Avenue Clothing Company Review

Staff must have been told by management to harass customers more over the festive season. We must have been approached by 10 different staff members today directing us to this sale and that special. One young lady jumped out from a clothes rack asking if we needed help...was she hiding in there the whole time? Lol Kind of annoying, hope this is just a Christmas thing and is not the new status quo.

Love the new location and store. Always one of my favorites, and even better now.

Cam at the front desk was incredibly knowledgeable and kind.

It's a beautiful store, great place to scope out great gear. Just wish the prices were a bit more competitive. Though the staff is amazing, which is probably why the prices seem a bit more.

I think the location is in a good spot. I've never had problems finding parking. Pretty spacious inside with obvious areas of designated sections, camping, shoes, etc... Lots of products too choose from.

Unhelpful staff. Staff didn't know their product. Staff didn't know where to find products in the store. Calgary MEC is so much better.

Cashier 1029 was a horrid to deal with took 15 minutes after saying we don t have an account for him to allow us to purchase a battery.

I bought a very expensive knife from the store when they were at the last location it's been well over a year and was concerned about returning it as to whether or not that would be acceptable, it was not only acceptable but they were extremely helpful and arranging it to be sent to my new address as well , completely free of charge and this was after they had closed they stayed an extra half-hour just for me which I deeply appreciated and did not expect... very helpful staff very positive and happy genuinely thanks to all your staff I have shared this with all my family and everyone very good business thank you

Purchased a new mountain bike and camp gear from MEC. I was unhappy with the tent and they exchanged it with no problem. I wont buy my outdoor equipment anywhere else.

I really like MEC, the service is fantastic. I have purchased a lot of equipment from here and the experience that really sticks out was when I was looking for a larger backpacking pack, the staff member was awesome and gave me lots of information about choosing the backpack that was right for me and showed me tips on how to pack it as well. I ended buying a really good pack. Later I went back to replace my old backpack (Not the one I bought from MEC) with one that had better that had back support in it and it has really made the difference.

Still don't like the new logo, but everyone is friendly, there is good gear, and the return policy is still legit.

The staff at MEC are always super friendly and knowledgeable. I buy all of my outdoor gear from here.

I want to give a shout out to Adam, who helped me get my bike shopping started when I didn't know anything about "fancier" bikes. He said he wasn't in the bike department normally but I appreciated his help and he seemed very knowledgeable! I really wanted to buy a bike from MEC based on this experience and the rock solid and maintenance policies, but I found a bike that met my needs a little better for the same price elsewhere. Thank you for your help Adam! Just like the policy...you rock!

Great store and products but they could use better customer service skills and training ... always hard to find someone and when you do there is 2-3 of the MEC staff having an conversation and you feel like you are interrupting them when you ask for help ... today I walked around half of the second level and didn't see any staff ...

If your into the outdoors then this is the place for gear.

Excellent service here. I went in hoping to buy a hiking backpack that was on clearance but thanks to Nancy, we discovered it was not the right size for me. She helped me pick out a much better fitting one (even put weight in the bag and adjusted all the straps to make sure it fit right) and suggested an add on item that would make flying with a hiking backpack worry free. It's great having knowledgeable staff who make sure you're buying the right gear. Thank you Nancy and thanks for the suggestions for our Europe trip!

I always enjoy going to this MEC location. Recently we purchased sunglasses for our two year old. Great selection of kids glasses

Repeat customer, good quality items with staff that are extremely helpful. MEC has a reputation for standing behind their in-house brand and I've seen them replace some of my friend's equipment with new pieces when they have failed unexpectedly. Just wish they would carry some of the top end brands like Osprey and Arc'teryx.

They have everything you need but the prices are outrageous.

MEC that's great as usual. Pricey items, but definitely well made and worth finding those clearance items. I've shopped at MEC for years.

