Overrated. I really don't understand the hype around BDI. IMO not worth the super long line up and less enjoyable near by hang out area.

Unfortunately the BDI is such a tradition that it's tough to give it a bad rating - even though the ice cream isn't that good and the chocolate dip is waxy. But the other toppings are great and all of their specialty "dishes" that I've tried were amazing.
Had a delicious marshmallow milkshake, was a bit too sweet for my taste however! Looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

An authentic Winnipeg experience. You choose your ice cream treat (and honestly there are so many options to choose from) and then, ice cream in hand, you walk across the walking bridge to the other side of the river. The houses on the other side are beautiful, and if you turn right at the end of the bridge a few houses down there's a tiny library on someone's front lawn. The idea here is that you bring a book from home to leave if you decide to take a book.
You go for the ice and stay for the walk. It's a package deal and the walk completes it
the ice cream is great. very creamy. usually a wait to order cuz the line is so long. but that tells you how good the ice cream is. by the river for a nice view. not as many seats as there were people there so might have to stand or eat in your car. worth it to come here for sure

BDI is great. Love the ice cream, especially the chocolate/vanilla twist. Cute spot, can be very busy and parking can be a chore. But it is worth it for the treat.
You have to wait 20 minutes to get your ice cream but it was good though.
Would have rated higher but waited in line for 45 min to find out it's cash Only! Need to post more signs for people!
It's okay. So many flavors to choose from. I have a sweet tooth but its too sweet for me. Probably the serving is big enough at least for the specials...

The ice cream is WONDERFUL at B.D.I.!!! I absolutely enjoy going to their location every so often and grabbing some ice cream! Their location near the bridge is a definite advantage. They serve very accurately, and often without issue. I have only had one incident, which took them 6 times to get correct, but as it was only an isolated event, that shouldn't be your only decision to come or not. Two improvements that I would suggest are to get rid of the bee problem, as there seems to be a larger than normal amount, and also get rid of some of the rust on the building. It has a degrading visual appeal. Overall, very good service from BDI! 26.5/30 based on my opinion!

It's always a busy place to just remember if your going when it's hot out during the weekend expect line ups. But even then the line goes by quick.

A Winnipeg institution. We like to bring our out of town guests here for an ice cream dinner and a stroll across the bridge and around the neighborhood. Cash only so come prepared to spend $6-7 per person. Less if you get simple ice cream cones.

I was very disappointed in my last visit to BDI.
I was so looking forward to a hot fudge sundae.
The ice cream was not as rich as I remembered (did you get a new supplier?).
The hot fudge tasted like hot fudge but had the consistency of chocolate syrup (very runny).
I remember the ice cream was very white in years past and on April 12, 2016 it was yellow.
Such a bad experience-not sure if I'll go back.

Have been going there for years. Today had the worst experience ever. Ordered The So Much S more and Biggie Smalls and they gave us The So Much S more in like 5 minutes but it took them almost 35 minutes for the Biggie Smalls. We were waiting for almost 10 minutes and they said it s gonna take 2 more minutes. We asked again after 5 minutes and they said 5 more minutes. When asked later, they said the chocolate was out of stock and they are making it with vanilla instead and that s gonna take 5 more minutes. My ice cream had already melted while waiting for my boyfriend s to arrive. They could have told us initially that the chocolate was out of stock and they would need more time to make it. Why tell 2 mins when they needed 30 mins to make it? They kept us waiting for almost 35 minutes which isn t acceptable for a ice cream.

The Salitzberg was awesome! Share it with someone, because the yummy vanilla ice cream is dipped in chocolate hard shell, drizzled with caramel sauce with a sea salt, all served in a waffle cone that has nutella swirled in it. Yum! Rich and creamy!
