I've never had a problem with any hotels I've ever stopped in coz im easily pleased but this place is terrible. The barman is very impolite, rude and passive aggressive. I've never been talked to like it in my life, He talks to you like your a piece of dirt. I will never come back again as he makes you feel so uncomfortable. We ordered starters and when half of them didn't get served, instead of apologising he argued with us trying to say we never even ordered anything. The next day he was shouting at us because we were taking to long to order food. 7 of us stayed here all week and we all felt very uncomfertable all week. Other then that the rooms dont have aircon and its hard to sleep coz its like a sauna.

Evening meal was good, complimentary . Breakfast offered a good choice with hot breakfast cooked to order, but poached eggs very undercooked.

3rd year in a row when the internet did not work very well had to connect via my mobile. The main problem this time is that I tried 3 rooms, 2 were cold and radiators were cold and could not be regulated, the 3rd room was too hot, but bizarrely this room also had a cold radiator but the heating had no way of regulating it and the heat seems to be provided just from the connection pipe between the rooms, the last room was on a different floor to the first 2 rooms tried.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for a weddin...

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for a wedding and from the online pics it looked like it had a nice size rooms, but sadly nothing like we got told. Our room was so hot that we had to request an electric fan as we couldn't fully open our window & radiator was broken so could not turn it down & it was on the highest setting! Also requested room with a safe due to needing safe keeping of medication, which we did not get & just to add things I had my meds stolen from room, which meant we had to leave earlier then we wanted to as need meds daily. Manager did not apologise, just said he would look in to it. The wedding reception itself was very well organised and had great food & drink. In the evening we had 2 incidents with table legs breaking & a candle holder (stainless steel) fell on a friends head & I had a glass vase smash on my feet. Again no apologies from staff, then us guests were the ones that cleaned the glass up. Swimming pool was half the sized from the pic u could see online. I'm afraid we will def not be using this hotel again when visiting out friends in Wales!!!!

A good 3 star. Building a bit dated and in need of redecorating. Staff very good. Good size portions of food at reasonable prices. Some rooms don't have fridge or phone. Good location for beach and sea. Clean.

Personally I love this hotel, the staff are very friendly and the rooms clean and well laid out. The location is amazing, fabulous beach and although not pretty the steel works are immense. There are two cafes/restaurants along the beach front which are well worth a visit. Cinema, swimming pool, long walks - lots to do or just relax and take in the views.

In arrival I thought I'd booked into a prison block. The exterior was grim and shabby and I feared the worst. All that changed the minute I walked through the door. The interior was completely the opposite, nice, bright and welcoming. I was checked in by the gorgeous Claire, and instantly made to feel welcome. Good was good and reasonably priced. Bonus was having a 40" HD TV in my room. Loses a star for the flakey WiFi which just seemed to randomly connect for about ten minutes every hour. Would stay again if in the area.

Place was clean enough and had a good amount of coffee, tea and busicuits. The besds however we found were a bit too soft and so struggled to sleep, though this is down to personal preference. Overall, a good experience.

Had one night in the hotel. Was tired, didn't want to make a fuss, however, the room was filthy. Accidentally dropped my phone under the desk, when I picked it up it was covered in all sorts of long hair. Disgusting. Bathroom looked like someone shaved a sheep in there and to top it there was fresh blood on my duvet cover. Don't believe me? Take a look at the picture. Terrible stay.

Actually a very good hotel and we thoroughly enjoy...

Actually a very good hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed staying here. I have to say we were quite worried by everything when we pulled up outside the hotel on Saturday 16th March (2013) - the hotel looked run down and the car park surface was rough and damaged. The lot of land next to the hotel is empty and full of rubble and the unit next to that is empty (was supposed to be a bowling alley). This is all set to change though with an olympic sized swimming pool on the way and there is a multi-screen cinema less than 5 minutes walk away (excellent, truly).
Looks aren't everything and that's certainly the case with this hotel - the rooms are clean and tidy; the hotel staff were all friendly and really helpful. The swimming pool was super and warm although there were no locks on the lockers. They always had towels available for the pool too. The breakfasts were huge and very tasty and the bar (staffed by the wonderful and charismatic Sam) is perfect in that it has pretty much all the drinks you'd want in a pub and real ale too. I was very happy.
Although not all the rooms can see it, there is an unspoiled huge beach right in front of the hotel - there are no arcades, no tat, no shabby seaside shops and the sea front is kept clean and tidy. The sunset is amazing. The area does need a decent coffee shop and restaurant and I'm sure they will sort that in time - the space is there for it. The hotel allows pets in too, which guests who had brought their dogs really appreciated (from what they were telling me). I think it's a great idea myself.

