Actually a very good hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed staying here. I have to say we were quite worried by everything when we pulled up outside the hotel on Saturday 16th March (2013) - the hotel looked run down and the car park surface was rough and damaged. The lot of land next to the hotel is empty and full of rubble and the unit next to that is empty (was supposed to be a bowling alley). This is all set to change though with an olympic sized swimming pool on the way and there is a multi-screen cinema less than 5 minutes walk away (excellent, truly).
Looks aren't everything and that's certainly the case with this hotel - the rooms are clean and tidy; the hotel staff were all friendly and really helpful. The swimming pool was super and warm although there were no locks on the lockers. They always had towels available for the pool too. The breakfasts were huge and very tasty and the bar (staffed by the wonderful and charismatic Sam) is perfect in that it has pretty much all the drinks you'd want in a pub and real ale too. I was very happy.
Although not all the rooms can see it, there is an unspoiled huge beach right in front of the hotel - there are no arcades, no tat, no shabby seaside shops and the sea front is kept clean and tidy. The sunset is amazing. The area does need a decent coffee shop and restaurant and I'm sure they will sort that in time - the space is there for it. The hotel allows pets in too, which guests who had brought their dogs really appreciated (from what they were telling me). I think it's a great idea myself.
