Well they have new digs since we visited 2 years ago. Otherwise, service is quite nice. But the food is unexciting for a 2 star. Just my opinion but we have been comparing to some 3* places in London and San Sebastian. It doesn't measure up.
I had a five-hundred dollar tasting menu with wine pairings, and I have absolutely zero regrets. I actually looked at my credit card statement and smiled thinking about the memory of this meal instead of cringing at the cost.
As you would expect from a 2-Michelin-star establishment, the food, service, and decor were all on point. I found the dishes to be above average even for this level, and would definitely go back to try a different tasting menu or maybe do a la carte
Where they really stood out though was their service and how they reacted to us.
My group is not stuffy, we were loud and boisterous. We started with a bottle of cava before the wine pairing, and finished with a bottle of our favorite from the tasting, so we were definitely not sober either, and they took it in stride, being just as playful with us as we were being with them.
I really appreciated that because so many Michelin restaurants can be stuffy and buttoned up, not their front of house, they were spectacular.
Belcanto is to go, sit and be served.Had on the menu two tasting menu suggestions but we decided (couple) by asking for the "a la carte" and wine in glasses. You can rely on the tips of the attendants. Starter ordered Lavagante and entree Robalo Belcanto and Piglet Revisited, Desserts, Tangerine and Chocolate, all steps interspersed by phenomenal surprises.
Michelin 2star.
2016 World Best restaurant 78 above.
Belcanto, by chef Avilez, is the only Portuguese restaurant on the list of the World's 50 Best Restaurants, from the British magazine Restaurant.
It also has two Michelin stars.
The menu is out of the ordinary and lives a lot from Chef Avillez's prodigious imagination. Where have you seen a lobster dish with two servings: first the lobster soup and then the cooked lobster? Or tangerine frozen in nitrogen?
I went there with my daughter and paid a bill at . But it was worth it because we tried most of the dishes on the menu.
It is one of those restaurants that you don't go to every day but you go to on special occasions.
There is no need to use superlatives so the experience has been fantastic. The restaurant whose small facade hides a real gems. Decoration refined and clear. Spacious space. It is necessary to choose the tasting menu it is a delight of the dishes which is linked all with the different taste but so delicious. You should also note a discreet and available staff that serves you in a delicate broom and unparalleled efficiency. A restaurant that must absolutely be done in Lisbon.
acoustically unkempt room, poorly prepared, poorly coordinated, overly boring, overly present ... poor entree, I mean Portuguese stew and a seafood entree called "surf". the first consists of two types of cabbage, two cubes of turnip and carrot cooked in the "dot" watered with a little broth, I can not find the creativity of this stew, the second has small strips of razor clams, clams .. seawater foam .. beautiful, good presentation but taste of the sea? none! .. good main courses: piglet and mullet..good dessert: tangerine. Very limited wine list..There is a lot of work to do at Belcanto.
Everything was wonderful! Professional and friendly service experts, excellent food and a pleasant atmosphere. We can warmly recommend the Lisbon menu! All around a nice evening in the 2 * restaurant in Lisbon.
Very well prepared dishes, although the composition of the dishes on the Caroussel menu was not the best. The table service was excellent, thanks Jose Ferreira for having put up with us.
Quality of wine glasses could be better to enhance the quality of the wine.
Although without the presence of Chef Avilez, in this menu price the least they could have done, it was the chef in charge of presenting himself at the table.
Concluding. Price pulled for a menu that was not even made by Chef Avilez, also considering the space a bit without charm.
Without a doubt one of the best gastronomic experiences I have ever had. After all this is a restaurant with two Michelin stars. Quality of food: excellent! Quality of service: excellent! Quality of the wines: excellent! Wow effect: maximum! An inevitable choice for a special day. I strongly recommend this one.
2nd time at Belcanto. Who likes an amazing and unique restaurant Belcanto is the special one.
One of our best 2-star experience ever. The chef's table is a great experience.
Interesting gastronomic journey.
