They have a very wide selection of fish and equipment.
WOW!!!! what a store!!! Great selection of fish, tanks and supplies
Jeff and the crew are amazing. Got me a replacement for a leaking tank lightning fast...they saved the day!
By far the best fish place I ve been to in my area and I live in NJ! The ppl who are leaving bad reviews about the owner, staff or the the woman at the front door must have had fevers or something that day. It was my first time there today and got VIP treatment as if I was a 20 year customer. Best fish selection and prices by far as I ve been shopping around being I m just getting back into the hobby after a 15 year hiatus. They even rinsed out 80 lbs of gravel for me and the owner went over setting up my new canister filter. I won t spend money anywhere else. A+
Solid customer service, knowledgeable staff and owner. Coming here is a treat and a half. Not to mention my fish are happy I listen to these folks. :)
The fish here are gorgeous and the selection is amazing. I will be buying all my future fish from this store.
Went to go check this place out after a friend of mine recommended the place and it was well worth the drive. I was impressed by the large selection of both fresh and saltwater fish. Every tank just seemed packed, I had to walk around twice to take it all in. And when I was ready the owner himself helped me out. He went as far as catching a specific fish I wanted out of a batch, twice. Overall a great store
Love this place, a fish lover's dream store! Owner is very informative. My new favourite spot!
Most livestock prices not marked. Large assortment of fresh and saltwater fish. I wish the live corals had the prices marked. They need a coral frag tank to sell from. Rich is very patient and knowledgeable.
The owner guy is very rude. There is a lack of transparency with pricing. The salt water and RO water is extremely overpriced (almost double). Better off to go to pets place 2 in Nanuet.
The Best fish stores Ive ever been to There is so Many fish like Koi mollys plecos arowanas turtles clown fish i give it 5 stars
Large exotic fish selection. Helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Would give 5 stars, just didnt feel the love. Everyone was so busy and tense.
Otherwise, they have an amazing selection.
its a good place lota unique fish that r hard to find............make sure u got a sizable tank !
Very great service very knowledgeable owner always helps you out the best he can and always gives you the best deals he can give you
This fish store is by far the biggest and cleanest one I have been to. They have anything and everything you would need for you freshwater or saltwater aquarium. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable on what I needed. I would recommend this place to everyone and drive the 45 minutes everytime.
A huge selection of fish .
Not modern or fancy, but definitely a great place to buy fish for your aquarium.
Horrible customer service. Walked in and no one cared to greet anyone or ask if anyone needed assistance. The owner Craig also didn't bother to ask for help as he just walked passed us. The prices are ridiculous. Was sold a fish for twice as much as other aquariums. Never shopping there again!
Horrible service I watched them drop a fish on they floor there Parrots are kept horribly they cram fish Inot aquariums they horrible service the lady was rude.
Fantastic assortment of both fresh and saltwater fish. Every staff member was so knowledgeable and friendly.
This place is awesome, would highly recommend coming here. However I had a tang die from them, but it was most likely from an improper diet, from which the store buys their fish from. And no this is not bashing them at all, its apart of the aquarium hobby. I also bought an eel from them not to long ago, and is doing amazing. Definitely recommend buying saltwater fish from them.
This Aquarium company is by far one of the best places to consider if you are looking to add an aquarium to your home! Impeccable service! They were attentive from the minute I walked in showing me the amazing collection of water creatures they have. My grandson and I were so impressed we had to get our own custom tank. The service was quick, they were clean and super patient in explaining and giving instructions as I am new to aquariums. Thank you Beital and crew for adding beauty to my home and for such great service!!
Great selection of exotic fish and excellent service.
My children bought me 2 fish as a show of appreciation for the work that i recently did for them in their apt. They know i have been a loyal customer of Bartels Aquarium and over the years have spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars. The 2 fish did not do so well ,one died 2 days later the other lasted 4 days .Their return policy is very clear however my daughter figured since i am a loyal customer that Craig would do something for her. instead he referred to the store policy which i understand ,but i am not a one time customer or an novice in fish tank care. He ended up offering 1/2 price for a replacement albino shark and nothing for the 2nd fish. This is what he would have done for any customer off the street or his memorial day special. I can only say that the $70 my kids spent will end up costing you more because you lost a loyal customer and what i considered a friend. There are other stores that offer the same products and appreciate my business and loyalty. I guess the mighty dollar is worth more than past purchase or loyalty.
Thanks.
