The only Albanian airport for now. It is well maintained and pretty efficient in terms of security and passport checks. There are duty free shops that accept Lek/euro/dollars and a shop where one can buy typical albanian drinks/pastries and artisanal items which make good presents. Free WiFi as well. All boarding done on tarmac via bus transfer. Lots of charter flights during summer from across Europe, Russia and other regions.

First for the plus points - the building is modern, the business class lounge (also accessible via priority pass) is relaxing and comfortable, and the duty free is largely cheap compared to EU airports.

But these are outweighed by the many negatives - the systems don't support online checkin or electronic boarding passes, queues for security and especially passport control horrendous (at least on the Sunday evening I was travelling), and the airport lacks the equipment to allow planes to take off or land in fog. After battling to checkin and get airside, and then getting substantially delayed by fog, Tirana Airport dropped way down my list of places to visit again.

The airport has not any commodity! It does not offer on-line check in. There is not any wifi. The coffee will cost you a fortune, three time more expensive than the average. When you arrive a lot of taxi drivers will come to offer you their service, many of them are not taxi drivers just they have a normal car

If your is delayed, there is nothing to do, sparse seating, and a meager selection of . There are two cafes that only offer sandwiches and you must pay with Lek. If you pay with any other , there is no conversion and they hand back Lek. The Albanian staff appear disorganized and void of customer service.

Decent small airport and efficient.
However avoid buying any wine from the duty free. Purchased 2 different varieties of wine, turned out to be fake wine and they both had the same gone off taste. 20 euros each.

Also there are 2 small cafes in the airport. Prices are ridiculous compared to the prices in Albania. Also if you want to swap or cancel an order, forget about it. Staff are a bunch of hooligans.

Sandwiches and drinks are a joke. Don t get ripped off avoid the cafes.

Thanks

Very small but then very little volume of traffic .On landing huge line-ups for passport control, made to feel very uncomfortable by suspicious officer (unlike the lady counterpart at departure who was very nice ). Not much to do either before check-in or after .

I thought Tirana Airport was great. Its a bit small and tourists are continually figuring out the secret that Albania is an amazing destination. If many flights land at the same time you may have a bit of a wait for immigration but It wasnt too bad. We quickly found a bus outside to take us to city center then a bus on to Qeparo/Ksamil.
Would love for Albania to get a functioning railway to the southern part of the country.

The only thing that left unpleasant memories was the airport of Tirana. There is only a cache in stores, there are no change from large bills, there are no ATMs, the duty is empty. Sit dull ... a diabetic friend was shuffled for the water that he should have with him. In general, mde

The staff is all but polite and efficient! And another thing to keep in mind is that if you are travelling to Albania always use a suitcase that you wouldn't mind losing or breaking! Most of the cases the suitcase comes out destroyed and no one takes responsibility.

Very basic airport but does the job. I did not have any problems here. Bag drop was fast. Security screening was fine also. The place to wait after checking in has enough seats and a few places to purchase food and drinks but not a great range. There was free WiFi available here.

Arriving at the airport I check in (very nice and kind young lady) I wait for my flight and off, I did not find anything so strange. Modern and small airport, known of the complaints about the assortment of shops and some services, in the context of Albania there can be.

The check-in staff at Transavia in the airport had to verify the amount of kilograms of medical luggage. Apparently it wasn't clear in the computer system, even though we checked it three times on the phone with Transavia before we left. After that we had to come back and check in the luggage again.
On our flight back suddenly there was a problem for my friend who brought some extra lactose free milk, which was accounted for as medical luggage by Transavia through a doctor's statement. This statement was also in the airport computer system because there was no need to show the lady who calculate the luggage weight, because she could see this statement in the airport system as she said.
The customs said no liquids allowed.
My friend couldn't find the paper in her bag and the digital statement from the doctor couldn't load because the wifi wasn't working. They said which hospital did give you the statement? It's just milk not medicine, we will throw it away or you can ask for an assistant from Transavia, we are not transavia and we have our own rules. we said it is necessary for someone who can't drink normal milk. We said that we also brought this lactose free milk on our way here from holland and it was normal for the customs there. Their answer was:this is not Holland.
My friend had arranged everything but now...
We didn't have enough time to get someone to help us we would miss our flight. They just smashed our things in the garbish, She said to them, don't do this just give it to poor people.
So it seems there is NO communication between customs and flight companies, it must be in their system because there are also codes on the suitcases.

