THIS FACILITY.
HOWEVER, AS A NURSE, I HAVE WATCHED BROADLAWNS MAKE TREMENDOUS CHANGES IN PROVIDING HEALTH CARE. SO MUCH SO THAT I TAKE MY SON THERE, AND I WILL BE SEEING MY PAIN NURSE THERE. SHE HAS LEFT THE PRIVATE PRACTICE SHE WAS IN TO MOVE TO BROADLAWNS. REMEMBER, A GREAT DEAL OF THE CARE ONE RECEIVES FROM ANY MEDICAL CENTER IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE QUALITY OF THE NURSES PROVIDING THAT CARE.
THE BUCK STOPS WITH US. WE ARE ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF THE PATIENT.
BROADLAWNS REMAINS IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING THEIR LEVEL OF SERVICE. THIS TAKES TIME.
THERE IS ANOTHER HOSPITAL IN THE AREA THAT, IN MY EXPERIENCE, HAS THE POOREST QUALITY NURSING STAFF, THUS THEIR PATIENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS SUFFER FOR IT.

I have been going here for a couple years since they switched all iowa care insurance holders here.. This is the worst possible hospital to go to do everything you can to find a different doc some where else. I have had they were the cause of my second seizure.. Because the doctors couldn't schedule a endocrinology or neurology appointment until 3 months down the road.. I keep get switched to different doctors till finally I had my seizure thanks to them they admitted me even though they didn't have the equipment to treat me. Instead I could have went to Iowa City and been taken care of properly with being 70,000 in debt..

I tried to schedule a dental appointment last week and the receptionists were rather rude and told me they only accepted new patients on Mondays. Well, I called back MULTIPLE times on a Monday and they never picked up. I also left a voice message and they never responded. I don t want to wait another week to schedule an appointment. If I can t even get in the door I m scared what they would do to my teeth and to my health overall.

Went to broadlawns mental Heath center for my appointment was running late and I tried to call office first before we left and no one answered then when we got there the front office was extremely rude and told us to reschedule and actually come early to make appointment the lady really hurt my feelings. I understand that it was my fault I was late but I hope next time i get treated better. If not I'll find another doctor. For being a mental Heath center you would think they would consider being nicer to patients

Used to love this clinic! But it is getting worse by the day!! The demand that you be 15 mins early and then you have to wait a minimum of a half hour AFTER your appointment before you get seen. We have currently been setting here for an hour!! And his appointment was 40 mins ago!! Absolutely ridiculous!!

A horrible place to try and get care. Mental Healt...

A horrible place to try and get care. Mental Health facility is shiny and new but the doctors and nurses are not there to help with your health or take care of you or do what s best for each individual patient. Patients are labeled and grouped together. And doctors do not provide individualized care nor do they listen to a single word you say. A lot of over talking patients not providing what s best in the interests of each patients. Rude, uncaring, unfriendly. I was let go as a patient after 2 visits that did not go well, but I stuck it out and went to my scheduled appointments to get the care I believe I need and so as to not doctor shop only to end up being labeled just that. A decision made without all the facts, facts I ve openly provided twice and continue to try and provide while being talked over and told I d be hung up on. I haven t been rude or loud or disrespectful. Perhaps I have been too nice and too timid when trying to advocate for myself, because no one else will. Jill Houle you treated me very poorly, you re a manager and a nurse, how can you treat someone you ve never meat or talked to or even have all the correct information about so poorly?
Kelly Weiss-Kreps how can you be so judgmental, close-minded and ignorant? You re a provider yet because you weren t understanding something you made assumptions instead of asking clarifying questions. Bottom line, I came for care and left with more heartache and stress, feeling disgusted about how I ve been treated. What you ve done is wrong, in the eyes of humanity, the healthcare system and probably the legal system as well and definitely in the eyes of God. Shame on you Kelly Weiss-Kreps and shame on you Jill Houle, you re both disgusting people and providers.

