Outstanding place for a weekend getaway. How often can you have a whole castle to yourself? Sadly there's only one bedroom in the castle however there are plenty of bungalows in the courtyard that cater for the less lucky. I'm sure that it would make a fantastic wedding venue or a great location for an extended family get together. Breakfast was served freshly cooked in the conservatory along with fresh berries, yoghurts, cereal, pastries etc. The family who run the castle are lovely and can't do enough for you. John in particular was extremely helpful recommending local places to visit. He also does a full tour of the castle which is enthralling for those staying there.

Very Noisey rooms. Can hear every pin drop nextdoor. Breakfast a waste of time. And customer service non existent.

Amazing, quaint old English B&B come hotel tranquil location, accommodating of our young children and nothing too much trouble. Good hearty breakfast. Used manly for weddings it is truly a great venue even for non wedding events. Had a tour of the castle with John was fascinating the history of the place is really something with enough ancient weapons to start a decent medieval uprising . Grounds are lovely, tennis court, hot tub, a moat...top tip book two nights it's super value this close to Exeter. Thank again for a lovely stay.I

No one sleeps in the castle but in the lodge. All very cheap. The countryside is beautiful, and so is the small castle, but the place serves the mistress to make money with weddings. No thanks.

Very beautiful castle with a fantastic history, close to Exeter. We stayed at the hotel, the second time. It is very cheep with spacious rooms. Keep in minde it is a historic place with limited renovation possibilities which you will notice in the standard of the rooms. Breakfast was very nice and we were lucky with the weather. Servicing the rooms could be improved and you also must accept the fact that the walls are very thin and you live close to your neigbours with all the noise level it cause. The hospitality we have been surrounded by compensated this discomfort.

I performed two acoustic sets at this wedding venue last year. The room the ceremony was held in was lovely, and the gardens outside were a great spot for reception drinks. The staff were able to help me move my equipment from the first location to the second, and everything was run very efficiently. I've played at a lot of wedding venues and this gets my vote as one of the better ones!

At a university society end of year Ball. Had the best time, great value for money with plenty of surprises in the most beautiful location. Wonderful staff and lovely owner too. Book for your events and functions, absolutely amazing.

Room needed to be refurbished. We booked in for two days mini break. We left after the first night and found another hotel . The bed was so uncomfortable we both were in pain after spending the night. Bathroom had toilet roll holder broken More

This is a family run castle with no funding. This lovely family allowed us into their home at a very reasonable cost for our wedding and let us do as we wished to dress the venue to prepare it. We arrived on the Wednesday to prepare for the wedding on Saturday. It was a brilliant way of making our wedding feel so much longer than a day, we made sari silk bunting, decorated all the entertaining rooms with fresh garlands. The owners let us use their home and treat it as our own. We really couldn't have felt better about our choice of venue. For us it was homely. The beds were comfy and the linen all clean. We took all of our family and had an amazing time. Food was excellent! We didn't want to leave so stayed until Tuesday morning. The owners sat with us gave us lots of their time and made us peppermint tea while we tidied all our things away. We were even invited to have pimms, fizz and birthday cake with the owners and cousin John. Who was a gem! you don't get this kind of welcome at many places. Please come here and see for yourself. ;-) We will be back and have already arranged a trip in November. Thanks to all at Bickleigh Castle! For the best weekend of our lives! x

As a local wedding planner, I can highly recommend Bickleigh Castle. Sarah and her family are very passionate about their lovely home and so they should be! The setting is idyllic the Castle is like something out of a fairytale and the wedding team are fantastic. I love each opportunity I have to work along side them, thanks guys x

Beautiful place. Hosts very welcoming. Nice peaceful stay. Very comfy room. Lack of wifi was a shame but it's on the way as it's a big operation to install but wifi works fine in the guest lounge (see pic) which has sky hd on a bigger tv. Nice breakfast.

Stayed here with my wife for an evening , lovely room but the highlight was a free private tour of the castle by the owner .

Loved a walk around the grounds. We didnt get to go in but the scenery was worth the visit!

This is a four star setting with a fascinating historical story. Rooms are a bit shabby but they are in ancient thatched cottages so I can make allowances. Breakfast was appalling. Supermarket budget toast with jam and marmalade sachets, average coffee. A complete lack of consideration for paying clients.....what a pity....a bit of care and less cost cutting and it could have been lovely.

don't dare complain or be prepared to get a basil fawlty response like 'why are you nitpicking, why are you complaining'. Clearly the customer is not valued.

