Must see for Catholic Christians. Dedicated to Mary and her various titles. The impossibly magnificent mosaics and collection of in situ modern Christian art inspires prayer add a sense of pride in American Catholicism.

The clergy can be questionable at times as a whole, but it is catholic. I found more of a problem with the Templars cross on the alter as many may not know is still existant and used in freemasonry. If the church doesnt take a harder stand on going against masons than you might as well asume they have infultraited this Holy parish of our lord too.

The cross on the alter may be pure since the church outed the templars centuries ago, but the masons still use the symbol to this day. It hits a little too close to home for the Chirch to be in D.C, heart of American freemasonry, and than use the same sybol they still bare today.

I often enjoyed the mass there and have not seen too much apostacy though. It is a beautiful church with an amazing gift shop for those who are not part of the regular mass and parish.

I lack the words needed to express how amazing this church is. It is enormous. It is beautiful. The artistry is carefully planned and is also high quality.

For those that have any kind of relationship with Jesus, his mother, and the saints, this is a meaningful place.

A wonderful Christmas Mass! The celebration was just that, a celebration. The Word was well spoken by the lectors in the the 1st and 2nd readings. I enjoyed the lack of politics in the homily. The music was great (provided by Stone Ridge .... sorry I can't remember the rest of the name... a Catholic school choir.) I was caught off guard by the drum and normally would throw a fit but it was well contained and it IS a celebration. The music leader has a great voice. I never thought I'd be writing a review of a Mass for Google but... here it is.

This is auguably the most magnificent Basilica around...the art is exquisite, the architecture flawless and astounding. I cannot say enough about this place. For the spiritual, certainly, a new beginning and understand of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. If you are in Washington, DC...a visit will be quite rewarding.

About Basilica of the National Shrine

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is a magnificent Roman Catholic Church located in Washington, D.C. It is considered to be the largest church in North America and one of the ten largest churches in the world. The Basilica is dedicated to Mary, who is venerated by Catholics as the Mother of God.

The history of this beautiful church dates back to 1913 when it was first proposed by Bishop Thomas Shahan. The construction began in 1920 and continued for over 60 years until its completion in 1990. The Basilica has been designed with a combination of Byzantine and Romanesque architectural styles, which gives it a unique appearance.

One of the most striking features of this church is its massive dome that rises up to 329 feet above ground level. It is adorned with beautiful mosaics that depict scenes from both Old and New Testaments, as well as images from Catholic tradition.

Inside, visitors can find numerous chapels dedicated to various saints and religious figures such as St. Joseph, St. Therese of Lisieux, St. John Paul II, Our Lady of Guadalupe among others; each chapel has its own unique design and artwork.

The Great Upper Church houses many impressive works including an enormous mosaic depicting Christ Pantocrator (Ruler over All) surrounded by angels; it also contains several side altars dedicated to different saints such as Saint Patrick or Saint Francis Xavier.

In addition to being a place for worship and prayer for Catholics worldwide, The Basilica also serves as an important cultural center hosting concerts featuring renowned musicians from around the world throughout the year; these events are open not only for Catholics but also for people from all walks-of-life who appreciate music or art.

Visitors can take guided tours through this magnificent building where they will learn about its history while admiring its stunning architecture and artwork; there are also audio guides available if you prefer self-guided tours at your own pace.

If you're planning on visiting Washington D.C., make sure you add The Basilica on your list! This awe-inspiring structure will leave you breathless with its beauty while providing an opportunity for spiritual reflection amidst all that hustle-bustle city life offers!
