Bear Mountain Ski Area Review

Despite it being the last weekend for snow activities it was still a great experience. Not too crowded and the things were still in good condition.

Easy parking and transportation to the main lodge. Ample tables for seating outdoors with bars and grills. Plenty of snow for a wide variety of runs.

The ski resort is amazing but the cafeteria crew specially the salad section was pretty bad in customer service

Snowboarding in California is awesome. Just think about it you're practically in a desert most of the day and you decide hrm I wanna do some snowboarding. Of the Socal resorts Bear mountain is definitely the best with the nicest runs and conditions. Bear is a predominantly park mountain with features littered throughout the runs, which is nice if you're good at riding park but not as great if you prefer to carve and just ride. There is one run from top to bottom that is a intermediate but swerve off path and you'll find yourself hitting diamonds. Overall one of the best spots to board and great for day tripping or overnights.

Decent food, a little pricey but it's a resort so that is expected. The only part I didn't like was that they have the bunny hills closed off to the public, you can only go in if you pay for lessons. My husband was teaching me so it would have been nice to have a designated area to practice instead of just squeezing in at the bottom and walking uphill, no magic carpet.

The pass is very expensive considering there is only a limited number of runs.

The employees here are so incredibly rude in every department! From the employees handling the parking to the managers inside handling tickets. Thry are so impatient and just rude and they lack customer service skills completely. I have two very small kids and we paid for a premier parking ticket just to have to park a mile down the mountain because "the parking lot is closed." When asked where to park, if the guy could have got off his phone to point us in the right direction, that would have been nice. Instead he became annoyed and snappy and said "it is what it is".

Crowded... Limited capacity... Staff in need of lessons in customer service... And prices that continue to rise well above the value offered.

Still one of the best snow board park in California. Good beginner, intermediate, and export terrain. There are 2 mid mountain lifts not crowded that go to the top. Holiday weekends are insanely crowded on the roads.

For a quick day on the slopes bear mountain is the best choice. Ever since mammoth bought the place the prices have gone through the roof.

Great mountain, close to Los Angeles for quick and easy get aways! Be sure to check road conditions before coming though, sometimes the roads can be very icy!

It is very comfortable and has all the qualities a home has. It is the best place to go and relax in big Bear with the comfort of home

This place is magical! It's only a couple hours from LA and it's the perfect getaway. You can come up for the day or spend a weekend and get a couple good days of snowboarding or skiing in. We love it here.

Best spot to ride in So Cal. Get there early or else you're gonna have a bad time.

Great fun in the winter time. A variety of sporting opportunities as well as great restaurants nearby.

Super fun little snow board resort. Well maintained and staffed and they are about to complete a major renovation/upgrade to the lodge.

Love Bear Mountain. Not quite as busy and usually quick to get on the lifts. Trails are well groomed.

Our son took beginner ski classes, so our review is limited to our son's ski class. Class size was small and a good student to teacher ratio.

The best resort in SoCal. Park is super sick and creative. Something for all levels of fun. It's close to LA so expect crowds and lines. I'm not a fan of them either but that's what the beers for. If you don't like the food brown bag it

Great mountain for beginners to experts. Good freestyle park too. Lift tickets are also good at snow summit just down the road.

Good variety of park features and decent grooming. Park crew is out in the middle of the day to resalt and rake the features. Lines usually are not too long during the week. Weekends do get busy and there is sometimes more waiting than skiing on the busiest days

Too much Traffic and the Parking attendants create more traffic by talking to every car for 5 minutes. The ticket lines are also very inefficient.

Well organized for family of 6 - ages 4, 6, 7, 9 and adults. Lesson for 2 youngest, others did lifts and 2 different slopes. After lessons, family went on beginner slope so youngest got to ski with the family.

Amazing resort I had a snowboarding class I had instructor Zach and he was amazing. Would recommend.

Good place for snowboarding and skiing. 2 hrs drive from LA. Really cold weather in December.

