We eat here a lot! The Salmon Shitake Risotto is absolutely delicious. The Nigiri Plate is my favourite for lunch. There is outdoor seating for when the perfect San Diego weather is it's best.

The aesthetic, the decor, and the location of this restaurant are all great. Street parking was fairly easy to find right outside, and the service was prompt and attentive despite being busy. Now for the food, we ordered crispy rice + spicy tuna appetizer, Kobe, Stardust, and the chef's selection 7 pc nigiri.

The appetizer and Kobe roll were definitely my favorite. The crispy rice + spicy tuna is different yet so satisfying for an appetizer (plus we went during happy hour for half off!) The Kobe was flavorful and fulfilling. Stardust was a good, but a pretty standard tasting tangy roll that didn't wow me. For being on the pricier side and well-known for their nigiri, I was underwhelmed. The salmon and tuna were great and I enjoyed the texture, but the other pieces were not up to par. Hopefully I can try a few other items that will make me change my mind. I would definitely come back for the appetizer and Kobe roll, and try some other popular rolls!

Super cool place with a super cool vibe. Also open late so great place to go when everything else is closing. They had a DJ when we were there which was awesome! Good food selection, great sake. A little long on the wait but worth it.

The Azuki Sushi restaurant is undoubtedly a place that surprises you from every way. During early June, when restrictions on restaurants open due to the expansion of the coronavirus were present, we decided to try a new sushi place. This place had very good references, so we decided to give it a try. They had the car pick up service and we decided to give it a try. They were very fast and friendly. When we got home and opened the package, we marveled at the presentation of the rolls. We ordered the special Kobe, Super Dragon and U R Kidding rolls. Each of the rolls came with a tub with a specific sauce to intensify the flavor. As soon as we tried the first one, we knew it was a delight for the palate. I would like to highlight the U R Kidding Me special roll because it surprised me. I always like to try particular rolls but this I think has been the best I've ever had. It comes along with a mix of fried leeks and a sauce of white truffle and other spices that you have to put on top of the vegetables. I have to say that the mix of flavors of this roll is highly recommended.
As for the price, it is true that the special rolls are a little expensive but the experience is worth 100%.
In short, if you want to try new flavors of products made in detail without spending too much on price, this is your place.

Unbelievable high quality that comes with high cost... Service is weak considering the cost but that's not a deal breaker... Azuki needs to keep more uni stocked... Seem to be always out or I'm ordering the last remaining and it's 6pm.... Definitely make this place a top choice and definitely make reservations

The was not that good. We had a sort of variety plate, not sure what the title was. One of them was good, some were mediocre, and some were bad. The waitress was very nice I think. Asides from being nice, attentive, friendly, she also didn't scoff too much at us requesting the little chopstick helper device (it was barely perceptible and understandable and nice that she held it back so well). The drink I I had, the Azuki Drop?? It was quite nice. I felt things were a bit pricey, considering they had to (or maybe chose??) to put wasabi sandwiched between the fish and rice.

That's not your average sushi restaurant. That's THE Japanese Restaurant. Vibrant, clean, friendly staff and the menu is absolutely incredible.
We love: the Salmon Special, the Toro Sushi, the Crab Fried Rice is amazing and the famous R you kidding me is so yummy. But yes I suggest to make reservation.

The Lobster roll seems over the top, but it's well worth a try. On the high end for sushi, but here the difference is clear. Individual pieces here are excellent, rolls are creative and not overly sauced. Enjoy.

Let me begin by saying before I ate here, I had an extensive conversation with someone from their establishment via Instagram. They are very helpful and knowledgeable and guided me to an exceptional experience. What made it exceptional? Let me begin with the quality of the fish is excellent. Every bite was fresh and flavorful. Each piece of nigiri was cut with great precision and proportionally appropriate to the amount of rice it was served on. If you ve never tried hamachi collage before, I suggest you do. Although it was an appetizer, we used it as a shared entree. To finish the meal, the fried banana desert was probably one of the best endings I ve ever had. Thanks again for a wonderful experience. Def will return.