To do absolutely if you can.
Very diverse and modern cuisine.
The chef is worth seeing.
Truly an amazing dining experience! The food was tasty, creative and playful. The experience was incredible with a wonderful sommelier and attentive staff.
Top end 2 michie experience in central Lisbon. The dining area is relatively formal but still has a relaxed feel helped by the friendly and welcoming service which didn t miss a beat. There s the main tasting menu (carousel menu) as well as a smaller tasting menu and a la carte. We opted for the carousel, and it didn t disappoint - the seafood dishes such as the horse mackerel dish, prawns in dashi, and the lobster dish were particular standouts but to be honest all plates were very tasty. Total cost c. 480 for two including 3 drinks total. If you re looking for the best fine dining in Lisbon this is it. 18/20
Remember to book in advance given the number of places is limited.
I like the perfect balance of the appetizing and sweet taste of food. I rarely drank Portuguese wine and the wine pairing was very interesting to me.
Lovely food and wine. Not cheap but is nicely different so worth a little extra!
Delivers a Mich Two quite well. Creative. Delicious. Worth it.
Very very good food and excellent waiters too. We had a great experience.
Very good food and experience, but I find it difficult to justify the price (hence the 4 stars instead of 5)
Incredible feast. Meticulous, creative presentations. As a food fan, one would wish to try everything on the menu. It is very expensive but worth this treat
An excellent restaurant with excellent service and excellent food. The price is a little high, but the quality is very good.
Good food very tasty and excellent service, but my girlfriend found a mosquito in the orange juice, for cleaning need to improve.
This is how to make fun and delicious food, the service is especially good, if you are in the restaurant of the formal environment then here is. If it is not that expensive, I will eat it every day. Also, they have a lot of vegetarian dishes, very interesting!
An excellent restaurant which really deserves to be in the 50 best of the world.
They offer both tasting menus as well as individual selections. The price was Euro 185 for the Evolution Tasting, which is a new menu, composed by 3 "tempos" (3 sections) that will last 2 to 2.5hs. The Classic tasting cost Euro 165 and had 8 dishes lasting 1.5hs. If you will prefer individual dishes it will cost around Euro 40 for a starter, 50 for the main dish and 20 for the dessert, totalling Euro 110. We chose the Classic tasting as its composed of all the Classic dishes and, really, who would come to a 50 best restaurant and not have a tasting menu?
Of all 8 dishes, for the 3 were a masterpiece: a cherry and nut gaspacho (cold soup served in a glass), the perfect egg with troufle oil and gold sheet (yes, a real gold sheet on top of the yolk), and the seabass (uau, what is this dish?? You can taste the sea in it!).
Overall, I left completelly satisfied, happy and missing already the menu. The service is very good as well, they even pointed me to a wine store that has the wine we drank and which we wanted to buy more.
Sophisticated and comfortable, the rest ... it's Michelin
Probably our favorite restaurant in Lisbon city. Luckily got a table without reservation. Friendly staffs.
Very well attended
Excellent dinner
But only for those who can spend a lot of money ...
I have been to around 10 Michelin-star restaurants in France, but I think Belcanto has been the best so far. The food was surprising, with a great effort on presentation, and of course delicious (we had the Carrossel menu with the wine pairing). The staff is great and the design of the room is very modern.
No reservations needed (or ever wanted). Skip this place, please save your money. All the travel books recommend eating at this exquisite Michelin 2-star restaurant. Unfortunately by the 4th course (what the servers referred to as a Chef s surprise), my friend and I were repulsed. I preferred to interrupt the meal, pay the tab, and leave. Instead, she convinced me to stuck it out until the main course was served, but then both agreed to leave before dessert and aperitifs were served. For example - In one bite, a plump cherry explodes in your mouth leaving an after taste of rancid ground beef. The next Chef s demise consists of preparing a smoked avocado paste served over a sea bass? I chewed on tenderloins for about three minutes a piece. Our concerned servers couldn t believe our distaste for their culinary bravado. I believe most diners are paid actors. To top it off, as we stepped outside of the restaurant on to the cobblestoned sidewalk to hail a cab, two (2) cute little rats scurried across our feet. Again, no reservations required - ever again.
