It s a nice place to learn about the war history of Australia.
But, for those of us not interested in history and museums, the burger served in nearby restaurant is just perfect ;D.
It will cost you $17, plus $2-3 for a drink.

Memorial has great atmosphere. I've seen many museums around the world, and this is one world class museum in Australia! My ESL mother appreciates it so much, she patiently reads almost all the display's description! My toddler, nieces and nephew hasn't tire of the Discovery Zone!

Largely neutral in terms of the war v anti-war debate. Mainly focus' on the individuals and experiences of war, rather than any moral national dimensions. I feel this allows the place to be somewhere for all Australian's, and all the fallen it commemorates.

Also the free guided tours are great, our guide was excellent. Great way to get some good stories and a taste of the WW1 and WW2 exhibits.

Awesome demonstration of war and the participation of australia and the teo world wars. Good place for warfare lovers as well as war game lovers to experience weapons for real life and gather information about them. The map was pretty clear and there was no difficulty of any kind in touring the place. Although, if you want to enjoy it completely, you need at least 3-4 hours time. Cafe too was good.

A sombre memorial to Australia's war heroes. Few spoils of wars in the form of old artillery and tanks are on display. We reached after closing so could not go into the building to see the exhibition gallaries. The grounds are sprawling and have commemorative plaques for numerous soldiers and wat participants. A few nice sculptures complete the tour.

Lest we forget for sure...
Great job on preserving history...
Saving Dedication and sacrifice made...
Everything is exceptional...
The only thing I didn't like is some headstone/cross were also displayed, which in my opinion should be put on the ground honouring making the grave.

The displays are huge but well laid out. It helps to use the map and plan what you want to see. The free guided tours of 60-90 minutes are really helpful in getting an overview plus some fascinating insights ... then if you want to, go through again to spend more time at those things of most interest. The aircraft display at the rear is awesome. The daily ceremony at 5pm where they tell the story of one individual, lay wreaths and play the last post is wonderful. It is truly worth the short time it takes. Bring tissues!

Great historical museum. Entry is by donation (you can tap and donate here). This is one of my favourite places to visit in Canberra (I love the arboretum). As a huge history buff I could spend hours here, you need about 3 or 4 hours to do this place well. I lost track of time and didn't manage to see the modern section.

I was surprised how good the War Memorial was - I spent many more hours than I had planned going through the exhibitions and will come back again - its an enlightening and sometimes sad experience, but worth every minute I spent there - a must see when your in Canberra.

One of the most interesting and informative museums I've ever visited. War Museums are not my thing... however this museum has such a broad range of options and delivery formats, too my surprise, I stayed for hours... the research section is quite addictive... the volunteer staff providing guidance and additional information when required.

Amazing experience. We thought we would be there a few hours but ended up being there all day & that's without reading every piece of information. I have always appreciated what the ANZACS did for our country but this gave me a deeper understanding of the hardship & tragedy they suffered.

Probably the best thing to do in Canberra. It could take an entire day to see everything. We found the free midday tour really interesting and engaging.

Additionally, everything including parking was free although a donation or purchase from the gift shop is recommended to further support the memorial.

My Friend and I visited the Australian War Memorial when they had the 60,000 poppies on show. This was absolutely magnificent, I knitted 300 poppies and made over 250 felt lapel poppies to sell. The War Memorial is well set out, beautiful maintained and the staff very helpful.
Two of my great great uncles are on the wall, both died very young.
The shop has a great array of items to buy. Seeing it was poppy time, I bought a beautiful fabric bag which I use for work every day. I also bought a poppy magnet for my fridge.

Every Australian, especially those who have not served, would benefit from a visit to this special place. From the entrance between 'the lions' you can make your way past the peaceful pool and up to the Shrine of Remembrance. Stretching along each side of the pool are the names of all those who have paid the ultimate price for our right to be free. The displays of the World Wars, our recipients of the VC, and the conflicts and events Australians have served in since WW2 can take you a full day to walk through and study fully. And Poppy's Cafe is definitely worth a stop!

A touching warts and all view showing Australias war history. Every display is different and a different story is told. Make sure you give yourself at least a few hours to wander through the memorial as there is a lot to take in. A call out to the curators who have put together immersive dfisplays and to the numerous staff who seem to be everywhere wanting to answer any question you have. I feel I am a better person for spending a morning here. Thank you. A must see for anyone in Canberra.