I had a simple meal today, the eel & avocado sushi roll, as well as the fatty salmon nigiri. This place is more expensive, but not unreasonably so. The fatty salmon was very high quality, all but melting in my mouth. The roll was simple, but packed with flavors. These characteristics are a direct result of having fresh sourced fish of high quality. I am excited to come back and try something else.

had a fantastic time, food was fresh and nice and a edamame was perfect nicely salted happy hour mixed drink was good but on the small side only real negative was the avocado was not ripened on my daughter's roll. Service was excellent.

Food was excellent. You many different choices of sushi, sashimi, or other plates. What I liked most was that the serving sizes were generous - especially for sushi. Each plate has good presentation and the staff is very attentive and nice. I would recommend this place for a date or nice evening out but you don't need to dress up either. Easy parking all around the neighborhood too. Metered parking is plentiful and turn off after 6:00pm. Just steps from Balboa Park for a walk afterward too. I recommend the miso soup, Kobe sushi plate, and chocolate chocolate chocolate dessert.

Azuki is absolutely one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in San Diego. From the super nice atmosphere to the friendly staff and amazing food, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who truly appreciates high quality cuts of sushi and Japanese food. I've honestly never had anything bad here but especially like their shishito peppers, by the border, stardust, and kobe rolls. Their crispy rice is also super good and they have a nice selection of sake. This place gets busy though especially on Friday & Saturday nights, so I would definitely make a reservation for the weekend...even without one though, they are definitely worth the wait!

It is my sushi place to go in San Diego. My big things on the menu are two. One is otoro sushi and the other one is the miyazaki wagyu sushi.
Staff is friendly and professional and the back covered patio is very inviting.

amazing prices for the quality of sushi. A group of friends and I all went here to have saki and some rolls before we went out and everybody had a great time. Great place to go, excellent prices, really good service.

This could have been a 5 star rating. But the service needs more fluency. The servers was slow for a Sat night. There was one person taking orders and two others clearing tables. And they didn't talk to each other. So we had bowls given for our Udon and then taken away without being used and the food was a fair bit delayed each time. Even the check was delayed.

The ambience is beautiful. The seating, lighting, the candles and bonsai on each table, everything is very very thoughtful and tastefully done. The utensils are beautiful as you'll see in the pictures below. Wooden utensils always bring a certain Zen and calmness to food, vs ceramic/glass/Formica.

We ordered the Ora King Salmon sushi, the By the Border specialty rolls and the tempura Udon. To finish it, I ordered the lemon ginger kefir soda which was on the board as one of their specialty drinks.

The food was beautiful, elegant and quite tasty. The sushi was pretty authentic. The specialty rolls were better with the soy sauce but very good. The Udon broth was interesting. Not the spicy broth I usually like, but I liked it. The noodles were pretty bland, which my boyfriend liked but I was like, meh! The tempura included a shrimp, potato, zucchini, carrot and an onion. Shrimp and potato tempura works, but the carrot does not. I prefer an american onion ring to onion tempura. The zucchini, I could not make my mind up.

I think this place has pretty authentic cuisine - a typical toned down, elegant presentation and taste of food. Price wise, it is better than some of the other fancy sushi places I've tried in San Diego.

This to date is my favorite Sushi places I have been too. My wife and I were in San Diego for New Years Eve and wanted a good place to go. I went here because the reviews were so high. I was very impressed with everything. We didn't have to wait and we sat at the bar (which is my favorite spot because I get watch them make the rolls).

We ordered the Jumbo Shrimp Roll and the one that had Beef on top (I forget the name). Both were excellent. I will return here every time I am in San Diego.

To start we had the miso eggplant and crispy rice which were very tasty. They have an assortment of sushi, definitely more than your typical sushi spot, which is sure to appease most sushi connoisseurs. Decent selection of sake too. Definitely worth a shot.