Today, the two young men who were working in footwear stood next to each other facing the hiking boots and chatted for over ten minutes. I wasn't even noticed let alone acknowledged. If they weren't wearing the MEC uniform, you'd never have known they worked there.

Anyhow, I decided to leave without even having tried on new shoes. I made sure to tell someone at the customer service desk know how my experience went. If upper management cared to spend more time at the store (or have senior team members actively mentor staff) customer service might be noticeably better there. Second awful customer service experience at the downtown location in a year.

Good staff, selection and found everything I needed

ALWAYS have had awesome service, everyone is so ready to help and knowledgeable.

This is a relatively new MEC center, and the spacious architecture definitely complements the high quality items and service the store provides. Admittedly, things can be pretty expensive, but you'll get high quality.

The bike shop here is great, the guys here really know their stuff! I make sure I take my bike here every year for a tune up or for help with any minor to major adjustments I need such as a different seat, etc. ( I am not very handy!) They are super helpful, knowledgeable and have been able to teach me a lot about my bike/riding that I never knew before without making me feel stupid or silly. I don't feel comfortable riding my bike until it has been inspected by the staff here.

Bike stuff aside, this shop has everything you need for anything outdoors! Hiking, camping, biking, running, you name it, want it wish it and it is most likely here. For people saying that the prices are slightly higher, yes they can be however I don't mind paying a little more money for a quality, durable product that is going to last me years and most importantly NE SAFE.

I love MEC, I have been a member since 1990, back before we even had a MEC in Edmonton, I buy all my bike components and accessories there, buy a back pack there and guaranteed you'll probably hand it down to your kids,

Nice layout and product selection, but staff were unfriendly.

Poorly stocked. Simple items like shoe laces, tire tubes are often not available in sufficient quantities. Then there's the problem of two people working the entire top floor...I also feel like prices on everything have sky rocketed.

For a company that claims to be a CO-OP, and who's goal it is to get Canadians outside it is surprising so little of their stuff is made in Canada. Shame

An example for all retails. Of course they aren't perfect, but there is no perfect retail. Prices are fair, considering the level of quality and the way they stand behind what they sell.
I appreciate the way they hold the line on price increases on their older stock until the newer stock comes in. Most other stores would hike the prices immediately.
Service has never been a problem, considering that even a well-staffed store like this one can't attend to every customer immediately. I don't mind waiting my turn.

MEC is a Canadian institution. Wide variety of outdoor activity clothing and equipment at reasonable prices. Most of the people there can offer decent advice when asked.

MEC is awesome! staff are helpful and approachable.

Awesome place to find the latest camping stuff for reasonable prices

The new MEC store is a very nice expansion to a quality Canadian brand. The store now has a lot more focus on biking and active urban wear and less on camping and hiking. As always, you pay a bit more for their quality products, service and warranty, but it's almost always worth it for items that will last.

I was sold critical Avalanche airbags for my two sons, spent $2600 including all safety equipment ..and was sold useless compressed air canisters from a different manufacturer. So my 2 sons went sledding in backcountry terrain with no protection. I was met with a shrug and indifference when I drove the 200 km round trip to get the correct canisters. And MEC Edmonton don't even stock them!... They should stick to clothing if that's the best they can do in far as life and death situations. Totally not impressed

This store is great for new innovations and Eco friendly products... I even go here to find supplies for motor cycle touring never under estimate what they may have great start all no question is too narrow or broad they always have something helpful to say

The new location is awesome! Bright with lots of natural light and more inventory than before.

Member for a very long time. Very dissppointed by staff member in downtown store tonight. While shopping with friends we were approached by said staff member. We complained about no prices on a number of items and listened to what he had to say. He blamed staff shortages, no time, and that skus krpt changing. Excuses. We told him its a hassle to deal either this and not acceptable. He argued that point and walked away. My friend was one isle over and the staff member had walked over to his coworker there and was mocking me and making faces and rude gestures at me. He did not know my friend was etching and listening to all this. I will never go back.