I want to thank BMC for being there when I needed help. From mental health to every day aches and pains, your attention to the needs of patients is top notch. I specifically want to thank the Family Care Clinic, Dr. Christopher Matson and his team, they treat me as family and I always get very professional help. Dr. Matson really cares about his patients and his attention to the details and specifics is amazing. The Eye Clinic, The Foot and Ankle Clinic, The Neurology Clinic, the Orthopedic Clinic, the Sleep Apnea Clinic, the Emergency center, the Lab, and all of the support people and nurses in these clinics are all very caring and concerned about each patient. No, they are not perfect, but, they are close. Thank you for being there when I needed all of you.

I Hate it. have to wait hours for everything. Days to get much needed scribs even when you call in advance. I miss having real insurance. And I can't go days without my diabetes meds because I get very sick. Don't ask me why they don't just give me prema refills its not like I'm not a diabetic or anything lol. Its just one more way they can screw us poor people.

Sat and waited for hours with a very painful abscess. Went to ask how much longer the wait was and got told in a rude manner that I wouldn't be seen because nobody deals with dental issues, and was told to come to the urgent clinic the following day, which wouldn't have gotten me seen either.

This place wasted my time today. I wouldn't recommend going here.

I became a patient at Broadlawns on Hickman RD on ...

I became a patient at Broadlawns on Hickman RD on Jan of this year. In that time I have received subpar and unacceptable treatment from my therapist, psychiatrist, and even the women at the front check-in area. I will not be including doctors names in this post.

During my sessions with my therapist, I have had him nod off and fall asleep only to snap back awake and start chewing gum, I assume so that he could continue to stay awake.

This morning I had an appointment to see my Psychiatrist. After arriving before the doors opened and being the first/only person in line I was still made to wait to check-in, while the women at the front desk discussed the plans they had for the week. This is a common occurrence no matter what time of day. I have been standing waiting in line for a good 10 minutes just waiting to be called to the desk to check-in while they ignore the line and talk. They also have no welcoming tone or personality to them at all. I feel as though I am burdening them just by needing to check-in. This is unacceptable behavior and makes it very hard with someone dealing with mental illness to feel safe and want to come for help when treated this way.

After this dreadful but familiar check-in process, I was asked to take a seat and the nurse would be with me shortly. I was the only patient in the waiting room at the time because they had just opened. I waited for 15 min before the nurse came to get me and take my normal measurements and asked the standard mental health questions. The interaction with the nurse went fine and I was sent back out to have a seat in the waiting room. Once again I was the only patient in the waiting room. 20 more minutes go by and still no psychiatrist. My appointment was at 7 AM they ask us to be there 15 min early to check-in and make sure you're on time. I did my part I was there at 6:45am waited for the doors to open and checked in. 7:30am hit I had been checked in and did my part with the nurse and still no psychiatrist. I have had this exact experience every time I have gone in for an appointment whether it be for therapy or psych. The other times it was busy and I was more understanding but with me being the only person in the waiting room and having been there for 45 min I had enough. I walked out for the second time on Broadlawns due to the treatment and being forgotten in the waiting room.

This is unacceptable behavior for a mental health facility or any facility. I am concerned for the other patients that come in that has far worse mental health conditions then I do that can't help themselves or stand up for themselves. What kind of treatment are they receiving? Walking into your place of therapy should not cause this kind of distress. I walk out feeling worse than when I went in.

I took my husband the Broadlawns Medical Center orthopedics last week as we were referred by our doctor. What a joke. Checkin process was painless. Taken back and xrays done on his knees. Placed in a room and waited over 45 min to see the doctor. No weight, blood pressure or temp taken like most places. Doctor came in and asked if we had xrays and left the room to look at them. Nothing was entered by computer. Everything was written on paper. Ortho surgeon finally comes back and tells us my husband is in a bad place. Needs to loose 130 pounds and should have the sleeve sugery. Nothing addressed about the severe pain he is in and what can be done to alleviate it. Also he does not deal with diabetic patients. Dictated his notes in front of us and ordered and MRI. I was not impressed by the facility or the doctor. I do not feel my husband even got medical care. Needless to say we will not go back and I will not refer anyone to this facility.

I have been a patient of Dr. Michael McCubbin sin...