I am very critical or sushi restaurants, this is one of the best. Living in LA we get down to San Diego every once in a while, this is a must. R U Kidding me roll is as good as everyone says, and the sushi and sashimi are excellent, try the diver scallop!

Relaxed sushi restaurant with great ambiance, friendly staff and high quality sushi. They're blue fin tuna special is really exquisite and their selection of nigiri, sashimi and maki is impressive overall. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Literally the best sushi I have ever had.

Literally the best sushi I have ever had.
The caveat is that I am from Texas. While I would love to have enjoyed an Omakase, we had o-toro, salmon nigiri, and the Kobe Roll. My goodness the Kobe Roll was one of the most heavenly experiences I have ever had in a roll. Small tears literally rolled down my eyes at almost every piece. Maybe if I was on the west coast this wouldn't be such a standout but this was the finest reasonably priced sushi dinner I could find in San Diego as a Texan, and I am superbly impressed. The waitstaff is impeccable, stepping in to refill your water or wipe your table of any stray soy sauce at a moment's notice. Truly the finest sushi experience you can have without breaking the bank or traveling all the way to Japan. I can't wait until the day I can come back for an Omakase. Each and every sushi chef truly seems to enjoy giving each guest their best at all times. Service was quick and sitting at the sushi bar is exceptionally pleasing. Receiving your food items directly from the chefs is very personable and feels very fulfilling. Gochisoosama Deshita indeed.

Was looking (once again) for sustainable sushi spots in SD and came across Azuki, and im very glad i did as my fiance and i frequent Harney a lot and we wanted a change/something different. Sushi is very high grade and so fresh. You can def taste the quality and it does not disappoint. Sushi is pricey anywhere from 15-28$ for specialty rolls.
Only thing i could possibly say is that harney does have better flavors in rolls overall; however, we did not try all of the rolls so my review may be a bit biased. Will be coming again soon to check out their other rolls. Love and appreciate that this business supports other local businesses all about it! Oh and they serve stone IPA, what's not to love

Me and my wife went here for the San Diego wine festival. So our menu items were vastly different from what they normally serve. The atmosphere is very nice, small and quaint. Quite a romantic setting. Highly recommend this restaurant. Price is a little steep, but worth the quality.

Edit: Came back to Azuki after the winner festival, was not disappointed at all. Absolutely enjoyed my wife's birthday dinner here. Next time I do believe we will be getting the Omakase.

Great place for a dinner date. Spotty parking but not impossible like some alternatives. I called in to notify them and I came 20 minutes like to a reservation (really bad I know) but they still saved my spot. Omakase was a fun new experience; Robin was our sushi chef and he was really responsive to our requests/questions and great to talk with, but also gave us space. They have a great selection of sake as well.

The food was bomb! The service though..... Our waitress was so rude and snoby ,she never checked in with us, couldn't recommend anything and it really felt like she was avoiding our table. It felt like the whole waitstaff had to pick up her slack. They did a good job though. I've been a waitress, I know how it goes.

Wow, this sushi was REALLY good. Our new go to spot. I've passed this place a few times but for some reason never tried it but a particular craving tonight for something close and highly reviewed led me back. I got the special dragon and shrimp tempura and you could just taste how fresh and carefully prepared it was. The flavors all came together so well. My partner raved about his sushi too. Didn't get pictures, oops. We'll definitely be back.

Only problem though, my partner called to ask if the rolls could be separated because he has a pretty serious shellfish allergy and they said they would but all the rolls came together, not a mistake that can be made in situations like this.

Severely disappointed with the woman working 7/17/20 at 7 in the evening. She was extremely rude and I could not believe the way I was treated. The restaurant forgot part of my order so I called to ask for a refund. She was very nasty and said I should just come pick it up. We come here a lot with big groups and order a lot. Not anymore.
