I love Bob Carr! The seats can run small, but it s pretty inside. They have the original front wall inside which is pretty cool. We saw Yo Yo Ma here and that will be one of the best concerts I ever saw. I took a rock from outside and keep it in my classroom. It s my Yo Yo Rock.

Went there for a friend's performance and was delighted. Tastefully designed, the Nice atmosphere and great service make for an overall great experience.
The Bob Carr is an iconic part of what used to be the only place to see live shows and Broadway Musicals. I loved this place. The three stars is just because the facility is definitely in need of a remodel. They staff is great and the restrooms are clean. I would have given it 4 but the new Dr. Phillips Center exists. It is BEAUTIFUL and makes the Bob Carr feel like an outdated relic by comparison.
I have nothing but fond memories and great admiration for this facility. I am glad that the city decided to keep it for smaller acts.
A/C sucks. Needs an upgrade. Was sweating during the whole performance. Should have worn a bathing suit and not a pant suit. Seats are small and aisles have no space. Not enough bathrooms. Only 8 women's stalls for the whole theater. Bathrooms had no A/C only fans. Faucet sinks had hardly any water coming out to wash hands. Only 1 small bar area. Not much lobby space to chat with friends.
I know this is an old theater and has a historical background but it really needs to be torn down and built new like Dr Philips Performing Arts Center.
Field trip to see Doktor Kaboom. Show wasn't that informative and comedy level was poor. After the show all k-5 aged kids was ushered outside without bathroom break. When tried to reenter for kids to use the bathroom was denied. Very poor treatment to kids.
Went to see Eddie B. The show was great, the venue is old and outdated. Chairs are way too narrow and if you sit in the center of the aisle, make sure you go to the bathroom pre-show because you have to step on people to get out. Very narrow aisles.
Bob Carr has been a live entertainment venue in Orlando since the late 1920's, when it was known as the Orlando Municipal Auditorium.. It has been the site of many performances, from Elvis in the '50's to recent Orlando Philharmonic to Broadway shows...
Despite numerous renovations, it occasionally shows its age..there are no entry vestibules to main auditorium to allow late arrivers a way to enter the I performance hall without opening doors directly to the brightly lit & often noisy hallways...very distracting! And the seating is tightly packed, with long uninterrupted rows that make it very difficult to exit during performances if necessary.. You'll be very 'close' to those around you & even closer to those trying to pass while you're seated, often too close.. It gets a bit claustrophobic, IMHO.. And air quality is an issue that needs addressing.
The sound quality & stage lighting works well enough & overall the facility is attractive enough but it all needs updating...which I guess doesn't matter much given that in the near future, The Carr will become part of the Creative Village proposed for downtown Orlando when it will likely undergo another big makeover. While Carr Center lacks the style & flourish of typical historical preservation site's from the 1920's & has a contemporary design, & there has been talk of tear down/rebuild, the present mindset is that it is part of Orlando history that doesn't include The Mouse (aka Disney) & is worthy of preservation.. Plans for future uses are being made.
If there is a performance scheduled for Bob Carr that interests you, by all means go.. It is still a fine venue, it's just not as young & sexy as new Dr Phillips Center.. And tickets are probably not as expensive, either...
A variety of shows are performed here from local music to national tours. There are a few seats with less than ideal sight lines but overall a nice facility.
I've been attending the Bob Carr for many years, usually to enjoy concerts by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. It's easy to get to, even with all the construction. There's ample parking. The theater is old world charming, the seats are upholstered in burgundy velour and very comfortable. The main drawback is lack of a center aisle so you may have to gingerly step past many feet to get to a middle seat. Oh and the acoustics are wonderful. I cannot comment on the refreshments because I refuse to pay $5 or $6 dollars for a soda.
Went for Orlando Philharmonic tribute to Aretha Franklin on Saturday...great show and got to see my favorite Ushers from Dr Phillips... Shout out to Sherry and Barbara...Cya at David Foster..
First time in Bob Carr and it's nice, small looking from the outside but is larger than expected inside. Snack offerings are commendable with a vegan option. Great show tonight with Black Violin! I sat orchestra left, row B seat 7. Not a bad view at all. Ticket price was very reasonable.
