Always friendly and the vets are very knowledgeable and caring. Saved my boxer's life when correctly diagnosing a closed infected uterus...they told me to go to AVC for the surgery and called to get her in THAT DAY. It saved her life. Also, Dr. Sula actually made a house call to put my older boxer down, and 5 stars for compassion. It made a very difficult decision a little easier. No stress on my dog, and then they sent a contribution in my dog's name to the Maura Fund. Very caring vets and staff.

If I could give this place no stars I would! About...

If I could give this place no stars I would! About a month ago when I called around to different farm vets to make sure we had one set up for our pregnant Nigerian Dwarf Goat. (In case of any emergency) they told me they take goats and are there for any emergency. They proceeded to tell me about how the emergency situation works and to call if we run into any problems. Sounds good right?
Well last night our doe went into labor and the baby got stuck and no matter what, we couldn't get it back in to turn it or get it out. And our doe was starting to fade. I called the vet and laid out all that was happening and I got back "well first is she a regular patient here" I proceeded to explain that she wasn't (we do all care our selves) but wasn't told she needed to be when I called a month ago. For the uncompassionate person on the other line to say "we don't accept any patients after hours, even in emergencies" I proceeded to keep asking for them to reconsider and to please help her, I'd even drive her! And the person on the other end just kept saying "there is nothing we can do for you, you have to find someone else. This is after hours so we won't be accepting any new patients." After begging for them to take her, I finally realized I was getting no where and hung up to find another vet. Which they wouldn't even help me with, not even just a name or number. I called several emergency vets and both provided names and numbers. They were very helpful! After an hour we found a wonderful vet that helped our doe. The first baby died but she had 2 healthy girls and our doe was doing so much better!
I was unaware of Blackwater Vet policy because they never told me! I was up front about the fact that we do all care ourselves when I called them a month ago and they had no problem with it then! Then they were more than willing to let my doe die just to uphold a policy. I hope no one ever has to go through the scare we did. For a vet hospital who cares for many different kinds of animals, to not put an animals life first seems like one that shouldn't be in this business.

I recently adopted a dog and needed to get vet records sent over from Blackwater. Tammy made me feel very uncomfortable and uneasy about my dogs previous medical history, saying he was extremely aggressive and had an extensive bite history along with multiple other issues. I was confused because this did not sound anything like the sweet dog I had just adopted. Once I was able to see a new vet and go over his medical history sent over from Blackwater, there was absolutely no mention of the aggressive behavior, biting incidents or dog fights that Tammy had previously told me about. You would think that someone working so closely with animals would not try to scare a new dog owner from caring for an abused dog but that s exactly what she tried to do. Thankfully, I did not take her advise and saw a new vet who is happy to help me care for my rescue pup.

Blackwater Vet staff are professional, kind, and do the utmost to make our pets feel safe. I have one dog that hates going but our favorite vet and assistants are so gentle with her that when we're all done, the tail always wags.

All of the staff here are fantastic! I brought my pet rabbit here for a standard surgery and Dr. Mason was knowledgeable as well as attentive. He noticed a bump on my rabbit's chin which could be indicative of an illness which was completely unrelated to his surgery. Dr. Mason was able to send my rabbit and myself home with the medication he needed the same day (and all at a very affordable price!).

I am incredibly thankful for all of the staff at Blackwater Vet. Without them my rabbit's illness could have gone undetected which would have led to him being in bad shape. Instead, he is happy and recovering well, and I'm so glad that I brought him here as I truly believe that no one could have done a better job. I brought my pet in for a routine procedure and Dr. Mason and the other staff saved him from a serious illness!

I've moved a bit in my adult life, and I've had at least 7 different vets caring for various dogs and cats through the years. Without question, Blackwater Vet service is the the best overall practice I've ever used. All 4 vets, the vet techs, the reception team - they are fantastic! They are practical - they will discuss care options, RX options, and even offer behavioral advice. In addition, as a practice that also deals with large animal / farm practice, they offer home services even for small pets- dogs and cats. As my giant breed dog aged, getting him in the car was near impossible, and they came to the house for his care. And when he finally let me know it was time to say goodbye, on a sunday night, they had a vet on call that was able to get to my rural home, very quickly, to end his suffering. I could not recommend BVS more highly.

We brought a stray cat in to the vet because we had heard good things about Matt Mason and because my regular vet is about 45 minutes away from my house. We saw a different vet that works for him. The vet seemed nervous and did not listen with the stethoscope on one side of the cat. When she shaved her belly to see if she was spayed she shaved above the belly button instead of below. We asked to check for ear mites and they said nothing about it. They said wait ten days for quarantine then we will give her a rabies shot and do all the blood test. Which will cost more money for an office visit. I called my regular vet later that day. They said there was no need for quarantine and that they would see her as soon as possible. I took her in to my regular vet and within minutes my vet said she would like to check the cat for hyperthyroidism due to the increased heart rate and prominent thyroid. She also found ear mites. They did a blood test and she does have hyperthyroidism and needed a deep cleaning because of the ear mites. I don't know if it was just an off day for this vet but I was disappointed with the service. I did speak to the owner of blackwater Matt mason about these concerns and he defended his vets actions. Matt Mason was rude to us for having concerns about his practice. It seemed like all they are interested is money.

My wife has been going to Dr. Mason and the rest of the staff here with her pets since she was a child. I have been a devoted customer since the first time I went with her for a basic checkup of our cat. This office continues to impress me, so much so that even though we now live 90 minutes away, we still use them as our primary vet.

To the person who accused them of only caring about money, I find it hard to believe considering that they have never once tried to sell me something I didn't need and in fact both the doctors and their staff have gone out of their way to offer more effective and less expensive solutions for me on multiple occasions. This office cares so much about the animals they help and the people who loves those animals that I just don't know how they do it. No matter where I live, Backwater will always be my primary vet for the rest of my life.

About 15 years ago my cats leg was virtually hanging off. I was very upset on an early Sunday morning! I called several vets and Blackwater was the ONLY one to come in on their off-time and help my cat. They truly care about your animal! I have been with them since! I will always give them my service!

Have been using Blackwater for some time, first for horses, and they are great with them. Then for Dogs and Cats. They are always professional and friendly and helpful in diagnosing problems. Love that they are always on call, and will be there to help in emergencies nights or weekends. Knowing they are there 24/7 is the most important, they do not desert you!
