Loved being there. Not a fan of the picture of Christ at the front of the Church. Infact I really disliked it! Loved all the dedicated Chapels. Attended confession (welcoming) and Mass the day after.

This is a great place to visit when you feel spiritual or just want to see a nice basilica. I love the architecture here. The statues and the paintings inside the building are very nice. Great place for a church service as well as a place to visit for tourist. I came here the day after Christmas for a service and it was all in Spanish. So they have English and Spanish service here.

Happy Holidays and may The Lord, Jesus Christmas our Saviour and The Blessed Virgin Mary watch over and protect ye whom read herein.
As a child, my Mother brought me to Shrine mass a few times and from the first time I beheld this beautiful church, at age 3yrs., it was destined to become my favorite religious structure! Now, as a grown man, working in the Basilica as a Security Officer, I can honestly report, it remains to this day, my favorite building, let alone, my favorite church. Everyday, I witness visitors become overcome emotionally and moved to tears as they pray to the Holy Mother Mary for comfort, solice or protection.
It should definitely be on every Roman Catholic's Pilgrimage Bucket List before they are called home by God our Father.
God Bless you all.

Very beautiful cathedral. I attended mass and it was great. I haven't been to a Catholic church in a while but it was inviting to everyone. The different shrine from different countries were spectacular and each one unique. Whether you are religious or not, it is a nice place to visit and see the architecture and overall design.

Beautiful basilica. It has been several years since I've been here but I can't wait to return. Unfortunately, many of the chapels have been ruined by the addition of Protestant-style prayer tables to replace the Catholic alters that were originally present.

The Basilica is wonderful. It is very peaceful. A good place to go to relax, pray, eat, and attend mass. The Basilica is very well maintained inside and out. It is clean and beautiful. The restrooms are clean and well supplied. There are many small chapels to choose from. There is an upper church and a lower church. There are two gift stores/religious articles stores on the lower level, one on each side of the large cafeteria.
The Basilica is handicapped accessible. There is plenty of parking. The outside is well landscaped with places to sit on benches or on the grass.

My first trip to America and I visited this great church. It was really nice to attend mass on a Saturday Evening. The basement consists of holy grottos of our Lady which must be seen. Thank you Jesus for giving me the opportunity to come here!

About Basilica of the National Shrine

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is a magnificent Roman Catholic Church located in Washington, D.C. It is considered to be the largest church in North America and one of the ten largest churches in the world. The Basilica is dedicated to Mary, who is venerated by Catholics as the Mother of God.

The history of this beautiful church dates back to 1913 when it was first proposed by Bishop Thomas Shahan. The construction began in 1920 and continued for over 60 years until its completion in 1990. The Basilica has been designed with a combination of Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, which gives it a unique appearance.

One of the most striking features of this church is its massive dome that rises up to 329 feet above ground level. It is adorned with beautiful mosaics that depict scenes from both Old and New Testaments, as well as images from Catholic tradition.

Inside, visitors can find numerous chapels dedicated to various saints and religious figures such as St. Joseph, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. John Paul II, Our Lady of Guadalupe among others; each chapel has its own unique design and artwork.

The Great Upper Church houses many impressive works including an enormous mosaic depicting Christ Pantocrator (Ruler over All) surrounded by angels; it also contains several side altars dedicated to different saints such as Saint Patrick or Saint Francis Xavier.

In addition to being a place for worship and prayer for Catholics worldwide, The Basilica also serves as an important cultural center hosting concerts featuring renowned musicians from around the world throughout the year; these events are open not only for Catholics but also for people from all walks-of-life who appreciate music or art.

Visitors can take guided tours through this magnificent building where they will learn about its history while admiring its stunning architecture and artwork; there are also audio guides available if you prefer self-guided tours at your own pace.

If you're planning on visiting Washington D.C., make sure you add The Basilica on your list! This awe-inspiring structure will leave you breathless with its beauty while providing an opportunity for spiritual reflection amidst all that hustle-bustle city life offers!