I have been a patient of Dr. Michael McCubbin since January 2012, that was before he moved his office from Pella to Broadlawns. I don't have anything bad to say about Dr. McCubbin, he is a great doctor. But I have had multiple issues with his nursing staff. Particularly his nurse Charity. She was very rude to me today on the phone and this is not the first time I've had a problem with Charity. She has made me go days without my medication when she has said she was going to take care of it but hadn't. My mother has even called and tried to get my appointments set up or medication issue figured out and has been treated like absolute crap. She hung up on my mother today and that was the last straw. I refuse to deal with a nurse that is allowed to treat patients like we don't matter.

My husband has went to the Family Clinic an seen Dr Mathes for several years an we have never had any complaints with her,her nurses or office receptionist, until this past week. I have never been treated so rudly as I was by the nurse Gina as well as the pharmacist on duty.I just made my 3rd trip this week to get my husband his medication an test supplies for his diabetes, the strip's as well as lancets were not ready even tho the nurse personally called to tell me they were. After leaving I called again to ask why I was told the were there when in fact they were not! Nurse Gina told me that she just (for the 4th time) called them in...After asking if she was sure they would be ready for pickup tomorrow an explaining to her that each time I am driving across town for nothing...She said "well that's what happens when you have Obama care! An she then hung up on me!!!! I am not sure who to log an official complaint with so thought I'd post it here. Thanks for reading an I hope your experience is better than mine.

I delivered a baby boy there 3 yrs ago. I was skeptical to deliver there as I had only used mercy and methodist birthing centers previous to this delivery. I was very impressed with my doctor and ALL of my nurses there, they were WAY nicer and had better service than mercy or methodist. They were all Very friendly, helpful and super courteous of ALL of my needs during my stay. The food was always good too. They even served a steak dinner for 2 and a birthday cake to celebrate the birth of my baby boy! The only reason I am considering not returning this delivery is the room style and size. I just wish the rooms were bigger with more updated decor. If they were updated I would undoubtedly be returning!

I do not write many reviews, but i had to share my experience with Dr Christy Benson, what an amazing woman, and what an amazing ophthalmologist she is. When i arrived in her office i had angle-closure glaucoma. She told me she was going to do cataract surgery (YIKES) on my eyes to fix them. It has taken me longer to write this review than it did for her to do my surgery. NO pain, she explained everything to me. My after care was amazing, she was always there to answer any questions. She never once just treated me like a patient, she treated me more like a friend. If you are looking for an amazing eye doctor, she is the one you want.

I do not recommend this place at all if you have mental health issues. The ER where I was first before going over to the crisis center (They didn t have any beds in their in-patient care unit) was absolutely wonderful, great staff loved them all. But once I got to the crisis center things went down hill. I finally was brave enough to ask for help and all they do is give you meds to make you feel numb. Not everyone is a pill popper. Thanks to you I don t know when I ll be brave enough to seek help.

I would give no stars. This is the second time Patty, the attending nurse you see to get vitals treated me terribly. And this time I was there advocating for a friend who was mentally unwell. Dr. Johnson is awful as well. Also the woman on the crisis team is mean and judgmental (brunette?). There is however an amazing doctor named Rebekah, Tim Tassler, and another nurse I really love because she has empathy for all patients I can't remember her name. The supervisor of the ER (not the charge nurse) was amazing when I spoke to her. By the way, the ER breaks hippa alot and will gossip about you, you can hear them outside of your room. I am only posting so no one thinks they are crazy when they get treated poorly by staff here. It's my favorite hospital but when I take friends or family there and see these people I request different ones. I am an advocate who works with homeless veterans, and this treatment from these people needs to be changed. Stay in the light and God is good!

