Visited the place after Anzac day and the place was filled with flowers. Great collection of artifacts from the Gallipoli War. The list of names on the wall reminds you of the lives that were lost.

This is a place of remembrance with it displaying all the names weapons and stories of war. The exhibits are amazing and out together very well walking you through the sensations that a soldier would feel at any one time. It is incredibly important to note however that this organisation is sponsored by the companies and corporations who produce and manufacturer the weapons of war. But this is all displayed there so look on your way in and be prepared to spend more that 2 days looking around at the exhibits.

Admission is free and there is a simple bag inspection at the time of entry. If there is no problem, enter the bag with a paper band of evidence that the inspection passed.
It is divided into World War I and World War II, and you can go around while listening to the guide on a free tour. (The tour can be stopped halfway. I heard about World War I, but it took about an hour.)
There are also fighter jets and submarine displays, and a cafe restaurant in the back. There are also many cosplay photo spots and exhibits for children in the basement.
The exhibits of World War II are especially valuable for Japanese people, focusing on Japan and the Nazis.
There are plenty of poppy motifs and ANZAC goods at the goods section.

A beautiful and thoughtful ode to those who fought and fell for our country. It does justice to the hardships and trials experienced by our diggers both past and present, young and old. A very emotional place where everyone can pay their respects and learn a lot.

A must visit place. Spent a full day and could have gone back for another day. Free entry but leave a donation. The outside exhibits are worth a look as well. Free all day parking on weekends. They dont open till 10 am of a weekend but good time to do the outside exhibits before it opens.

Amazing collection of Australian history, you will need more than a couple of hours to see everything. Covers all the wars and super informative, can't wait to go back to finish seeing everything!

"It's not a place to celebrate war but to remember and learn about how conflict has shaped and changed our nation".
Every Australian citizen should visit the Australian War Memorial and realise what has been done by the so few and recognise their sacrifice.

The War Memorial is amazing! From the great grounds outside to the thoughtful displays inside.

Due to Covid-19 you do need to book ahead, although we were lucky arriving late on a Thursday afternoon (about 3pm) and were able to get tickets at the door but I would highly recommend booking in advance! Particularly if visiting on a weekend/long weekend. All precautions are being taken from providing personal details at the door, constant cleaning of high touch areas, a stylus being given to use throughout the museum to use on touch screens and staff visible everywhere.

I could've stayed a lot longer but had a restless 6 year old. If visiting with small kids you don't need more than 1-1.5 hours. If visiting child free then give yourself as much time as possible as there's a lot to see!

Having visited Gallipoli in 2015 and the Western Front in 2018, the Australian War Memorial was the obvious place to be for the Dawn Service, ANZAC Day 2019.
It was well worth it. We spent 3 days exploring the museum, especially the World War 1 gallery.
I particularly liked the dioramas, and the British Mark IV tank "Grit".
The tour guides and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. I still learned new things.
The Last Post ceremony is well worth attending.

There is still so much more to see, but that will be for another trip.

Make sure you give yourself a day as we didn't even scratch the surface in 3 hours. Guide Mal was fantastic and very passionate and knowledgeable, the collection of artifacts is wide and varied. I recommend every Australian to go amd visit your heritage.

Very nice memorial, a lot better than what we expected! There are several floors with the history of wars since first world war, with planes, parts of ships, submarines, war tanks etc. There's also a cool floor with nice activities for kids. Super recommend, and if you enjoy reading everything, make sure you leave the day just to see everything!

Love the sanctity and dignity of the memorial, and the Last Post Ceremony each day is genuinely moving.

The memorial isn't just for those of us commemorating the sacrifices of our family members but should be visited by all Australians.

The COVID arrangements in place mean that you do need to book in advance, so don't leave it too late.

This is an excellent attraction in Canberra and commemorates the service personnel who have served and the poor souls who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The paid and voluntary staff do a fantastic job here assisting and guiding the visitors around.
I would recommend you check on the website and go see one of the last post ceremonies the war memorial holds here every day.
The memorial is so big and always updating their displays meaning you can visit time and time again.
I recommend this as a must see first while in Canberra.

Spent the entire day here and still didn't see everything. Great displays including many original vehicles and pieces of equipment although there were some which I thought could have been better illuminated. Had an informative highlight tour led by Eugine; I would recommend that any visitors take at least one tour, maybe two as the guides appear to have different focuses.

Every Australian should visit here. Quite emotional at times. But I feel we need to be reminded of the sacrifices made by so many to enable us to live so freely in this beautiful country I am so proud to call home.

This place is awesome. It's a must see for anyone going to Canberra. To see and experience it properly you will need a whole day. At the moment with covid19 restrictions you need to book your sessions of which there are 3. All sessions are free entry but numbers are restricted.
You can get a meal at the cafeteria on site in between sessions. The food was very good and prices were reasonable.

This is a must visit. I didn't realise the size of the museum here so beware that you can easily spend a whole day and not get through all the exhibits. There are free guided tours from staff throughout the day and they have amazing stories to share with you.

Take your time planning this visit and be prepared that you may not get to see everything if you are only making a short visit. There is a cafe towards the very back of the museum that serve standard food and coffee.

Don't forget to take a moment to view the actual memorial and pay respects for fallen soldiers.

Every day commencing at approximately 4:55pm the memorial holds a Last Post Ceremony in the Commemorative Courtyard sharing the story behind on of the names on the Roll of Honour. Please attend and be respectful of this service.
