Beautiful basilica adjacent to The Catholic University of America. Many impressive mosaics throughout.
A prayerful place for worship, and for seeking the Blessed Virgin's intercession
Let me just say, "WOW!". What an amazing experience for me to be able to see such a magnificent display of Religious Art in so many cultural forms. Anyone with an affinity for the Arts, Christian or Non-Christian, is sure to appreciate the Basilica's splendor. I have always wanted to visit and I am glad I did. My only regret is that I didn't have more time to visit. I WILL BE BACK! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! :))

Amazing architectural landscape lined with cherry blossoms. Great place to appreciate the blossoms and avoid the crowds! Get off at the Brookland metro stop and follow signs for Catholic University of America, the Basilica is just past and across the street from the Busboys and Poets. We only walked the grounds and laid on a blanket on the grass outside the rosary garden, but it was beautiful and relaxing!
Bookstore, giftshop, cafeteria, multiple chapels, confession. Mosaics dominate all the walls in beautiful splender. Some of the Papal items are located in the cript below as well as statues of Saints.
WoW, this church is very beautiful and huge. When I went it was under construction but even like that I was able to enjoy my visit. Perfect place to pray. They also have a store and restrooms.
A beautiful basilica and a must-see if you're in the area. It's extensive, opulent and absolutely breathtaking.
Very solemn, great Christmas mass. If your Christian and happen to be in the D.C area, it's a must visit.
Beautiful place for people from all over the world and from all religions.
Inspiring! You can take a one hour guided tour, an audio tour that you take at your own pace or walk about and take pictures. The gift shops are amazing. Friendly staff at 2 different information desks on the bottom floor.
My third visit, this one during the March for Life - Jan 25 2013. My second time to personally chat with Msgr Rossi - who has the MOST warm and friendly voice and total dedication to the Basilica and all the Pilgrims that visit. Mother Mary will hear my prayers for Msgr Rossi and this Shrine. When you visit, please allow time to enjoy all that this House of prayer has to offer. I always run my fingers along the countless names who donated to build this Church, that are inscribed in the marble walls.Thank you Msgr Walter Rossi. mel from pittsburgh

Peaceful experience and if you do not have time for the one hour tour, do pick up the complimentary audio headset so you can fully appreciate the experience. I felt peaceful and relaxed the whole time. Be prepared to look up in the domes for extraordinary pieces of artwork.

"I do not know how much longer I will live," National Radio (USA) quoted Mr. McCain as saying.
Sources close to McCain said former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush are likely to read the eulogy at McCain's funeral, which will be held at the National Church in Washington.
I have been here several times and it is a very special place of prayer. If you love the Blessed Mother this is one place to visit and enjoy the little chapels. Each chapel is unique in a sense that every place that the Blessed Mother appeared is represented. Just so Beautiful!
Be aware that during covid, the masses have limited capacity. Plan to get there at least 30 min before or you won't get in.
The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is a magnificent Roman Catholic Church located in Washington, D.C. It is considered to be the largest church in North America and one of the ten largest churches in the world. The Basilica is dedicated to Mary, who is venerated by Catholics as the Mother of God.
The history of this beautiful church dates back to 1913 when it was first proposed by Bishop Thomas Shahan. The construction began in 1920 and continued for over 60 years until its completion in 1990. The Basilica has been designed with a combination of Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, which gives it a unique appearance.
One of the most striking features of this church is its massive dome that rises up to 329 feet above ground level. It is adorned with beautiful mosaics that depict scenes from both Old and New Testaments, as well as images from Catholic tradition.
Inside, visitors can find numerous chapels dedicated to various saints and religious figures such as St. Joseph, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. John Paul II, Our Lady of Guadalupe among others; each chapel has its own unique design and artwork.
The Great Upper Church houses many impressive works including an enormous mosaic depicting Christ Pantocrator (Ruler over All) surrounded by angels; it also contains several side altars dedicated to different saints such as Saint Patrick or Saint Francis Xavier.
In addition to being a place for worship and prayer for Catholics worldwide, The Basilica also serves as an important cultural center hosting concerts featuring renowned musicians from around the world throughout the year; these events are open not only for Catholics but also for people from all walks-of-life who appreciate music or art.
Visitors can take guided tours through this magnificent building where they will learn about its history while admiring its stunning architecture and artwork; there are also audio guides available if you prefer self-guided tours at your own pace.
If you're planning on visiting Washington D.C., make sure you add The Basilica on your list! This awe-inspiring structure will leave you breathless with its beauty while providing an opportunity for spiritual reflection amidst all that hustle-bustle city life offers!