They could just look in the airport system and see that statement the same how the other employee did ...

One of the worst airports I have been to. After I landed in Tirana and went through customs, the police and staff are unbelievably arrogant and rude, and very aggressive in their communication...it s like its an airport from a third world country and not an EU candidate. Once you pass passport control (once they are done slamming your passport on the desk in front of your face) and asking you questions about yourself which they can easily find the information for in your passport, you are then presented with staff who put your baggage through a scanner and then start questioning how much money you have. Last time this happened to me, the airport staff member started shouting at other passengers (and myself included) and asking them how much money they have and making them open their bags to check...I have travelled to many airports around the world..including those from third world countries and this has never happened before. In conclusion, a very unpleasant environment with vile and revolting people who use whatever iota of power their police uniform gives to condescend and insult you. VILE!!!

It only gives 3 stars because of the beautiful views when landing on the surrounding mountains and the classic Saab 900 they still use at Tirana Airport. The airport is small, wifi is not working to check anything. Transport from the airport to the city center is quite expensive for such a poor country. The currency exchange office does not accept the Polish currency. At the entrance to the airport, after landing, the gate sprinkled us with some vinegar and we stinked later like pickles, as if to prevent coronavirus psychosis.

Small airport, enough parking space which is relatively cheap (2.5 EUR up to 4 hours). There's quite a bit of content to browse for such a small airport. Also the cafe oitside is nice and cheap.
Staff speaks English and is helpful. For extra charges make sure you have cash, but there are avaialbe ATMs in the airport.
If you are using Google maps to get there make sure you place a marker at the airport, because selecting the airport from the list and clicking on directions will get you to the opposite side ofbthe airport with no way in, you will need to double back at least 20km to get in.

Medium-sized international airport but suitable for summer passenger / air traffic, larger than the one in Florence, it hosts many airlines including Albawings and Air Albania that should start short flights, 28 check-in and numerous bars / cafes, WC, rental and rental cars and taxis, "rinas express" bus to the center of Tirana, and many other services easily accessible by everyone being a small airport but equipped with all the essential for passengers, unlike other large airports where it can be chaotic moving inside, there are 2/3 metal-detectors but they are enough and they move forward because they do not create queues as well as at the customs, where there are only 2/3 policemen but it flows very quickly, it's an airport with only 6 gates of boarding but it is not a problem because the flights depart at very convenient times and there are almost never 2 flights simultaneously for the same destination as happens at Fiumicino, also it is very fast the withdrawal of baga especially for small aircraft, despite the large number of airlines arriving in Tirana from half of Europe. Tirana is a very easy city to reach from all over Italy thanks to Alitalia / Albawings / Flyernest / Blue panorama flights, which start from dozens of Italian cities even in the low season, it is worth going there as Albania is a state among the most beautiful in the world, especially its beaches in the south that every year are crowded with tourists, and some are the most beautiful in the world comparable to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean.

Absolutely great airport.

Attention: Web check-in and mobile check-in is not available at Tirana Airport. Passengers must go to the check-in counter, which usually opens 120 minutes before scheduled departure.
There is a decent VIP lounge at the airside (after security and passport control), which accepts Star Alliance Gold cards.

Simple but very backward compared to others in the region. It doesn t have any jet bridges so every flight is boarded by bus in a free-for-all that means everyone gets the Ryanair treatment no matter if you re in a wheelchair, have children or traveling in business class. Airside shops are grossly overpriced and cash-only. Also, it doesn t have the technology for online checkin, putting it behind most comparable airports in Africa or India.