I would definitely come back to this place, appreciated the smaller setting than coliseum-sized venues. I wouldn't exactly call this an intimate (implied small) setting. And the acoustics were very good. It didn't hurt that I enjoyed a world class act my first time there.
I sat up on the balcony to enjoy the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra while they played "The Final Frontier", an homage to the many science fiction movies of our time. Unfortunately, from the balcony, the power of the music was underwhelming and at a low volume. The orchestra was accompanied by a choir, who I could also barely hear over the other instruments being played It was also really hot during the entire performance, and I wasn't wearing any heavy clothing. When I asked about the air conditioning to one of the employees, he told me that "he knew it was hot, but today was a good day. It can get much worse in here." We're in Florida and the summer hasn't even begun yet. So I can only imagine how bad it can get. I'm not sure if these problems are only apparent for those who sit on the balcony, maybe the ground floor is much better. As much as I loved watching the orchestra anyway, the several limitations with this venue have made me reconsider visiting it again. I really do hope they fix the AC.
Excellent customer Service. When my tickets were improperly issued by an outside vendor Ticketmaster office at Bob Carr came through. A special thank you to the evening ticket staff especially Dani Boy for making everything come out to our satisfaction.
Nice and cozy, saw Irish Romance with Tri and Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Very nice. Quite a walk to our seats on far right facing stage from the handicap lot 5. It would have been better to have had orchestra left. Would go again.
I was able to park nearby and the staff was friendly. However, the theater was way too hot! I felt bad for Eddie B on stage. Not quite sure why a sold out show in the middle of June had no air flowing through. I toughed it out though to get a picture with Eddie B but I was drenched by the time I saw him.
This place cannot handle serving a full restaurant. Second time we had to want to over an hour for a pizza and wound up asking for the order to be switched to "Take Out". Won't be back.
A world-class venue. In the Orlando area culture lives here. Awesome acoustics. The only thing I would offer as a suggestion to enrich the experience of going there would be parking and their system for seating people. They make people stand outside in line needlessly for extended periods of time before they open the doors.
Navigating to the theater is easy. There is a parking garage directly adjacent to the theater making it easy to find parking for an event. Only two bars which made lines long but the bartenders kept their spirits high. Lots of staff stationed around the theater directing everyone to help find their seats. Nice auditorium but the seats are too small. I was squished next to the people next to me and eventually moved a few rows back to an open aisle to get air and not be so squished. The seating needs to be more accommodating.
Wish they put the air conditioning down lower than 78. We were all super hot. People are very nice and helpful. Would have given 5 stars for them, but seriously it is FL and 78 with a busy night?
Wow. First time I have been back since Dr Phillips Center opened and it underlined the massive difference. Bar lines were non moving, seating was cramped and people crawling through the row. Glad there is a choice. Wont be returning.
This theater has history and character. We have been here before and were assured that the roof has been repaired. However, when it rained, we had leaks over the stage area, which is not good during performance.
Since the same management company runs the Dr. Phillips Arts Performance Center as well, they are charging a lot for rent. There was very little communication between the various area of the house. At times it felt like the right hand did not know what the left hand was doing. Their workers in the orange vests followed instructions without using common sense. Our organizing team members were denied access to the front of the house to set up prior to the actual event. Every time anybody leaves the building and came back through the main entrance, you had to through security (empting your pockets, bag checks and metall dedector wand) even when you step out to pick up your ticket from the box office. Their staff told us the that is standard procedure for all entrances of the building, which is not true, because the stage entrance did not have any security checks with the exception of your badge. On the night of the main performance they did not have enough staff in the box office and the Will Call lines were very long. Many pre-printed complementary tickets were not found and it created a huge delay and long wait times.
Most of the hand soap dispensers in the dressing rooms were empty. We had to remind janitorial service to empty various trash cans in the less visited area of the building.
As a patron of an event, one might not noticed all these deficiencies, but being part of the organizing team, it is more than annoying, when they make promises that they cannot deliver.
They sell food & beverages before show time. The Center has Contemporary/Classical music playing to get you into a performance mood. It's great here. I feel like I'm back on Broadway.