You mention not notifying you for a week which is true but under the present circumstances this was not my top priority. If you think the fish are alive and i am trying to get over on you your mistaken ,
Be Well and Stay Safe

I wasn't sure if I was in an aquarium (for looking at fish) it at an aquarium (for buying fish). It's massive.
Like they write about in books. They've got anything you could want.
Don't buy fish at Beitals. Every time i purchased fish, especially Discus, they don't last no more than a week and from my most recent experience, the employee was pulling out two dead fish to give me mine!
By far the best selection and quality out of any place I've been to in area . highest quality marine fish and freshwater and a nice selection of freshwater plants.
Great selection. Great prices and very nice people.
Great selection of fish, many exotics and rare monster fish. A great selection in supplies. Be aware, many fish have sunken bellies and other potential parasites. Dead fish in certain tanks where other fish are eating it. Some tanks are cloudy. Also some tanks have fish prices, most do not, so to get a price you need to speak to someone and they usually call the owner. Beware potential of different prices are possible.
A few months back I was looking for Ember Tetras to stock my newly cycled 29 gallon. I called in asking if they had some and the owner informs me there's no such thing, and that I'm probably thinking of EMPEROR Tetras. (They definitely do exist, I found some in 2 different stores a day later.) He told me to stop by and take a look at their selection so I did. Large selection, absolutely massive, but nothing I really was interested in. Ended up purchasing a betta with a unique spotted coloration. Now anyone that has experience with bettas knows that their temperament can vary. Some can get along with other tank mates and some just don't. This particular one happened to like killing my blue ramshorn snails. I decided to return it but the store wouldn't give me my money, looking at me like I'm crazy and spouting lines like, "Who returns a betta?" The owner offered me $8 store credit but I never went back to cash it in. Quite frankly he came across way too arrogant from the entire experience. No one can know everything when I comes to fish. I probably won't go back there period.
We just installed a custom tank built by Craig Beital. After months of searching for a master aquarium builder I found a retired builder who told me he can recommend Beitals Aquarium without reservation. We called set up appointment and saw the most outstanding Aquarium store and Mr. Beital with his associate Amanda helped us put together the plan for biggest custom turtle habitat we could bring into our sub level townhouse room requiring going down a narrow staircase, a hallway and a right turn. He set up the plan for custom cabinet, custom canopy, pumps, heaters, filters and lighting which provide basking and UV lighting for turtle health. Today this plan was finally completed with the delivery and installation. The team of 6 lead by Adam safely managed the tight entrances and stairs setting up everything in a professional manner. After installing Adam patiently explained and showed me how to operate and maintain the equipment. The electrical is neat and clean. The programmable lighting was explained and I can customize it to suit weekday and weekend schedules. I was encouraged to call anytime I had questions and assured they are here to stay and will be available to help anytime in the future. I will schedule in the future to learn a system for cleaning the gravel efficiently. A turtle habitat is considerably more complex than a fish aquarium. Craig's recommendations were on the mark. My turtles will be moving in this weekend.
I can recommend his service from planning to installation and maintenance if desired. The system is on just a few hours so the water is still a bit cloudy. I include pictures right after the installation. Maybe I'll add more pictures later when my four turtles move in. We are very happy with the high quality of the cabinet and canopy as well.
We needed a custom and unique setup and decided quality had to be a high priority. Not cheap but executed perfectly and high value. Will provide decades of turtle pet joy.
The reason for two stars, there is no prices posted for fish, they have to get a supervisor and they make up prices as they go , today maybe 20.00 go back a few days later and the same fish is 30.00
Been a customer for many years, Craig, the owner, is straightforward and deliberate.
He doesn't mince words , which is fine.
Bottom line ...he is fair and honest, if you communicate any legitimate concern, he will listen.
In my experience, he has always been informative and professional.
A business I will continue to support.
Today we were going to purchase fish and the lady manager was sooooo extremely rude and unattentive to us personally. The other to employees were not informative about the fish and mechandise within the store, one of them appeared to be simply goofing offf... My husband and I along with another shopper simply walked out without making a purchase based on the poor work ethics, rudeness, lack of knowledge of the fish and attitude of the staff!! They will NOT recieve any of our money and might I mention we had intentions on spending at least $300.00 on fish and supplies today.