Of greater concern is that I witnessed a security breach in which three passengers took advantage of a distracted security employee to walk through the security check, carrying their bags and wearing jackets, unnoticed. I pointed this out to staff but they thought I was just arguing with them so I gave up. This would be grounds for an instant inspection failure by EU regulators.

Nice views from the apron, business lounge is surprisingly good compared to the rest of the airport.

Corntrary to a recent review, it is not less than 20m from the city centre, except maybe at midnight. More like 40m during the day.

Immigration and customs staff are aggressive and uninterested.

I have never experienced such a worsens service as...

I have never experienced such a worsens service as the one at this airport! It was early morning, 3:00-3:30 AM of January 20, 2020. The flight of 4:20am with Austria Airlines was cancelled because of weather conditions. This is ok, it happens, but what I do not really get is how do they rebooked my ticked, but not my son ticked. So, as from them, I should travel with Lufthansa at 10:00 am if that morning, but my son couldn t because he didn t figure in the list. Sorry, but looks ridiculous! . As a result, I had no choose but to cancel my ticked and look for an option where both of us could fly in the same plane (or planes - because our trip was to USA)
Second, when I was trying to get info about the new fly, the personnel at the call center, was so unprofessional. First she arranged the ticked only for my son, but not for me. I didn t know this, until the other person next to her let me know. I got shocked! I was ready to leave with only my son s ticket for the next day. When I said to her if you do not have options let me talk with someone else, she raised her voice saying more than one time, Are you threatening me? - go, your time is out, I have to take care for other passengers! My time was out?!
Maybe she was right because I was the second person on the line, waiting there until she finished arranging people she knew (taking money from them and putting in her pocket. Really, anyone can tell me what reason a call center personnel has to put in her pocket money from a passenger? Or, let me bring another situation that I noticed while I was on the line. Someone came and she, in a friendly smiley manner, said to him, oh, Here you are, but do you know that your flight is cancelled. SO, I figured out that the person did not know yet that he flight was cancelled. He came right 40 minutes before the flight to do his check in. Of course because he knew someone there who would take care for his ticked. Then she gave him the ticked by saying your flight is today at 10:00am. Literally, he was taking my ticked that I cancelled because I didn t have my son on the first list they rebooked).
ANOTHER thing, Believe it or no, she didn t print my ticked. I had only my son ticked in my hand. With that I was capable to check time and flight details online while waiting in the hotel. This was really rude! I don t know her name because she didn t have her badge on, but I hope her managers will figure out who was this person in that early foggy morning working at the call center in the Tirana Airport.
Lastly, I really did not want to write a bad review for my country airport, but things need to change. Without our reviews things are never gonna change in that country. Hope the manager s Team will count people s reviews and take action to improve their service. Thank you for patient to read this long review

Pitiful. We quarreled with ALL to take the plane back to Venice. They do not accept the report of loss of documents to return to Italy after they told us it was valid to return. They say they need a copy of their identity card and are unable to communicate with the Corfu airport from which we left. Incompetent. We called the Italian embassy in Tirana, the consulate in Vlora, the police station of Venice and finally they told us that it was really strange that they let us pass without the document issued by the embassy. I HAVE NO WORDS, indeed I told them all today. CRETIN.

Absolute joke of an airport. If you want to give a good lasting impression of a country don't have all the restaurants be cash only and display no prices. More than that, there are no cash points through security, so you are stuck. Makes your country look stupid, that's my lasting impression.

They have decent facilities, but the flights reporting is awful. You are basically in the dark with them.
Not to mention that they are super expensive . The departure tickets purchased from this Airport have a huge amount of taxes therefore making you think twice before using this airport.

A nice, modern airport with excellent reception facilities, the car rental offices are a little less comfortable, not all operators are inside the airport but located outside, not very comfortable when you need to travel with luggage and children.

Bunch of Albanian thiefs working for Alitalia overcharging for luggages and not providing any sort of papperwork/receipts. As it is not enough that Alitalia itself has a crappy service these thiefs are cherry on the top of the pile of dunk.
