Really great food. Atmosphere was tight but comfortable. Been here a few times. A bit pricy for lunch but the food is unlike anywhere else.
The Bread Company is a locally-owned business that besides the delicious entrees for breakfast, lunch & dinner, also makes an amazing assortment of European-quality breads. One of my favorite items in the menu is the one pictured in the photo: #14 Portobello with brie & raspberry aioli.
Looking for a nice place around campus for lunch, or a cozy place for dinner? This is the place for you. During lunchtime is very crowded, however it worth the long lines. Very good salad and sandwiches. They also make breakfast sandwichs, that is a good cheap and fast option.
My favorites are:
#19 CHICKEN GRILLED SANDWICHES
with brie, tomatoes, onions, pickles, and bacon chipotle aioli
STRAWBERRY SALAD
with walnuts & raspberry vinaigrette

Quite possibly my favorite place when visiting my Illini students. Charming setting, very nice service and delicious food.
The food is good. Only downside is the portion sizes and taste (somewhat) don't correlate well with how expensive this place is.
Such a cool atmosphere here. A quaint, Candlelit spot in campustown. Great place to eat if you're an artsy type of person. A lot of interesting, abstract art are hung everywhere. The food is always good when I go and service is great. Pizza, bruschetta, pasta, fresh bread and fondue. It fits a casual romantic dinner or a fun night out with friends.
The lunch is the best! I adore the atmosphere. The Bread Company just has its own unique atmosphere.
Good casual dining and somewhat cozy romantic atmosphere. Competitely priced and excellent food.
I eat here regularly and am a fan of their salads and breakfast egg sandwiches.
LOVE LOVE LOVE it here, the food is fantastic and the staff is great. One of my favorite places...
Well, what can I say about the Bread Company?
Well I would tell you through interpretive dance, but unfortunately that is not an option on google reviews. So words will have to do.
This place...has some high quality food, high quality staff and is very quick!
I've never had a bad meal there, whether it be lunch or dinner. Their specials are the real showstopper too. The picture I have included, is of a Lamb Sandwich (I call it a Lamb Sam). It was incredible and would be a fine choice for a last meal for a person on death row or something.
But other than that, there really isn't anything bad to say about this restaurant. The homemade bread is great, with plenty of varieties and sizes. The baked goods are amazing too. Cookies, chocolate croissants, sweet rolls, and plenty more. I want to try them all!
The staff is always super friendly and efficient!
So yeah If I could go get lunch there today I would!
First time. I enjoyed it.
Had a business meeting there.
Will return for some fresh bread!!!
A favorite spot for a dinner out. There is also an affordable a tasty selection of lunch options.
Enjoyable. We had a large group and ordered many appetizers and cheese fondue. Everything was delicious. The only negative was I prefer apples with my cheese fondue and they did not provide any. The chocolate was fine, nothing special. The seared tuna entree was amazing.
Overpriced but decent fondue, bread and wine choices. Sangria is good too.
This place is simply amazing. Their soup is wonderful as are the grilled sandwiches and for dinner the pizzas.
Best chicken sandwich I've had so far in my life + the raspberry portobello sandwich is also surprisingly good. Atmosphere is great
Been here for a few dinners - eccentric furnishings but excellent soups and sandwiches. But my favourite part is the daily bread - easily a dozen types each baked every morning. Definitely stop by and check it out.
Food is awesome. I ve tried their pancetta pasta and shrimp pesto pasta(?), and both of them are very tasty. Service is also very good.
They have awesome food and a great atmosphere. The chairs are a bit weird since none of them really match but I think that was cool. They had a fireplace that was lit and a candle at each table which added to the fancy atmosphere. The pizza here was really good and if you don't know what to get, go with that. All in all, great place with good food.
I love this restaurant. I've made trips to the area for 3 consecutive Summers now and the first order of business is always going to bread co for their portobello sandwich (with the Brie and rasberry sauce). Everything there is great, but this sandwich is incredible. I've tried to recreate it but nothing comes close to the original.