UPDATE: WE WERE ABLE TO PURCHASE THE TIGER BARB FISH THAT WE WENT INTO BEITAL'S FOR, FOR A LOW PRICE $2.50 A PIECE FROM PETCO IN TETOBORO NJ....... AND NOT THE RIDICULOUS PRICE OF $15.00 FOR 1 JUVENILE TIGER BARB IN BEITAL'S. SHAME ON YOU BEITAL'S!
Great selection of fish. Amazing store. But the owner isn t the greatest man ever. Very rude and disgusting. Also isn t very bright told me a story of an employee he fired for stealing from him, went there not to long ago and that same employee is still there. Be careful if you have them servicing your house they got a clepto.
Great fish selections but the prices are different every time you go into the store. Being a young fish keeper and a customer for 6 years now it s pretty discouraging to pay $25+ on a 2 fish where I can get for $10 anywhere else. Sorry friend but Fish Hut is the place to go to. Honest guys and the price isn t pulled out of the air it s actually written on the tank. Educate your employees too so they don t have to send a picture of the fish every time to see how much it cost .
They make all your aquarium dreams come true! Excellent service
nice place awful owner. Couldn't even keep a conversation with him he was just screaming at his workers the whole time. All I wanted to know was if one fish was compatible with another and I couldn't even get a real answer just some bs and attitude. Better off going to fishtown
Pros: Really nice selection of fish(especially if you do saltwater or cichlids), big store so lots to explore. Nice variety of tanks, decor, driftwood, and substrate available.
Cons: Prices could be a little high on some fish, no photography allowed, and watch out for the blue macaw :p he's really friendly but screams to high heaven when you leave his area
Large selection of all species of tropical , cichlids and salt water fish ... supplies, corral lots of extras aquarium and ponds
Great And very helpful staff! Filled my 75 gallon tank with fish from there.
Incredible amount of freshwater fish.
I found exactly what I wanted.
Craig the owner was perfectly accommodating.
Will be returning.
A beautiful store, nearly any fish you could think of frashwater and saltwater, monster fish like koi, arowanas, and even sharks make it a truly breathtaking experience just to visit.
Large selection of tanks, stands and artificial decorations, a huge selection of different types of driftwood, knowledgeable staff, and otherwise just a really nice place.
Pictures are not permitted hence why I could not share any.
A bit to the pricier side though.
They also dont have any plants as of now, but they plan on getting them in the near future.
Craig is the best super knowledgeable very helpful even if you don t spend any money
First of all, I see some comments complaining about prices. But with this being a non-chain store it s hard to compete price wise, so I felt that the prices were a little high but nothing too unreasonable. Usually the knowledge and friendliness of staff makes up for the prices. I was very disappointed in that regard. I don t trust this place. Came in to look at some Axolotls, and I found two tanks: one with babies and one with what looked like sub-adults. Both tanks used small gravel as substrate. Witnessed one of the bigger axies eating stones. The babies all showed tail and gill damage, and so did some of the older ones. I was definitely concerned about health issues like impaction. The one tank was definitely too small for the number of older axies. The choice of substrate and keeping of so many axies still in their cannibalistic stage in the same tank made me too worried to purchase anything. Customer service also wasn t great, but we came in at the end of a shift so that s understandable. The birds were cute, though.
Very displeased as I drove an hour away from bloomfield to this location they were 6 employees and non of which knew prices of the fish I wanted and they seriously need to update their prices on the tanks as well their employees at the end of the day they were charging me prices on full grown fish and they were babies definitely do not recommend coming here.
Tanks are kept clean, nice selection of oddballs but not all prices are listed. Periodically updates on new stocklist either on their website or FB page would help especially for out of state customers.
Went there yesterday and spent 25 minutes looking at fish tanks and fish and no one asked me if I needed any help. I was the only customer in the store and 5 employees!! Well House of Fins in Greenwich CT. is much better. The got my sale!!
Live coral basically all looks dead or dying.
EDIT!!!!!! It is now 4 months later and all of the coral in the picture are either dead or no longer there and presumably dead. The entire live coral section should be called the "dead coral section". I have no idea what they are treating the system with but honestly bleach would have done less damage from the looks of things. Not one zoanthid in the entire store is even open which only proves my point. Craig was asked about the Scoly corals in the pictures and I was given a price to be sold to me.
To the person commenting on my review if it were true what you were saying why wouldn't there be a sign of some sort stating so. The arrogance in this store by the management is completely offputting. I have been in the fish hobby for roughly 15 years and have never seen such lack in knowledge about the livestock kept on premises. I truly dont understand how a place with a such a lack of customer service has stayed in business this long. The one truly knowledgeable staff member that was working there must no longer be working here.