I am very disappointed in Broadlawns an their policy regarding service animals. I brought in my service dog who is also trained as an e.s.a . Broadlawns staff told me to remove my dog for everyone s safety and that the only animal that I could bring in is a Pony. At first I thought they were kidding around but when I asked they confirmed they were dead serious. My dog is a chihuahua mix. She very quiet an calm, doesn t bite growl or bark and tended to my needs. She was wearing her blue an black service dog vest as well to inform everyone the reason for why she is here in the mental health department. It absolutely blows my mind how a company that is supposed to advocate for the health an well being of their patients, can t even uphold the requirements for that let alone the needs, regarding service animals for people like myself who have a disability. It s a shame to see such a heartless disgusting representation from Broadlawns. Honestly not worth coming here unless you got a horse

I went into the ER early this afternoon for pain management after an unexpected surgery yesterday. The surgeon and care providers I had yesterday were amazing, and I would highly recommend Broadlawns for that kind of care.

However, I do not feel like the physician I talked to today at the ER listened to my concerns or did an adequate job addressing my pain level. Normally, this would not be a big issue, but with the long weekend, I will have just enough medication to last me until Tuesday provided the dosage they prescribed is enough.

This hospital is the worst hospital to help mental health patients. The WORST! they have failed my daughter and her treatment. They just get rid of them and on to the next. All about money. With all the mental health issues out there You all really need to step up your game. And maybe actually care about what you do and why you do it. If you dont care then leave your job Cause it's not helping. I am do angry and disappointed in the care and the non help my daughter got. No help at all. And when you Express this, the answer you get is well it's not me the doctor asked me to call. Well have the doctor call me then. Geese.

Impressed with the prompt, professional, caring Broadlawns medical team! My daughter was seen for multiple seizures. We chose to come to Broadlawns as this is where her neurologist is. The staff with exception of front desk person were all exceptional. I was so impressed after being in many different hospitals that I inquired about other health services there. The facility was clean, staff were prompt responding with appropriate level of urgency for an Emergency Room. Most of all the doctors snd nurses caring for my daughter were very thoughtful and caring putting her at ease and helping her to be comfortable as possible given the circumstances. My daughter has a service dog and the doctors and nurses as well as other staff treated her just as well. So greatly appreciated. Front desk could use some training but overall, excellent experience. Thank you Browdlawns!!

I got referred to the Path program after my old Worker who went out of his way to help me. He saw me twice a week, every week. Now i'm in the Path program, It's not working at all, mainly because....

1.) they never answer the phone.
2.) They have so many clients assigned to a single provider that they only come see you once a month, for about half an hour.
3.) They don't really teach you anything, they just check on your goals, etc. Not much help.

I'm going to give this place 5 stars, and for great reasons. First of all, these people really go out of their way to make you feel better. Secondly, this is a hospital...and while it can be BUSY sometimes, I honestly don't believe that they deserve some of the negative reviews that people post on them, simply because they "had to wait forever". It takes time to produce medical results sometimes, and they DO understand that people have lives, which is why it takes time for them to produce accurate results in order for people to LIVE.

I am a frequent patient. These people treat my well being far better than the attitude I have received from other certain hospitals. Broadlawns has done me plenty of good in comparison. It really angers me when people post some negative reviews about stupid things from here. These doctors and staff only want to make sure you are going to be well.

Broadlawns is expanding in order to serve everyone better. They also have some great psychologists if you need someone to speak to.

Overall, except for occasional specialist Dr.s and staff the "Urgent"care is an all day event, so you better go early. Uncaring, Rude, Ill informed (though they have your COMPLETE medical record or access to with new digital equipment), Unprofessional treatment of patient. I personally have had a scheduled appointment that I waited multiple hours for and quite possibly cancelled without notice or rescheduling option. If able to reschedule had to wait months for new appointment. General practice is a joke. Being diabetic, when problems arise I still had to wait months for appt., leaving possibly of serious health issues, including death. Or told that if I needed immediate care to go to the "Urgent Care" clinic and that experience has already been described here. Often I would go there for one ailment and leave with several more from crowded wait areas. Have had these obstacles for over 35 years it all is very degrading and disrespectful. It seems like us/we (the patients) being in good health is not in their best interests. :-((

The are way under staffed and overfilled which isn t their fault but what is their fault is how they treat patients. You are lucky to spend maybe two minutes with the doctor who most of them are non sympathetic, not to mention you can wait to speak to a nurse for over an hour. Met with the social worker maybe once and when I kept asking to speak with her I was told she would come see me and never did.