Good range of slopes for different levels. Always a bit crowded with snowboarders. Don't rent equipment from here though.

Close with fair grooming and lift services. Group lessons are not worth it here, lift line staff leaves the place feeling unorganized as you fight for your place in the queue. Overall a good close place to go for a weekend especially if you enjoy terrain park elements, just don't expect top quality service.

Nice place to see snow for SoCal residents. We love going to this in Jan and Feb.

The beginner and intermediate runs here are great. I would recommend for people who are learning to go here.

Stop at Costco for same day lift passes if you're going with a friend and you'll pay about $65 per ticket (4x for $249). Sell the rest or keep them for another day. Its like BOGO on the weekends.

I've been coming to the mountain for years, and love this place! This year I came up for the weekend to celebrate my birthday. First off the staff at guest services was awesome. I must say the real MVP of the weekend was Richard working the lift! Full of energy, having a good time out there and working hard. He made sure everyone was having a great time on the mountain. He also saved my weekend from disaster when he found my car key that had fallen out of my pocket. He was quick to get it to guest services where I found it waiting for me at the end of the day! Richard you're the man thanks for an epic weekend. Also a big shout out to the whole bear mnt crew!!! See you next year

Awesome place to go and snowboarding great for beginners too

Okay it's not Colorado, but it's close and makes surfing and skiing the same day possible. Love SoCal!

Waiting for real snow but still nice for the price.

Attended the Triumph Foundation's annual adaptive snow skiing event, hosted by USARC (United States Adaptive Recreation Center) located at Bear Mountain. Outstanding day! Great staff and volunteers. Excellent equipment and gear. Good food. Decent conditions and prices. Best local skiing in SoCal.

Great skiing with plenty of snow and different types of terrain for all abilities.

It's very smartly organized and the lessons are very helpful. The mountain trails are very long and very well pitched. The toughest trails almost have steep drop off feels. The intermediate trails give a good taste of steep and lesser pitched trails. There is always snow because they have man made snow and in the winter the natural snow really makes the slopes awesome.

Lots of traffic here. Take a different road there maybe. You ll be stuck in traffic.

The place was heaven on Earth. You feel the mountains and peace but get 5 star customer service

Big Bear is a amazing resort and was a great first experience!! My first time Snow Boarding, I had everything I needed. Great time!

I have never been but I feel compelled to comment on the racist incident by Hostess Tami. You should be ashamed and you are not a true American.

Taking a star away. 25 minute wait for a 10 dollar cheese burger. What happened to the heat lamps and the plethora of burgers that kept filling up the window? So you change it to one guy serving one burger per order, who makes the order when it's ordered. Long lines for lifts is one thing but long lines for burgers isn't productive to anyone.

I was not happy that they waited till 10:30 to start the chair's to the other 2 peaks .

Drove there from LAX for a white Christmas lunch. Traffic was terrible, food was disappointing

Snow conditions weren't bad. Very hot day and very long lift lines. Food cafeteria was extremely slow and staff had no urgency about them.

Too many people on holidays and when it first opens. It's better to go when it's not packed. The drive down the mountain is crazy All the people that pull over and play in the snow ruin everything risking there life almost getting hit by cars making traffic.all the Jerry's on the mountain kill it too they park there snow board in the middle of the runs. the drive down the Jerry's ride the brakes all they way down. If you don't know how to snowboard or ski and you are learning go to summit not bear is for experienced riders it's a small mountain people start to crash when idiots are everywhere

Parking attendants were unhelpful, rude and impolite. It took us 6 hrs drive to Bear Mountain, due to road closures. We missed my son s lesson. We had 2hrs left of snowboarding. The lady at the window was polite to change his lesson the following day. No compensation for our lift tickets.

lift ticket price is out of control this is not mammoth and 129 for a lift ticket on the back end of a holiday is ridiculous. How is January 4th considered a holiday?????
