To say beautiful is little to describe this cathedral. I was fortunate to visit her recently with some family and friends. We were all impressed by the majesty and beauty of the building, its multiple chapels, altars, images, paintings and other pieces of art that compose it. It's worth a visit.

The Basilica has just completed the placement of the final piece of mosaic tile on the central dome and the scaffolding should be coming down soon if not already. Definitely worth going on a tour if you can. I'd generally just suggest out of courtesy that you try not to wander around in the upper church during actual church services, though no one is likely to stop you just use common sense and check mass and other event schedules before you go.

The architecture and mosaics are great. It began in 1924 and was completed 2 years ago. Each chapel has a unique summoning silence for recollection and prayer. The main wing is impressive for its size, colorful and without losing the axis of the place. A place for the encounter with Jesus Eucharist.
Who does not believe observes the artistic aspect and comes out in love.

A stunning church; simply amazing cultures dedicated chapels that were in line with their heritages. But in my opinion the crypt chapel takes the cake for beauty and ambiance; everything just feels holy!

Oh, the tour guides are extremely knowledgeable and friendly! I definitely would suggest taking a tour if you have the time!

Perhaps the most beautiful church in the entire DMV region along with National Cathedral. I come here for service on special occasion and atmosphere is great. Everything is perfect here. When you enter this church has a very calming presence. Once you attend the service or come simply for personal prayer you will feel the presence of God in this beautiful place.

You can spend days here and not see it all. If you are hungry they also have a cafeteria that's open until about 3pm. You can participate in services, light candles, and even taken a selfie with Pope Francis. It's a beautiful site to behold.

About Basilica of the National Shrine

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is a magnificent Roman Catholic Church located in Washington, D.C. It is considered to be the largest church in North America and one of the ten largest churches in the world. The Basilica is dedicated to Mary, who is venerated by Catholics as the Mother of God.

The history of this beautiful church dates back to 1913 when it was first proposed by Bishop Thomas Shahan. The construction began in 1920 and continued for over 60 years until its completion in 1990. The Basilica has been designed with a combination of Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, which gives it a unique appearance.

One of the most striking features of this church is its massive dome that rises up to 329 feet above ground level. It is adorned with beautiful mosaics that depict scenes from both Old and New Testaments, as well as images from Catholic tradition.

Inside, visitors can find numerous chapels dedicated to various saints and religious figures such as St. Joseph, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. John Paul II, Our Lady of Guadalupe among others; each chapel has its own unique design and artwork.

The Great Upper Church houses many impressive works including an enormous mosaic depicting Christ Pantocrator (Ruler over All) surrounded by angels; it also contains several side altars dedicated to different saints such as Saint Patrick or Saint Francis Xavier.

In addition to being a place for worship and prayer for Catholics worldwide, The Basilica also serves as an important cultural center hosting concerts featuring renowned musicians from around the world throughout the year; these events are open not only for Catholics but also for people from all walks-of-life who appreciate music or art.

Visitors can take guided tours through this magnificent building where they will learn about its history while admiring its stunning architecture and artwork; there are also audio guides available if you prefer self-guided tours at your own pace.
