Bert's Bar Review

Food was good! Had fish and chips and the chips were homemade! Service was less than good!! It's not as if they were packed so we couldn't understand why she was so grumpy...No smiles, had to ask for a glass twice (she just wanted to take our order), and the only time she was pleasant was to give us the bill and let us know her shift was ending... We still tipped 20% (the person who brought our food and another round of drinks was awesome) but not a place I'm looking to visit again soon

This is a cool bar, often with live music. After a boat trip, you can end the day at Fish and Chips with a pitcher beer very nicely.

Beautiful day sitting on the deck. Food & service was great.

Been wanting to go since moving to the area. Enjoyed watching the sunset. Then we ordered fish and chips. I didn't care for the chips.but loved the fish. Had a nice time. Felt like a mini vacation.

Great little dinner dive with a priceless view. Prices aren't bad, and service was wonderful. We went for dinner on a Monday evening, and went back for lunch the next day

Yummmm, Tilapia dinner was very good. Nice and relaxed.

Pretty good food. The Philly cheese steak had what tasted like canned mushrooms in it that were undercooked. It's a shame, because the cheese steak would have otherwise been delicious. Great water view and great service

It was awesome. The food great. The bar tender Heather amazing service. The music amazing enjoyable. The admospher incredible friendly. We had a blast I highly recommend this place.

Great casual place to eat on the water where you can even dock your boat. Good variety of appetizers, meals, & drinks, & the prices are very reasonable. There is some outdoor seating along the water. Live performances by musicians even during the day & week. Last time my wife & I went, there was a man playing Pink Floyd among other songs on the steel drums. Parking is limited, though, and can be a challenge. But n nothing can be done due to the fact space is limited along the water right there. Cross traffic can be tricky, so you may want to back into the parking spaces that are straight off the main road. If possible, have a passenger double-check, quite literally, that "the coast is clear" as you pull out.

Waitress got our order wrong, and did not apologize or make attempt to make meal correct. Disappointing. One star due to inattentive service.

We got the Wednesday all you can eat deep fried shrimp for ~$16. It was served piping hot and was very good. We got a couple more baskets of shrimp until we couldn't eat any more. The accordion player was very talented and played a variety of music. Fun!

Good food, a little pricy, but if you can get a seat outside on the deck....what a beautiful view! Beer always ice cold and service pretty quick.

The coconut shrimp and the fish tacos are great. The location is also great.

Great service. Good music. I eat before I go into Matlacha's most famous dive bar. Food is acceptable, if uninspired.

The server had a bad attitude, and the price was outrageous. Over $21 for just a fried grouper sandwich with fries and no drink. The fries were terrible , and the grouper sandwich had a few bones in it. I can t believe this place is labeled as inexpensive. It s by far the most expensive grouper sandwich I ve ever had and didn t even taste good. They had decent tartar sauce and they re the only restaurant I could find open on the island during the pandemic so I won t give them a one star. They don t even deserve the three stars I m giving them.

Employees not wearing face masks. We won't return until they do. They also allowed a dog inside. I didn't know pets were allowed inside.

A slightly "crazy" location, which one would rather assume on the loose Keys. At sunset you can take great pictures here. Also great photos can be on the other side of the road in the direction of the bridge (left side when you come out) shoot.

Great place. I debated whether to give four or five stars, and settled on five because of how it stacks up as a dockside bar. It s not a restaurant, and shouldn t be judged as one. If you want cold beer, good food, a great view, and friendly attentive service, this place delivers. And, they are dog friendly (okay outside). Also, when I called to check on bringing our dog, and the hours for live music, the guy who answered the phone was pleasant, informative, and unhurried (Jason, I think).

My most favorite place in SW FL! Food is good, staff is always friendly. But the best part is the atmosphere of sitting outside on the deck right on the water of a fun, funky, historic place. Great place to unwind.

