My experience with bbh is complicated.. I understand its a bit pricey, but I understand the reason because it's a upper class establishment All the staff were great and bartenders knew their stuff. performances were great; but there was an owner or part of the security team. That seems a bit racist. This man was an older gentleman who picked on the few black Patrons to make sure that they had an uncomfortable time in the establishment while making sure they felt unwelcomed.

Great spot in the heart of Harvard Square! Live music with no cover! Fabulous menu with fresh ingredients and a fun atmosphere. Suitable for families, couples and friends whether it be for a casual get together or a celebration. Friendly and professional staff with great table service. There are two bars and high top tables as well as a separate seating area. Go, listen to some great music and enjoy good healthy food. They also have excellent brunch and special events like Brunch with Santa! Make a reservation as they are very popular.

The good: The food was really quite good. I had the BBQ brisket special with rosemary potatoes and my husband had the lamb meatball flat bread. Cocktails were yummy. Service was pleasant.

The not so good: The atmosphere was much more casual than expected and advertised. I realized after the fact this was because all photos of the restaurant show white linens on the table, but when we went, all the tables were bare and it felt more like a casual BBQ joint than a jazz bar. It didn't help that we were surrounded by families with screaming babies, young children, and tourists in shorts. There's inherently nothing wrong with that, but definitely not the vibe you expect when you choose a jazz club restaurant for your anniversary dinner.

The food saved the experience, but then we headed over to Russell Tavern for an after dinner cocktail and the romantic vibe we were after.

Sat at the bar. Bartenders reletively unattentive. They never asked if we wanted to eat. We did order food. Didn't get silverware/napkins until after food arrived. Small outdoor patio...otherwise you're in a dark(ish) basement.

The current high Google review rating completely perplexes me. Extremely over priced food for the quality and quantity. The two of us had a single small octopus arm, four scallops, some hummus, and two beers for which we received a bill of over 80 dollars (including tip). Judging by the number of suits in the place, perhaps the regular clientele is not bothered by the pricing. On a positive note, the service was charming. But I'll be spending my money elsewhere in Harvard square in the future.

Great live music, fun crowd, great drinks. Always a good time.

One of few places in Boston that offer good quality live music, a fun and relax ambiance, and gathers an interesting crowd from all over Boston.

Their beer list is great, and the cocktails are good as well.

The guy at the door didn't want us inside, he asked my girlfriend to show the passport and only the passport in order to let us enter. She had her id, credit cards and lot of proofs that she's older than 21 (she's 31 actually). But no, only the passport. Unbelievably.

Cool spot with wine on tap! Food selection was diverse as it was both vegan and meat friendly.

I would definitely recommend the Buffalo cauliflower. At first it sounded weird but it is really really tasty.

What's better than a live music brunch to jazz up a sleepy Sunday? Extra points if it makes you feel super hip. Cue Beat Hotel.

Beat Hotel is not a hotel at all. I know. CRAZY, right? Misleading names are hip. As is the space. The funky interior decor of the large room features hemp. Hip hemp. The stage is on the far end of the restaurant, so from where we were sitting the music wasn't too loud and provided a nice backdrop to our conversation. If you're more into the jazz part of jazz brunch, try to sit closer to the stage because I kept forgetting about the performers.

The waitress arrives and says she's here to "guide us through our brunch experience." We're pumped. Every brunch should be an experience.

My buddies' bloody mary's are savory and spicey. They dig 'em. I order some tea, but for some reason the waitress brings a third bloody mary along with it. She's confused and asks if we want it.
"Well... I don't really need another one. Will it just be thrown in the trash if we don't take it?" asks my thirsty but broke friend ($10 for a b'mary - no matter how tasty - is no joke).
"Probably" is the only response my friend receives. We don't want to straight up ask our waitress if it would be free, but my friend assumes so and agrees to take it. I mean, we can drink it if we really have to.

And the food? Also hip. Classic brunch staples with a twist appear alongside more nontraditional offerings like bowls a la Life Alive in Central. I opt for the Inca bowl which features a nice mix of quinoa, avocado, greens, hominy, and other tasty morsels. You can pick your protein, and I opt for poached eggs. It's brunch, after all. The eggs were not runny at all, so I don't know what they think a poached egg is, but the mix of goodness was yummy, filling, and at least seemed healthy. A brunch slam dunk.

My other friend enjoyed her soy-based Earth bowl, and my more traditional brunch copatriot dug into her American breakfast featuring truffled scrambled eggs, bacon, and skinny frites that rivaled McD's in tastiness with far more class. Triple hip.

The check comes around, and y'all this place ain't exactly cheap. We're disappointed to see that that extra bloody mary was in fact charged. Not hip. We were deciding whether we should be annoying and ask about it, when a manager comes up to our table saying that she heard us say something was "obnoxious" and wanted to see if it was something to do with the restaurant. The walls have ears! Embarrassing. We then explain the bloody mary mishap, and she agrees that it shouldn't have been charged. It was so nice of them to go out of their way to make sure we were pleased with our experience (albeit a little creepy that they were listening to our conversations.. who knows what else they heard)!

A nontraditional, hip brunch experience is waiting for you at Beat Hotel. The mixture of delectable food, funky ambiance, and soothing live music makes me wish it actually were a hotel so I could stay longer.

We had our VentChat 2019 Brunch here. The space was perfect for our group of 30. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Location is great, food was outstanding. Highly recommend stopping in!
