Good way to keep the kids occupied for an afternoon. When you're at the bottom, near the play park and look up at the hills you can almost hear the Jurassic Park theme tune playing in your ears. But that's also part of the problem. -1 star for being on a hill. Also, pro tip: do not subject yourself to the cafe at the top

Enjoyed every minute of walking around the zoo on a lovely sunny day with my grandson
We visited the farm first and it was lovely to be able to pet some of the farm animals. Good idea to have a hand washing station for those who touch the animals. After that we stopped off at the park. It's a fantastic park for all ages and very safely laid out. On we went to see elephants, giraffes, genguins, lions etc etc. My favourite is walking through the bird house. Didn't see the sloth though.... He was asleep! On our way out we bought a soft toy bumble bee to promote the zoos "bee station"!

I went on a rainy day so i couldn't enjoy it much. A lot of animals were hiding and one of the restaurant was closed. But i got to see an elephant which is my favorite animal, a staring giraffe and a lion ready to pounce.

Great zoo, beautiful views and setting for the animals, lots to see, staff were lovely and very helpful, full marks for them, a credit to the facility. The toilets were not clean at all though

Good Zoo. Built on the side of a mountain so might be difficult for older people to get to the very top.
Belfast Zoo is one of the top fee-paying visitor attractions in Northern Ireland, receiving more than 300,000 visitors a year. Located in north Belfast, the zoo's 55-acre (22 ha) site is home to more than 1,200 animals and 140 species.
The majority of the animals in Belfast Zoo are in danger in their natural habitat. The zoo carries out important conservation work and takes part in over 90 European and international breeding programmes which help to ensure the survival of many species under threat.

OK, seemed like half the enclosures were empty, yes aware a few of the animals might have been out of sight but not that many! Very hilly and waste of time trekking to top to find nothing there. Easy to find, parking handy etc

The Zoo is not suited to those with mobility problems. Everything is on a steep hill climb, exhausting. The elephant encloser is extremely small for the size of the animal. The restaurant staff are clueless, lots of staff running around yet service was extremely slow. My children still enjoyed their day out, the zoo has a fantastic play area for the kids.

Small but nice and welcoming, very clean and staff were excellent really friendly also very helpful. The food was really nice in the cafe. But to be noted the zoo is built on the side of a mountain so very steep hill's but the kids really enjoyed it especially the brilliant playground. .

I went today with my grandson and his friend. I really found most of it very depressing as the animals looked bored and enclosures miserable. The elephants were standing swaying backwards and forwards and the lions small field was very muddy with sad looking lions . I felt like crying!! The zoo needs a massive overhaul NOW,!
I m sure everyone who works and cares for the animals does so with love but surely this is not in our modern age a suitable habitat for a lot of the animals ?
Sorry to be so negative .

Always enjoy a trip to Belfast Zoo.

Always enjoy a trip to Belfast Zoo.

The setting alone means the zoo almost disappeared into the forest it is set in, and the layout makes use of well laid out pathways to create more space than would be expected from looking at a plan.

As it is set on a sloping site, some of the pathways are steeper than normal, but the zoo provides some mobility assistance (subject I guess to Covid restrictions).

Currently operating a well laid out 1 way system to provide appropriate social distancing.

Belfast Zoo is built on a hillside... if you don't do hills then you won't appreciate this zoo. You can see something of the former pleasure gardens grandure in the now derelict Floral Hall. This art deco gem could be a fabulous asset to the zoo. The zoo itself fulfils a roll as both a breeding zoo and a home for retired zoo elephants... these old girls need a bit of tlc which they get. The staff are friendly and approachable and willing to share knowledge. It is by no means a safari park, so the animal enclosures are not massive. But it does mean you get to see the animals up close. You would need a minimum of 3 hours to see the zoo... I would allow more though.

The Zoo itself is falling apart a bit, but there are great animals there and you can book in to be able to feed and play with the penguins, make sure to pay attention to when you can book as it books up quickly every year! Best Birthday present ever!