Literally one my favorite places to be... ever. The staff, food, and atmosphere are all so wonderful!
The best sandwiches in town. The service is fast and the atmosphere is unique. Definitely a gem in Urbana-Champaign area.
Strawberry salad and Costarica coffee are the best. They have other great choices too.
Awesome food, great ambiance, and friendly staff, all for the right price. I'd recommend to anyone
Love the Bread Company! Their Grab and Go Breakfast sandwiches are the best deal around ($3.50 for the amazing sandwich) and their fondue at dinner time is THE REASON to go. Plus, their freshly baked bread is very tasty, perfectly cooked, and reasonably priced.
A big resounding "meh". I ordered the grilled pear sandwich which had two end-slices of uncooked pear with some cheese.
Great bread, wonderful salads and soups, very good seared tun, and very generous pasta dinners that I can never finish,
the bread company has a very cozy atmosphere and the food is also pretty great!
The Zupfe (or Zopf) bread from here is to die for! I used to buy a loaf and just nibble on it throughout the day. If you haven t tried the plain or Nutella stuffed ones you haven t lived!
I'm conflicted on this one. The food quality is generally quite excellent, but their pricing is all over the place. For instance, no free refills on a tiny $2.50 mediocre pour over coffee? Weak. But their portobello mushroom sandwich always leaves me wanting more. Perhaps that's the fundamental issue: portions and cost do not pair well.
Outstanding food, service and environment! Artsy comfort food- that I will go out of my way for next time I am in town! Not to be missed!!!!
Great food and hip atmosphere. The sandwiches are delicious. Definitely try their Portabella sandwich.
It is open late and serves beer and wine as well!
For an American restaurant, it's not bad.
Taste the onion soup, you will not be disappointed !!!
Put salmon on top of the lemon greens salad. Thank me later.
Love Bread Co. $5 breakfast special is nice on the way to work. Lunches are great too. Nice location. Nice restaurant atmosphere.
Lunch is great, dinner is okay but overpriced. Great bread. Service is often lacking.
Really great cozy atmosphere for dinner (there's a fireplace!), food was good but but as "standard" as I expected going to a bread/pasta/pizza place. Portions weren't huge but the price was very reasonable. Would recommend!
Good pizza, garlic was crazy. Sat inside, pretty standard radio station, boring. Could have at least been playing the inception soundtrack. Drank water that was good too. Did not like the mushrooms but I don't usually.
Best bread in Urbana! Also a great place for lunch.
The only thing that came close to the deliciousness of this meal was the exemplary staff. It really feels like family when you're in here, with a very comforting candle lit ambience. Perfect spot in Urbana to take the family or a date, I highly recommend you give this place a shot!
Best food and service I have had in Urbanpaign. Lovely atmosphere in the evenings makes for a classy outing, great for dates.
Go to Bread & Company for lunch, dinner is a little pricey!
Filet Mignon, veggies, and crab cake salad was all great. There was a long delay due to a pre-Krannert 7:30 rush.
This place has gone through a lot of changes over the last couple of years, including changing managers, and some major menu changes. It was rough there for a while, but I think it's come out of the turbulence strongly. Though I think this place was classically known for their white-tablecloth dinners, they also have a fairly casual lunch. Though the lunch situation is more simple and quick, that doesn't mean the offerings aren't legit. You can get one of the many sandwiches on their bread off the regular menu, plus they always have lunch specials that vary from grilled sandwiches to pasta dishes and big salads. Plus it's comfy, with fireplaces and varied seating.
My favorite place in Urbana.
Always stop here on my way to Chicago.
Friendly stuff and great fresh food.
The casual bistro tucked away on Goodwin is a hidden gem. A great place for a date or grab something to go for lunch if you're busy. I definitely swing by once a week as I frequent the campus often for lunch. There lunch menu consists of sandwiches, hot and cold, salads and quick bites. As their dinner menu offers more upscale fare like pizzas, crab cakes and charcuterie cheese plates. I definitely recommend for a nice dinner date with wine and try the shared plates. I would recommend going early as they get busy on the weekends. Great for a meal if you're catching an event at The Krannert Center.