Flew in dropped off the bags and went here for lunch, talk about a great way to start a 25 star Portugal/Spain trip. Great service and amazing food. Great wines and a beautiful setting, very highly recommended. Special thanks to the manager for getting us into Beco before it officially opened.
This is one of the best meals we have had anywhere in the world. The atmosphere, the service, the food were outstanding.
Everyone was friendly, inviting, knowledgeable and attentive.
We enjoyed dinner at the Chef s Table and Chef Davide and the entire staff were spectacular.
We have eaten all over the world at all types of restaurants and Chef Davide, the entire staff including the Viking Pastry Chef and our personal server made this a memorable and excellent experience We will return to Lisboa just to eat here again
We came here for my mum's birthday dinner and had the Lisbon menu. It was quite extraordinary. Especially the golden goose egg and the delicate suckling pig. For what it is, it's actually quite affordable and they also have a great list of Portguese wines.
If you want to treat yourself to something quite unique, go here.
Gourmet restaurant. Be prepared to pay a lot ( 125-145 for the tasting menu, per person), and to be surprised with delicious food you have never tasted before (see photos).
Appeal to the awakening of the senses! Allied poetry and art sitting at the table with us.
Elegance, friendliness and availability of the service. Excellent, thanks for the experience.
The best restaurant in the city today. Restaurant with two Michelin stars.
There are a variety of dishes and the support of the service team is great. (5 elements in room)
The quality of the food is good and has an excellent presentation.
The food is always accompanied by good wines that exist on the menu and with the support of sommelier.
Food is Micheline grade , young service staff lack of fine dinning experience , service is absolutely not Micheline . Food is innovative and local ingredients oriented .
Very very good food, the best thing is to go there.
Great place but obviously as a Michelin star resturant very pricey, but cheaper than the equivalent london
Very attentive staff and lovely food. Very fish orientated but that's to be expected for the location.
What can I say that hasn't been said. Michelein got it right. This place was spectacular.
Everything great, from the service and ambience, to each dish served.
Am not surprised that this restaurant received the recognition of 2 Michelin stars. Fantastic staff, delightful flavours and surprise after surprise! One of my favourite was the 'tuna rose' hidden within the bouquet of flowers. Even though it's truly world class dining, there was no pretense and the team were was superbly warm.
The first thing to highlight is the incredible human team that you meet. They are true professionals who enjoy what they do and are responsible for transmitting that satisfaction in each dish they present to you. The place is very pleasant, although it looks too formal ... but this is based on personal tastes, so there is nothing to be objected to as a negative. The standard of the kitchen is simply impressive. All are exquisite surprises, both for the taste and for the presentation and the quality that is evident in all the details that they offer you. We have tried several menus on different occasions, and absolutely recommended. A top-notch restaurant.
Definitely the best restaurant in Lisbon, unfortunately they don't have the Italian menu, perhaps a little expensive.
Great place, beautiful ambience n decor, delicious authentic Portuguese food. Staff n service at it's high. Overall experience excellent
Great. We taste the classic wine tasting. The wines, contrary to what is said, are excellent, however, the quantity is very small and the values are low. I don't think they serve wine anywhere near 40 euros a bottle, but the harmonization works very well. The wines are served in small portions. The food is also exceptional. The Portuguese stew is emotional and the pairing is spectacular. However, I felt that there was a lack of food. One criticism only: the BT egg was too soft, the yolk needed to be more consistent to eat with a fork, as the cutlery suggested, in fact, a failure. In addition, low cost benefit. I've been to several 1 stars that were cheaper and better. Account for 2 gave 500 euros, which I consider well above the average for what was delivered. Anyway, excellent gastronomic experience, however, of low cost benefit.
