be wary of stating your ethnicity. if you belong to a minority AUT will automatically add you to cutural groups they expect you to join whether you are interested or not. Took 7 months to finally be removed from those organisations.
Great for students who wish to involve themselves in such activities but extremely annoying for those who are not interested. the amount of notifications that clogg your inbox on the blackboard app is insane. Ended up missing important exam notifications due to this which resulted is a poor grade.

Loved the people I met, University was fun because of them. However once you become a graduate they don't care about you or help you as much to find a job relating to your degree. They don't prepare you for reality whatsoever. Just go in pay your fees, get your degree and that's it. No further assistance from there. They also nearly mucked up my degree by only giving me 1 major where I did 2 majors. Had to follow up in regards to that. Would love to come back and study, but don't see the point since they can't support you in regards to finding a job relating to your degree.
Very unhelpful stuff who gives wrong advice and all they care about is making money..they keep failing students and not accepting them into their prefered programme even though they have top marks.
It's city campus of the University. It's quite small, not big, but has plenty of shared facilities and a nice design. It also have a few convenient shops inside the campus. The negative thing is due to the location, it cannot afford any outdoor sports facilities.
The location in the CBD, and quite convenient to access all other places inside the CBD area.
The university supported the endeavors of various secondary schools. One such program running at the time was the Young Enterprise Scheme wherein students pitch brilliant ideas which have the potential to be future businesses
AUT university of New Zealand majorly focuses on students success, research and industry connectivity. Its is known as 3rd largest university of New Zealand
Just starting my studies at AUT. I feel it has an excellent environment for studying. AUT put so much effort in the interior design for example the Sir Paul Reeves building. Here there are many helpful lecturers and staff to bring out the best from students.
I was unhappy with a lot of aspects from the assignments. Firstly, we were given far too many assignments in a short time period they should be more spread out so we can have enough time to do them. Secondly, it is very unfair that I was unable to have an aegrotat and only have a week extra to complete 2 assignments while I am grieving and wanting to spend time with my close friend who doe not have long to live. Instead, I have to put all my energy and effort into finishing while having 10 mental breakdowns in a day and attempting to type while having tears in my eyes. I am not happy at all and I thought the university would be more compassionate to my circumstance. It's a shame as I was really enjoying my course at the start of the year... UPDATE: they did give me a few extra days but I had to apply for another extension. I am dissapointed in a lecturer who is not replying to me after 3 emails Overall, this uni is much better than Auckland Uni. Marking is much fairer
As an exchange student, I would give the country a 5/5. The university is more like a 3. Not really high learning outcome, you'll learn a couple of things down the road, it has a nice campus and student accommodation.
I particularly like that there're partitions between study desks in the library! Though the toilets are not clean most of the time, hence the one less star.
It feels that the qs university rank completely underestimates this school, and the undergraduate degree in accounting is nowhere higher than Messi. First-class facilities, first-class environment, that is, the qualifications of the instructor is much worse than that of Austria.
World class lecturers, facilities and a really great student atmosphere. A university you'd attend if you want practical real world learning and a job at the end of your studies.
I was part of an event this week Wednesday at the WB Building where we were asked: Why did we choose AUT as our place of our study? Some responded: because of the scholarships they offered to school leavers (Year 13), some said because of its reputation, great facilities, university ranking, family influenced etc...
When it was my turn to answer, I said: "Being a migrant with all my education (Primary to High School) completed in Samoa, AUT got my full attention because of its geographic location in the heart of South Auckland where I was so familiar with. Also, many Pacific Island students study there (South Campus) which made me feel at home" I never regret my decision 3 years ago #AUT #FindYourGreatness #Future
I am 2nd sem PG student at AUT. AUT is more like bubble, more like another product selling institution. No real value for education. Mostly tutors are masters and PhDs, however they lack basic knowledge about course. I am doing PG in Information Technology and tutor has no clue of practical part of the course, they mostly read out from slides, which kind of annoying. In one of the course, I couldn't even understand tutor through out my semester. Some of the slides bought from Pearson. Overall, I would suggest people to come get admission and get degree, don't expect to learn anything or just avoid it and do your course from smaller institution.
Fantastic vocational University in the Centre of Auckland City. Without question one of the best universities in Australasia. Much more future orientated than any other tertiary institution in Auckland. Entirely future orientated. Very popular with both local and international students. A cherishing place in which to study.
For me, this is the best university in the world. Great teaching staff, world-class facilities, excellent opportunities for employment after graduate. And so much more!!!!!
I was verbally bullied by an instructor from Language department. At first, I took it as a challenge and thought she's just being too strict. But had enough when she humiliated me by revealing my grades intentionally as my classmates could hear enough.
I file a complaint but AUT responded such actions so i gave 2 stars. Its a nice place to study.
Dont wanna come back there anymore because of this kind of experience I had.
Consistent unfair treatment and favouritism for specific students and bullying by one lecturer in particular on the Masters education course. Bullying in the education dept at AUT has been a huge problem for years at this institution, and with the head of school's attitude being flippant to it, it will never get any better. My advice is to study at another university where you will feel safe and supported to do your course.
Communication Department. Education: It s heavily dependent on practical studies and teaches relevant workplace skills. Faculty: The communication department is open, welcoming of questions and always make time to communicate and help students. I am an International student so ofcourse fees has not been easygoing. Strong point: Easy to talk to staff and a kickass infrastructure with pretty cool study spaces. Weak point: Other universities provide direct internships after studies (like Unitec) and AUT doesn t. However, lecturers are always updating the announcement board with internship/work opportunities.
Been there for 1 semster study abroad, had some awesome classes about maori language and culture. Thanks for the lessons, feeling home, for the whanau and everything!
