The Baxter theatre is steeped in tradition and prestige of the local acting scene of Cape Town. If you want to feel nostalgic as a local resident, or alumni of the nearby University of Cape Town, The Baxter is the place to go.

A decent restaurant and coffee shop are available, where you can sit comfortably and catch up with an old friend. The productions and shows are high quality and the venues/sets are just right, simple, without modern flashyness. This is an old school theatre, go there to be reminded of the bygone era of simple entertainment, where the message of the playright is conveyed to the audience by the competent actors in the cast, rather than the aesthetic environment of the venue.

This theatre and concert hall is constantly filled with drama, art, Music, theatre. If you need a night away from modern Music, try an evening of UCT classical/jazz or african students in concert.

I saw Edward Albee's 'The Goat, or Who is Sylvia' on Wednesday night. It was awesome, thought provoking stuff. I love theatre that stretches you and leaves you questioning your values, your conditioning and life in general. Albee's work did exactly that. Thank you Baxter for bringing this kind of intelligent theatre to humanity.

The Baxter theatre has been there for many years but still looks modern and impressive. Different size theatre where shows that range from drama comedy musicals and concerts are offered. I went to a Classical music concert and the acoustics was a joy. you can buy a drink or coffee at their in-house restaurant

My visit was to the restaurant only . My comment is perfect. Had some problems finding places in centre and a lady guard gets 10 stars for courtesy and helpfulness. She worked before in sea point.

Great theatre in the southern suburbs under the University of Cape Town, active with different shows all year round, shows usually scheduled in the evening time. They have a great restaurant on the upper level

ZOLANI CENTRE TO BAXTER.

ZOLANI CENTRE TO BAXTER.

Cape Town is still the best in IsiXhosa education, culture, lifestyle, people, etc.

I remember when I joined Nyanga Arts Development at Zolani Centre in 2009, there by Nyanga taxi rank. I joined the drama classes, others joined dance, music and film. We did a lot, I learned a lot. Even more thankful in the arts groups to meet a University of Cape Town (UCT) student telling us to join UCT SHAWCO Masizikhulise free courses. I participated in the Entrepreneurship and Information Technology courses.

The community of Nyanga is lively. With the Nyanga Arts Development we showcased our work at Artscape theater, on that day on the audience we even had Pallo Jordan who was one of the first Government Ministers under Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki Presidency. In 2009 he was the Minister of Arts and Culture. His father is AC Jordan, the first black Professor to graduate at UCT. AC Jordan written the TV novel "Ingqumbo Yeminyanya", meaning The Wrath of the ancestors. At UCT there are special places named after him.

For participating in drama classes with Nyanga Arts Development we would get invites to events around our community, Baxter theater, got exposed to Assitej International programmes, celebrity events, etc.

That was my experience with Zolani Centre.

The Baxter has proved conclusively that over the years it has been the closest to providing "theatre", whether local or otherwise, to the ordinary man in the street living in the townships and on the Cape Flats. The role it has played over the years at this level is completely understated and requires proper recognition by local and national government. More recently we have seen an array of local talent such as Mark Lottering and Jonathan Robain being show cased to mention but a few. It has indeed become a super venue for theatre, comedy and musical performances for all the peoples of Cape Town.

My 1st time at the Baxter but what a feast omw never saw such talented young people. I truly enjoyed every moment I step in. It. Was worth my money. I hope you can extend your play next year I would love to take our youth of 50 young ladies and gents to watch it. Especially because most of them are from disadvantage homes. Thanks once again

How do you review a theatre? I have no idea, but here goes. It's all facebrick inside, stuck somewhere in the 70s, maybe early 80s. It's spacious and has a nice feel to it, seats are good, acoustics too (to my untrained ear). Ummm... Geez, I'm struggling here. OK, let me put it this way: if there's a show at the Baxter, the only thing I worry about is finding parking space, but that's about it. I suggest you go early, find a spot to park, stroll down to the Hussar Grill, have a meal, and then go to your show.