Bert's bar is the watering hole for the local folk of Matlache and Pine Island in Florida. This is a unique one of a kind water front bar and grill. During the summer, boats pull up to the dock for a drink and sandwich. The outside patio is perfect to watch the busy waterways of Matlache with all the passing boats. The lady and I got fish N' chips and a chicken sandwich. Both dishes were very good for bar food but nothing spectacular. They have a good beer and wine menu. I don't believe they serve hard alcohol. No complaints service. Yes this place doesn't put out 5 star dishes but if your a tourist looking for a quick drink and bite to eat, go check out this local watering hole.

Try the fish and chips accompanied by a coors light!!

Our group of 4 had an okay dinner. My wife got the recommended Grouper sandwich and did not like it... the fish.made the roll soggy, and my wife hates soggy bread. Me, the messier the merrier. We hung around after dinner for the live music, and unfortunately that's where things took a turn for the worse. The bar was full of hard-drinking folk who were not welcoming to tourists. My wife and sister-in-law did not feel comfortable there and wanted to leave. That was unfortunate, because the band was good, but we finished our after-dinner drinks and left.

4 years between visits.....same great atmosphere....great food..great service....great prices.

For the quick cooking, high in calories, delicious, cod, kibbeling, ambience very rustic, everything from plastic dishes and disposable cups.
Soft drinks, cola, is infused infinitely ..

Bert's is unique view on the water. A little pricey on food and beer.

If you want to set outside you can at Bert's. They had live island music. The grouper bites were very good. The service was excellent!

Ordered a frozen Margarita which tasted like a bad mix and could not taste any tequila. I was excited to see Triple Tail on the specials board menu. We both order it fried and it was barely edible. Did not taste fresh and the breading was bland and tasteless. The oil used was also not good. The french fries were similarly bad, mealy and did not taste fresh, probably due to the oil. Service was efficient but not inviting. Utensils and plates were plastic and foam, not environmentally friendly for a waterfront location. Overall not a good experience.

View is gorgeous and we saw a small pod of dolphins playing in the water near the dock. Waitress was very nice and helpful, food was good! Just be careful sitting outside as the overhang will drop water on you if it has rained recently... This was kind of frustrating as we tried to keep our food and drinks from getting water in them.

Need to rename it Jamaican Jack's, steel drum band and run down shack on the water feel. The best hamburgers!

We had a great time here enjoying the view and the food and the service. Set in a quaint little village, there is nice shopping there too.

Such a laid back place! Food was great and service was fast. We had a wonderful time and plan on visiting again (live in NFM)

Clam chowder was great. Fried oysters were average. Homemade chips were undercooked. Service was excellent. Beer was cold. View was spectacular.

The wings and ribs are fabulous! Highly recommend the food here! Decor is kind of shabby but food is well worth it. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Will definitely be returning!

I just kept wondering when the board of health would show up and close the place down. It seemed very seedy to me.

Sat outside on the deck. Turtle races were an interesting twist. The server couldn't have been an nicer very friendly in a genuine way. Food was good not fast but they were packed. Really appreciated that it wasnt a slightly different version of all other places. It was bikers meet polo shirts tourists and locals, all coming together in a good way. We had the fish special and it was good.

This is a nice hidden spot. Inside didn't smell too great, but the outside view is awesome. Nice staff, good food!

The beer is cold and the bartenders are attentive to your needs. Music is always good. Fresh fish and seafood on the menu.

Vermont gives Bert's two thumbs up! Awesome place to hang out and enjoy good food and scenery.

We ordered some chips and drinks and sat on the patio enjoying Skips amazing Steel Drum music. We make a trip each time to come here when we visit Southwest Florida every year.

Good docking. Fair food. Great service. Seriously needs cool misting or more shade for the outdoor seating. Maybe some oscillating fans.

Beautiful place to have a cold beverages and some seafood. Love getting our picture taken each year by the water under the surf board. Pelican watching is delightful. Love music is fun. Service is fast and friendly. Only beer and wine though.

The food but great love the shrimp and the fish all you can eat and I mean all you can eat great place also the great service you receive there I've never been disappointed in anything there great atmosphere