I have studied computer programming there many years ago. Many my classmates got false impression that programming is easy and do not want to put efforts to study, and failed and dropped out. There must be a way let people understand this path or any path is not easy. People need to put serious dedication into their study. Don't waste time at university. University can not force people to study, make people smart, help people find a job. University is a tool, a life experience. Don't dream on it but doing nothing.
A fantastic place to be an undergrad in health sciences (clinical and otherwise) if you enjoy being ignored by academic and support staff. I have experienced being ostracised by staff for having knowledge beyond the scope of the course. I experienced being patronised by academic staff when addressing a concern with regarding assessment (a concern held by other students too). When I sought support from "support services", I was ignored. AUT is a terrific place to study health sciences if you want to pay exorbitant fees to be spoken at by lecturers without PhD qualification who use convenience rather than accuracy as justification for what and how they assess. My experience was isolating and dehumanising. I do not believe the institution offers this experience across all courses however, this was my experience in the course I enrolled in (and have subsequently withdrawn from). I'm sure that it is actually a lovely place to teach/lecture in health sciences because the policies support the experience of the staff rather than that of the students.
Heard really good things about you people and admission staff is very very very friendly. Finally got admission too. Hope my further experience there will be as good as it was before admission :)
Been here for a year after graduating from UoA since I heard good things about it. Its been a nightmare, lecturers- while generally rather nice- seem to work against you by changing due dates, never posting briefs in a timely manner, and making you learn everything off youtube videos other people have made. I wouldn't have paid all this money if I knew I would just be learning from youtube. Plus its rather telling that the University of Technology hasn't had working wifi at all while I have been here, and haven't updated to the newest version of programs. Another person I know has to repeat the first year for the third time now because AUT haven't been bothered to fix her enrollment issue. UoA might be full of narcissistic students, but at least the University teaches you and the lecturers are competent and passionate. In comparison to one lecturer I had AUT, who publicly shamed people for their grades and taunted them that they would fail everyone for even the smallest mistakes.
Care more on making money and charging you fees rather than to educate you. Was sent to do some paper by my supervisor and told that the paper is part of my degree and already covered by my tuition. About 6 months later, I got a new bill for that paper! Decided not to continue my degree after 6 months, and they don't want to refund half of my 1 year tuition fee. The buildings used to look very modern, now it's just look so worn out and sad. Have no idea where they spend the astronomical tuition fees they charge the students.
Great place for practical and theoretical learning. Class sizes are often school which works better for me. The new WG building is pretty nice with all the open study spaces.
I love this uni! Provides a comfortable, safe, modern learning environment for a variety of learning streams! Many support systems in place for students - peer learning, employability labs, student reps and clubs, the gym, spiritual services and a great teaching team! Thankyou AUT! #ChooseAUT #ILoveAUTUni
The great complication in visiting AUT university is finding your building (all WB...WU ETC) because they are all street buildings and if you approach like me from Aotea Square there is no map of locations to be seen. I like some of the spaces very much but others are just run down office buildings
One of the best university in New Zealand and precisely one among the best in the world. The university offers world class infrastructure to support the learning and give you a life time experience. The professors are friendly and very much cooperative. They are always there to back the students and helpful in enriching the students with the key information they need for their future. Also there are numerous student activities that makes the student life filled with worthy experiences.
AUT campus has got many buildings which are named like WG, WC, WF, WZ, WY, WE etc. Each building offers an awesome ambience that makes you feel comfortable.
This university is highly recommended if you are looking for a special experience in learning and to excel in career.
There are parking facilities provided for students and professors.
My dearest beloved modern university in Auckland when I was on a double degree program from Indonesia. It has everything to offer for an international student. Love the facility, love the amazing lecturers, love the environment and the friends.
AUT doesn't even make the top five list in New Zealand so I should have known. I have successfully completed degrees at 3 other institutions including Otago and Massey(in the top 5) and thoroughly enjoyed those experiences. However AUT has been a shocking experience. Assessment criteria are not based on knowledge and understanding of content but on peripheral and less significant parameters. You are not offered a variety of assessment styles per paper as is done at the better institutions. When put on practical placement you run risk of not being placed with a person qualified in your profession?!?!?! AUT is also highly inflexible. I meet the criteria to study a post graduate course including both the undergraduate degree and yet I'm not allowed to do an AUT post grad paper as an elective for my post graduate Otago degree (even though Otago is forward thinking and happy to allow it) due to AUT's highly rigid thinking with no real justification. Not only that, I am completing a post graduate diploma in rehabilitation at Otago (2nd best in NZ, AUT nowhere on the top 5 grid) and yet I won't be able to go into the masters at AUT without paying to have previous learning recognized, or without repeating some Diploma papers. So you have to ask yourself- why if I've completed the diploma at a university ranked much higher than AUT, would I have to repeat any diploma papers in order to move onto the masters at AUT?well the answer is obvious. It is a money making scheme.
So my advice to anybody is, avoid AUT at all costs even if it means chosing another profession to study!! If you have to study Physio or OT suck it up and go do it at Otago. Bottom line is if you want a mediocre quality degree, or less, go to a university that doesn't make the top 5. Take it from someone who has had a vast range of highly successful experiences for all other degrees (3!).
I should have known better- and I took a chance. But now you know better, don't take the chance.
AUT, the best university. Thanks AUT for the best three years! Highly recommend to anyone thinking/considering university. Journalism teachers are fun, engaging and the best! <3
I love AUT, done my undergaduate degree and currently pursuing my PG. Student get instant support, and the service is good. Very diverse. The lab lacks materials and got old. All in all, my experience is good.
