We were visiting the area and wanted to eat somewhere that wasn't a chain. We saw this place and stopped in on a whim. I'm so glad we did!

We are a family of 7 so going out to eat can easily overwhelm many small restaurants. This was not the case here! They didn't bat an eye and quickly sat us at a large round table. It was dark, but clean and the menus were simple but enticing!

The kids got grilled cheese, chicken fingers, a burger, and a cornbread dish. They were all good, but the fries stood out. They were fantastic! The kids meal portions were good sized and the 2 kids who got big boy meals were happy with theirs too.

My husband and I both ordered fried oysters with 2 sides. The green beans did taste canned but were still good. The star of the show, however, were the oysters. They were super big and juicy and fried to perfection! I've never had fried oysters before and they were incredibly delicious! My husband has had them before and said they aren't usually this good. I think I will save myself disappointment and just not bother with fried oysters unless I'm at Baker's restaurant

I hope we will get the opportunity to come back in the future!

I thought the food, the staff ,the drinks, and the overall great vibe of the place was highly enjoyable. What really made the meal there and event was the duo of Cindy and Gary. Their entertainment was a musical meal gift into itself.Thank you for a Saturday night out well spent.

I don t normally write reviews but after hearing good things about the food and service, I decided to take my family for dinner. The waitress was friendly and the restaurant was clean. The food for our child was brought out early, by about 10 minutes. Normally I wouldn t have minded but she was bored and done eating by the time my husband and I got our food. My husband ordered the crab bisque and ribeye steak. He enjoyed the crab bisque but the ribeye steak that he ordered medium and it came out well done instead. It was unseasoned and very bland. The mushrooms on top were rubbery and had no color (mushrooms should be pan fried not boiled when topping a steak) he couldn t eat them. He scrapped them off to the side and needed A1 just to eat his steak. He spent a lot of time just trimming off all the fat. I ordered the pepper chicken and it was ok. The bbq sauce was sweet and it paired nicely with the spice of the pepper jack.....however, the pieces of chicken that I ate that did not have the sauce on it had no seasoning. Both of our green beans were sweet (I didn t mind but my husband doesn t like sweet beans) and they had no seasoning. Our child had the chicken tenders and fries. The chicken was fine but the fries looked burnt but were flabby so she did not eat any of them. We thought about dessert but after already spending $56 on bland food we decided to play it safe.
The majority of the patrons were of middle age or older but there were a few other younger families there.
The staff was friendly, food was bland, so we do not plan on going back unless the cook is trained on how to properly season meat BEFORE cooking.

Absolutely love this restaurant. Their chicken and dumplings have been a favorite in our family for many years and are the best C&D we ve ever had. They are a great price, and you get a big plate as well. We normally take out, but the dine in experience is wonderful as well. I wish they had them every day of the week though! Definitely would recommend trying this place if you haven t yet!

Went for the Chicken & Dumplings special for the first time in more than 20 years; it was as good as I remember.

On-the-bone chicken atop a platter full of slippery dumplings and rich, creamy broth.

It's rare that a meal doesn't need at least a little salt, but this has enough flavor that I never y touched the shaker...just a little black pepper was optional.
$6.99. Worth every penny!

Skip the mixed vegetable side dish unless you like frozen vegetables. Go for the lovely side salad instead, and at $3.99, a real bargain.

They also bring you fresh rolls, great for sopping up the broth.

My only regret is that we just didn't have room for the delicious looking desserts.

Baker's. Since 1956, and still going strong.

Hands down one of the worst restaurant experiences ever. We ordered for 6 people. Everyone at the table had a complaint about their food. I ordered breaded veal, absolutely horrible! Prepattied frozen TV dinner is what this tasted like. My husband ordered a chicken salad sandwich. Chicken was dry, rubbery, had no flavor what so ever. Green Beans..... Who makes sweet green beans? The gravy tasted like thickened water. My tip to the waitress, If you come to a table and there are several plates of uneaten food you should ask if there is a problem. The only good things I have to say is the restaurant was clean, the waitress was nice and the lemon pie was good.
