Belfast Zoo is built on a hillside... if you don't do hills then you won't appreciate this zoo. You can see something of the former pleasure gardens grandure in the now derelict Floral Hall. This art deco gem could be a fabulous asset to the zoo. The zoo itself fulfils a roll as both a breeding zoo and a home for retired zoo elephants... these old girls need a bit of tlc which they get. The staff are friendly and approachable and willing to share knowledge. It is by no means a safari park, so the animal enclosures are not massive. But it does mean you get to see the animals up close. You would need a minimum of 3 hours to see the zoo... I would allow more though.