MEC is a hyper reliable brand and shop for your outdoorsy sporting goods needs. A lifetime $5 membership into a great community and shop is well worth its price. I've picked up climbing and cycling gear. They have great service, an excellent product mix, and a great brand promise. I think of them first whenever I need something outdoors-related.

I come in to pick up items the website says are I stock. After looking for a long time with no offers of help despite emoyees walking around drinking coffee. I fonay flag a guy down and all he does is look at the shelves like I was doing until I suggest that maybe he looks on his computer. I've never been in a store with such useless staff, they rarely ask to help and when they do the seem to know less than the average person on the trail. What's the point? If I want to do all my own work and research I'll just shop at Amazon. Had the leave and order from Amazon anyway as the moron couldn't find a single thing I aksed for.

Reasons why I keep coming back: rock solid guarantee (can always return if you are unhappy with product). Growing selection of beginner and high end gear (can really only comment on their cycling gear... EX bought a stages power meter from them)

Things to improve upon: Kind staff but more enthusiasts rather than out right hardcore know it alls. Parking kind of sucks.

I would absolutely recommend MEC to people of all skill levels. Fantastic gear for the price, with one of the best return policies I have ever seen.

xxcYa mec has good equipment but if you're going there to get your bike worked on don't! The guys there don't look to confident in what they are doing & they will charge you a lot for it! I had to bring my bike in 2 times because they didn't fix it properly! Worst $250 i ever spent... I'm not going back there that's for shur.

Had only the ski boots they had on display, worthless!

Seems much nicer (less crowded stock/ better organized) than the "new" south side location. They have a neat little bike fix it stand out front too.

If you are into skiing, hiking, canoeing, biking, and etc this is the place for you!

Attentive staff, though to be truthful it was slow when I was there with few customers.

Doug H. Knows his stuff. We discussed bringing down the weight of a hiking pack and I realized how little I've been paying attention to my weights and that for similar prices I could have cut my pack weight by 20% at least.

With people like him working there I don't know why I shop other places sometimes.

I have never gotten a good customer service from mec Edmonton. If you are looking for something and asked a staff member. They will just tell you directions instead of guiding you through the store to what you want. It feels like we are bothering them when asking a legitimate question about a product. I have no clue about how mec hires their employees or what their business practice is, but they are doing a fine job at not having the best customer service. If anyone is looking for outdoor gear, I find going to campers village will give you what you need. Thumbs down to mec.

The first place to go and often the only place you need to go to find everything you need to explore the great outdoors! Great price, awesome products, and knowledgeable staff make this a go to place for sure.

The service was great tonight. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. They had what I needed in stock and it was easy to find and the options were clearly priced.

Phenomenal customer service. I am very new to backpacking, and the staff helping me let me try on almost every pack in the store. I learned a ton and got a great pack that fits me perfectly and carries weight no problem.

Placed online order with MEC and received wrong merchandise. It's not accepting returns, even by mail, so I'm stuck with shoes I can't wear and am out hundreds of dollars for this item and more incorrect stuff sent to me. Other businesses have adapted and will successfully survive the pandemic. MEC's only answer to my dilemma is to place another order with MEC! But I'm not delirious yet....I will be spending money with retailers who offer better customer service in our current climate.

Amazing shop with great staff! Have one of the best bike maintenance programs I've ever heard of. They do a really good job of helping bike set up. Anyone looking for an Intense brand bike this is your place for very nice high end bikes. Will be coming back here for more bikes. Ooh their parts stock is also the best I've seen in AB for all brands of bikes! I really hope these guys pick up some more brands as those service is great!

Excellent service at MEC today! I was shopping for a backpack and they helped me so much! I tried on so many and they gave me weight to try different styles with weight and packing in them! The gentleman said he was covering the backpack area because someone was ill but he showed me an overview and then we talked about specific needs. The selection was wonderful. I went home with an osprey backpack and I just love it!