We fell in love with Bickleigh Castle the moment we saw it and couldn t imagine having our wedding anywhere else. Without exception, the staff worked tirelessly to ensure that everything went to plan. The whole weekend was the most amazing experience for both us and our guests. Attended a wedding. Stayed overnight. Fantastic location.

We loved touring Southern England, and this was one of the highlights. Owner gave us a tour. Very quiet retreat. Wish we'd stayed two nights.

Lovely location, good breakfast, bedroom not brill. Wifi only in a couple of rooms. Cold.

Lovely location it is like living in history. Very friendly really nice breakfast. The best feature is the castle and the location absolutely stunning a must for people who love history so much history in the castle and grounds

STAY AWAY, this place is open 'by appointment only', and only caters for weddings, etc
Considering the historic nature of the place, this is an abuse of ownership that is part of the nation's history, not meant for private enjoyment and profit.

Thank you to all at Bickleigh Castle, we had a wonderful weekend and everyone was exceptionally accommodating. A particular thanks to John and Matty, you made our special weekend better than we could have wished for.

Grass well moan but the gardens needed a lot of attention.

Our wedding band, The Shuffles Band, from Bristol were lucky enough to play for a wedding at Bickleigh Castle last weekend. As a wedding band we get to see a lot of wedding venues and Bickleigh Castle is up their amongst the best! The wedding Breakfast takes place in a separate room from where the dancing and party happens. This means your band or DJ can setup whilst you are eating without disturbing your meal.
The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The grounds were very well kept and the decor was clean and fresh. If you are looking to get married in a Devon castle Bickleigh Castle is a must see!

Thank you to Sarah, John and the team for helping my wife and I host a very special tenth wedding anniversary weekend at Bickleigh Castle.

We were looking for an elegant venue for our event, where we could have the flexibility of organising a fairly bespoke itinerary of fun and games for a group of forty friends and family. We probably couldn t have found anywhere more unique than Bickleigh Castle.

From the moment of the initial telephone conversations with the owner, Sarah, it was clear that this was going to be a charming and quirky weekend. Sarah was involved with every aspect of the event planning, and was exceptionally accommodating to the activities we wanted to build into our itinerary.

A particular highlight of the weekend was a treasure hunt of the castle and the grounds, organised by John. He s knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the castle s history, and by the last of his twelve cryptic clues, our guests (and us!) were running full pelt to make it to the final clue, and the buried treasure!

You can read as much from the multitude of other reviews online, but for my own personal take, Bickleigh is a charming and quirky venue in a lovely part of Devon. The grounds are immaculately kept, the castle cottages are in the main well presented, albeit one or two of the bedrooms and bathrooms could use an update if you're booking for a larger group and expect to be at capacity.

The facilities are well setup for a wedding or long weekend, with several event spaces, plus a croquet lawn, tennis courts, hot tub, a well stocked bar, and several add on options such as fireworks through the Castle's network of local suppliers. My advice would be to put yourself in Sarah's hands, and let her help you plan an elegant and special event.

Beautiful place, staff really helpful, just one point the place is not wheelchair friendly, not even the gardens

We recently visited the castle for a tour on the off chance with our 2 friends, and were made very welcome by Sarah and then given an excellent extensive, detailed and well informed private tour by Robert. Beautiful grounds and a gem to visit, well looked after. Thoroughly recommend.

After watching a tv show about the place it s not for me

Beautiful grounds, great hospitality and fantastic location. Some amazing walks and totally drowning in history, we loved it.

We stayed here for our friends wedding. It is a very special place indeed. Lovely rooms with loads of character.

Set in tranquil grounds, this castle is full of history.
We visited here with a view to booking it as a wedding venue next year and were extremely impressed with the place,facilities etc .
Marie, the wedding organiser was a lovely lady, very approachable and nothing was too much trouble.
All in all, I could recommend this place as a wedding venue and, although we didn't do the tour , I can imagine that would be well worth a visit.

Whilst staying their due to the fact I had a friend with me who was on oxygen and had chosen to stay there as one of the things to do whilst she can Sarah Hay did all she could to make her stay special and even invited us to her private quarters where we had a glass of prosecco

All I can say is, this place blow me away, would highly recommend, such a beautiful quiet place, great for couples and weddings, would not take children as there is only a tennis court to entertain in the evenings, will definitely be going back.
