Polyhedron with 432 Symmetry:

Polyhedron with 432 Symmetry:
The polyhedron in the fountain is a snub cube, an Archimedean semi-regular solid derived from a cube, with all its edges of equal length. This shape was chosen for the central fountain in the Beckman Institute because it mimics the symmetry of the iron storage protein ferritin, which has 24 identical protein subunits arranged in 432 symmetry about a core of perhaps 4500 iron atoms in the form of a hydrated ferric hydroxyphosphate. The snub cube has 38 faces and 24 vertices, the vertices then representing the subunits of ferritin.

A jewel of a campus surrounded by residential buildings. Very walkable with good restaurants close by.

If visiting here, consider also a stop at the Huntington Library that is a short drive away.

Feynman exhibition installation had his notebooks delineating questions he asked. Ever curious and a man who could play bongos and made art of converting complex to simple understanding of physics.

He had the rare ability to inspire others and impart passion about physics ---even on his 100th birthday his legacy packed the Beckman auditorium and friends like Leonard Susskind (Stanford) spoke well of him.

Freeman Dyson had many intriguing stories about his personal interaction with Feynman (Feynman's family were in attendance and his competitive sister presented well). Do see the installation at Cal-Tech.

Beautiful building with lots of flowers and no people now. The building features some relation with biology like virus structure statue and DNA pond. The middle of the building is a good place to take a rest or study
