Saw Culture Club there! Great venue! Small as a concert venue SHOULD be.
The venue is iconic and any seat is a good seat to see the show. Definitely get the early if possible and enjoy a drink will outside enjoying the veiw of downtown and the park.
My one complaint is the seating is far too cramped. This is especially noticable for me as I have unusually wide shoulders makeing for an uncomfortable sitting experience trying not to "spill over" into the people's space next to me. And yes if you have an obese person next to you you will be touching them the entire show, no way around that.
Saw Robert Plant twice and Sammy Hagar most recently. A great place to see a show
The sound quality in the balcony isn't as good, but it was a lot of fun to go to a taping for the first time.
Cool party venue with a moderate amount of dance floor space.
Awesome food and atmosphere. The music was way too loud to have any sort of conversation. They know this too. They provide earplugs at every table.
Literally the best place to see live music in Austin. There is not a bad seat in this place.
Will not go to any other venue in ATX...it is The Moody Theater!!!
Took the guided tour of the venue. Fascinating and awesome!
Really great venue, tons of memorabilia throughout the place. Saw Conan O'Brian and some other comedians, and the lights, sound, screen were all great looking/sounding. Restrooms clean and with enough facilities. Drinks overpriced, and seats a little small as you'd expect. Looking forward to going again.
I finally got to experience a ACL taping and I want to go to every one, all the time. The venue is relatively small so it makes for a very intimate setting with the artist/musicians. Since it's a taping, they are very particular about no photos or such, which is understandable. This is definitely an experience that I want more of.
I have seen a couple of shows here, including Alice in Chains and Conan O'brien's comedy tour. This venue is great! While I cannot say there is not a bad seat in the house, both times I went I was almost in the back row of the highest balcony and the view was still great! Bear in mind, you will catch the backs of people's heads if you take pics or video. The venue is small enough that even sitting that far back you are still engaged in the show and can see the performers on stage rather well. They serve wine and beer here, too. As for parking, I usually hit the parking garage across the street from the garage that is attached to the Violet Crown cinema. (Protip: you are not supposed to park at the Violet Crown garage for special events they say, the garage directly across the street didn't have that restriction and it was way more empty and much faster to exit). The pic attached is from the Alice in Chains show.
With Robert Palmer in the house, a memorable experience.
Excellent venue! Saw a great show with Lukas Nelson and the sound was great. Feels like a full concert without being too large of a venue.
The first and only time I've been here was one of the worst experiences in my entire life. I am still in shock by how terrible the situation was handled, especially after paying nearly $150 for my tickets. The only reason I didn't leave the venue was because it was my favorite band that I have been waiting to see for ten years. The whole night was ruined because of one of the staff members. I was there with my cousin and boyfriend, and we could not find our seats in time before the band came on stage and lights dimmed out. We were standing together when one of the staff members approached us and already we knew that he was going to be unpleasant. He asked for our tickets and before he even knew where we were seated, he pointed at me and told me I was coming with him twice and was so condescending and rude. He led me to my seat, and before I even got a chance to try to get to my seat, he was waving his flashlight at the seat telling me he wasn't going to leave until I sat down and started PHYSICALLY pushing me towards my seat causing me to trip over the people I was trying to get past. I was so appalled by how he treated me I couldn't help but to tell him "f*** you", and he sarcastically replied, "I know she said thank you." I could not get over it the whole night no matter how perfect the actual performance was. This is not how I expect to be treated, especially as I travelled from another city just to be able to see this band. Ridiculous! In retrospect, I wish I would've thought to get his name because I have never had a male, especially at a venue or audacity any place audacity nystagmus a matter of fact, have the audacity to put his hands on me like that.
My seat was behind a pole (3 feet wide). Please make sure you ask if the ticket is NOT behind one of the poles. Hard to enjoy a show with a blocked view.
Beer is expensive, but that's kind of to be expected. I wasn't a huge fan of the acoustics inside but overall ok
Attended a private corporate event at this iconic Austin venue. Truly a great experience!
Nice venue with plenty of space and good sound. The bathrooms are super clean and spacious.