To Beitals owners, please change everything about what you are doing in the aquarium business. I truly would enjoy frequenting your store if there were anything to purchase in the live coral section. Please stop what you are doing to the corals and completely redo the section. I do not appreciate being answered with lies about why everything looks dead. The corals in the posted pictures look vibrant to what it currently looks like and you couldnt give away corals to put in my system.
You state in many customer review comments that you pride yourselves on customer service. Well I truly feel sorry for you because your lack of professionalism is disgusting and very disrespectful. I look foward to reading what nonsense is spewed from you when commenting on my edit.
UPDATE:
I've removed my previous review because I heard from someone who recently visited this business. They said that Mr. Beital was very kind to them, even gave them a discount just because. The negative review I left was about two years ago, and I said I would remove it if things changed. Clearly, they did. Excellent work, Mr. Beital. You're a good guy.
Half of the aquariums in the store are dirty I seen a lot dead fish and the salt water section are full of aiptasia. I asked the owner a price on a few fish it seems like he makes it up as he goes and just to make sure I asked same the price on the same fish and he goes up $10 dollars and he s extremely rude guy I feel sorry for his workers. Not coming back!!! Save your money and go to absolutely fish in Clifton or The fish hut there right next to each other and the staff is friendly and very knowledgeable.
Great place to get fish! wide selection of Fresh and Saltwater fish. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because they gave me wrong information about what a certain fish eats and ended up dying 2 weeks later
Nice store. Owner doesn't know how to treat customers. Very rude and didn't take me seriously I don't know if that is Bc I am young but this man has zero respect for his customers and employees. I felt very bad for his workers. There are a lot better place close by such as Fishtown USA, pet place, tri state etc,
Place is horrible. Fish die. No guarantee . Better off going anyplace else
If you Love fish and want an exciting experience, this is the "Go To Destination". You can't imagine a nicer aquarium, folled with all thins aquatic. Something for everyone.
Thank you for having these aquariums. Me and my family saw one in Bergen Town Center and quickly got distracted by the beauty of these creatures. The aquarium looks very clean and well maintained. It was amazing to see these animals up close.
TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!! KEEP YOUR FAMILY AWAY!! I wish I could give a negative star! What a Waste of Time and Money! The owners should be sent to business school for ethnics! LIES LIES LIES AND MORE LIES!! Watch of for Beitals Aquarium they will scam you one way or another. I have given them endless changes and they disappoint every time!
Hige selection and available services. Owners a bit gruff but def helpful. The other staff is great and so very helpful
We had a problem with our pond and lost almost all of our fish. Craig worked with us to fix the problem and restock our Koi. The staff were empathetic and patient with us while we chose new fish. All the fish in store look happy and healthy, prices are reasonable and selection was nice. I left Beital's very happy and l look forward to visiting and buying more Koi in the future.
This aquarium is great. I had a load of problems with a tank I bought somewhere else Rich helped me through the process to the point I upgraded my tank and love having an aquarium myself. I was close to giving up but Rich really helped me out. I would recommend Beital's and Rich to anyone and everyone. He really know his stuff.
Was there today for the first time one of the best store I've been to and super nice owner ,good costumer service differently not my last visit
First of all I don't know who buys fish here as they are SIGNIFICANTLY overpriced. A huge selection of everything for your aquarium needs but again, really pricey. If you don't care about price, this is your place.
Me and the wife been driving down to this shop for years now from out of state 3 hours away and it s never a disappointment. There s always something on the got to buy list here.... freshwater or saltwater he s going to have it or can get you it I m sure. Prices are all fair to me as I know fish prices and how certain things/events can make them jump up or down from one shipment to the next. Never had a issue with the service here either... staff has always asked if I needed anything or had questions to let them know which is good cause I m not the kind of person wanting someone hovering over me as I shop lol. The owner I find is a nice guy and right to the point that doesn t beat around the bush. Forget to mention that I ve never lost a fish from them and all have been packed well for the long ride back which sometimes has ended up into a 7hour ride back due to traffic.... I also let them know where I m coming from so they can pack accordingly for me. All and all this is a great independent shop that shouldn t be compared to them waste of time chain stores.
Great selection, but good luck getting help if you are not a big buyer. They also carry no pond snails or low oxygen fish.