Never expected to visit such a nice restaurant in campus. Definitely better than most on Green street. Food was well cooked, great taste. Nice environment and services.
It's great to have this place so close to campus, varied menu and good selection of wines
Excellent cafe and bistro atmosphere. Nowhere else like it in the world.
New favorite restaurant in town! It's elegant while still feeling quaint and simple. The fondue and bread are delicious, and the goat cheese croquettes are phenomenal (coming from someone who doesn't usually like goat cheese). I can't wait to go back!
The food was good. But thinking of its price, not really recommended.
Amazing grilled sandwiches. Had pizza for the first time and the quality of the homemade bread comes through as well for pizza crust!
one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beer and wine, and brunch on sundays. Their breakfast sandwiches might be the best kept secret in Champaign-Urbana. Dinner is likewise phenomenal, with a specialty in pastas, pizzas, and fondue.
Excellent food, friendly staff. A unique, quiet, and romantic getaway compared to most campus restaurants.
This place is a treasure! We will definitely be back!
This place has a super cool ambience. The menu is small but values quality over quantity. We went Sunday morning and caught brunch. I got the two eggs with toast (only $5!!!) The eggs were cooked well but I wasn't a fan of the olive oil and scallions on top. The toast was excellent! I should have gotten a loaf to go. I would love to come back and get a drink (they had mimosas but with grapefruit juice instead) and more brunch.
Food was pretty good. Lunch prices are great but dinner prices are overpriced.
Yummy unique tasting pasta and good bread, although the bread isn't anything special for a place called "the bread co."
One of my favorite places in Urbana. The food is amazing. The lunch specials are great. Dinner is amazing, but a little pricey. A great place for a nice meal or a date. The inside is cozy (or tight depending on how you see things,) and very well lit. The food is always fresh and always high quality. Will keep going for a long time.
Great place to have lunch or diner!
The grilled sandwiches are very nice, and at night they have a nice "european" menu (it is a Swiss restaurant). The cheese fondue is nice (melted cheese with bread and potatoes), the pizzas are very good (thin crust). The Raclette comes without meat.
But we always have a good time there and the staff is very friendly !
A must go in the CU area!
HOLY MOLY. Here is a list of good things about the restaurant:
-The musical playlist was well suited to the ambiance of the restaurant.
-The lightbulbs were incandescent with extra long filaments and warm lighting.
-The chairs were all different, not just diverse, all completely different.
-The waitresses were all late twenties early thirties attractive but not too attractive women.
-The sign on the men's bathroom was "M" whereas the Women's bathroom said "Ladies".
-The floors were authentic hardwood with a dark stain.
-Lit candles on every table.
-The check came in a stainless steel cup. How unexpected is that?!
Cons: The clock in the main room didn't match the decor. Otherwise this restaurant had amazing ambiance.
This is a great European style lunch place with really delicious warm sandwiches. They have very good vegetarian sandwich options.
The ambiance is cozy and they provide outdoor seating which really amplifies the experience on a sunny day.
I have heard the place is quite amazing for romantic dinners.
My favorite restaurant in Urbana. The authentic Swiss cheese and bread are sure to draw your attention. The classic cheese fondue served with a side of bread and potatoes is great. Baked Goat Cheese Marinara is easily one of their top-notch dishes, especially if you are a fan of classic cheese and marina basil Neapolitan pizza flavors, however replace the mozzarella with freshly picked goat cheese here. Amongst vegetarian entrees, fettuccine alfredo and spaghetti in marinara sauce are a complete delight. DO NOT MISS THE DESSERTS! Their house special chocolate mousse is out of the world both in taste and presentation with just the right amount of sugar. If you're in Urbana, a must visit. With a cozy fireplace and overlooking windows, you feel like you are in a cafe at Switzerland.