Very tired Hotel with broken front door so had to enter via the Ballroom - while carrying bags!! Staff very nice, helpful and polite as was the food and breakfast. The rooms are very tired and in need of a good cleaning especially the toilets that were a struggle to flush. The water pressure is near non existent and the shower was but a trickle. Some of the clientele were extremely boisterous and although this is not the hotel's fault the noise late at night could probably have been dealt with in a more robust fashion. The rooms were very hot which reasulted in a lack of sleep as well as the noise from the neighbours!! Definitely some areas for improvement..... and probably would avoid in the future.

This review is for the sunday lunch.
Delicious. We vouldnt fault it.
Will definately go back.
Compliments to the chef
Dont expect to use the Meerkat voucher code as its not accepted.
Weve been told today its only for the bar meals.
Weve used it on one occasion and phoned to confirm use before hand but apparently when a friend of mine rang today to confirm before booking for a family of 4 they have changed the policy and is only valid on bar meals.

Stayed for a long weekend here recently, on arrival the hotel looks like something out of chernobyl, run down and ghostly. Upon entering the building it was a lot nicer, although I could want for a better word. The check-in was done by a blonde lady who was polite and pleasant. We were on the top floor, the furthest room away from anything. Which sadly meant the wifi didn't work in the room. We also had our dog and our baby so it was a bit of a faff getting up and down. Sadly we couldn't change rooms as the hotel was fully booked. The room was very outdated, there was something sticky wiped on the curtains and the curtain panel was ripped and frayed. Old carpet which smelled strongly of dog urine in one corner. The bathroom was nice. The bed was comfortable enough but during the 4 day long stay the sheets didn't get changed at all. I would expect it to be done at least once in that time and for the amount of money paid.
The room over looked the council estate behind with the spar shop and takeaway shops rears below so we had prime viewings of their waste disposals and to listen to the hotel laundry carts being dragged on to the lorry and away at 3.15am.
Didn't use the pool as it looked run down and depressing.
The beach was amazing and probably the best thing about staying here, as well as the breakfast which was very good, plenty of choices. Parking was good, always had a space.
Would stay again to visit the beach. Cafe remos on the beach is fab too.

My son and I have stayed at this hidden gem on a hotel since he was 3. He is now nearly 9! We cannot fault it. The staff are always warm, friendly and very welcoming. Big Sam at the bar is a star and as my son has the same name have struck up a rapport. The pool, spa and sauna facilities are excellent. The bar meal was delicious. The fish I had was huge! We highly recommend this hotel. Sam and I will continue to frequent it every half term break. Well done Aberavon Beach hotel.

Had to ask 4 people for a coffee at breakfast.
The first person said someone will come to your table.... second said the same. Third said the same but I said I'd been told that twice & nobody came. She apologised and promised to bring some. Ten min later still no coffee. I asked a 4th who promised the coffee but by the time I finished my breakfast & had given up waiting still no coffee.
Very poor. Is it so hard to put a machine on the buffet!

Room was great, food was good, the only black mark was the organisation surrounded the work on the carpark. Finding a parking spot was tough on Thursday (when the work should have been completed)

Rooms were comfortable, though the sound proofing is below par. Staff were exceptionally helpful, even laying on an early breakfast for my colleague and I as we had to be up extra early. Reception was always staffed, Sam in the bar was entertaining. I'd stay there again happily.

We love this hotel, stay with Tesco vouchers, great staff, lovely room with sea views. Room has internet, great lighting for reading, very clean, all we needed. Also swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. Bar does some good value snacks and afternoon tea. Check in 1:30, check out 11:00, so great value stay

Reception staff were nice but everyone else were not. Room was dirty and dated. Breakfast was small and not good quality, waiting staff were rude. When we asked about cleaning the room we were basically told to deal with it. Location is great, next to the beach. Beach does not allow dogs most of the year. Carpark is free but not secure. Things were stolen while we were there.

Restaurant food was decent, bed was OK too.

Hotel looks tired on the outside, very tired. Lobby looks a lot better but everywhere else needs updating or just cleaning. I'd expect it to be cleaner considering the current situation.

I love this hotel. Looks awful from the outside but the inside is lovely. Rooms are very nice as is the bar area. You can eat in the bar or restaurant and the food is very good. We had our wedding reception in the smaller function room and it was lovely. The larger ballroom that is used for big functions is quite dated and could do worth a revamp but as a hotel and restaurant, it's lovely.