State of the art sound and great visual lines! One of the best Austin has to offer!
We've seen Bill Mauer, Steve Miller Band, Black Joe Lewis, Mumford and Sons, There is not a bad seat in the house. I would give it a best ever rating but their beer is overpriced.
Super cool venue. It was big yet felt intimate. There are a good variety of seat types including "suites". Also love the fact that the concession areas are covered but open air.
One of the best places to see a concert the venue is small and perfect since you can get up close to the act from pretty much any seat in the place
The quality of sound from this music venue is phenomenal!! From a sound standpoint there are basically no bad seats. From a visual standpoint there are very, very few obstructed view seats and those are pointed out in the seating chart, and even then your view is not completely obstructed, but rather partially. Alcohol is allowed in the seating area, seats are comfortable, and there are cupholders. Depending on the concert, sometimes the floor location is standing room only.
Got a chance to attend both an ACL live taping and the Art Cow Auction here and was pleasantly surprised at the overall experience here. Roomy patio, great sound and decent priced Imperial beer. Look forward to visiting again.
Saw one of the best concerts that I have seen in a long time and the Moody Theater was the perfect venue to showcase Lyle Lovett and his Large Band. Would recommend that if you love live music, then this is one of the best places in Austin to experience it at it best.
My first time here had a great experience. Friendly staff very helpful! Would come here again!
Experience was great except for some of the staff was pretty rude. I was looking for water fountains and was accidentally walking towards what I guess was backstage? Staff told me to turn around if I was looking for bathrooms and I politely said I was sorry and I was looking for water. She rudely directed me around the corner, which was indeed where I was walking towards anyways. I mean damn lady I bet it feels good to have authority but I was just thirsty. About 10 minutes later, my sister and I were running to catch a show. One of the staff asked us to stop running and before we were even given two seconds to let that register/let us slow down, another staff member said "No running means NO RUNNING" like we're in kindergarten or something.
If it wasn't for the relative politeness of the bartender and the checkpoint security personnel who made up for the rest of the staff, as well as having an otherwise great experience, my rating would be two stars instead of three.
This is a very intimate venue. Good acoustics and the interior of the building has historical stats about ACL. If a performer you like is going to do a show here book in as far in advance as possible.
Small Venue, great.place to get up and close to the bsnd
Excellent music venue, not a bad seat in the house and the sound is excellent!
Not a bad seat in the house. Excellent sound system, attendance are very nice also. One of Austin's best venues IMHO.
Great, intimate venue. Highly recommend entering the ticket lotteries for live recordings.
The acoustics sound great. There is no bad seat in the place, in my opinion. One draw back is the lighting. Occasionally it is shined in your eyes and you aren't able to see the stage comfortably.
Best place to see a band. There isn't a bad seat in the place.
The best venue I've been to in Austin. The views from the balcony are spectacular and there's a great gallery at the top. Looking forward to coming back again.
A nice venue in downtown Austin. The crew were very nice and helpful. A member of staff even went and got me a set list after the concert was over.
We had soo much fun with Rumors. Fleetwood Mac tribute band they were awesome!!!
It's a good venue. Went to a great concert and really enjoyed the show.
Drinks too expensive. Way to sell more tickets with standing floor space. Can't help it. I miss old Austin.
This place has the best Acoustics of any live venue ever! From Slayer/anthrax to smashing pumpkins to social distortion....they all sounded amazing. I have been very disappointed at so many shows because the sound was terrible. Not here! This is the best.
Best live music venue in Austin! The mezzanine level center stage seats are the best in the house!
Amazing place to see/hear a show. We were on the floor 1 person back from the stage for Wilco. Great show! #Wilco #Austin
Perfect place acoustically, and not really any bad seats.
Band is by far one of the best live shows. I've seen sts9 over 75 times and this venue makes the experience even better!
My favorite thing about this place is that when the house lights go dim the lights on the stairs make the whole place look like the carbon freezing chamber where Han Solo got frozen in carbonite.
Great concert venue. We were at a private party, so I cannot comment on public event service. Our food was varies and tasty, small portioned pork sliders, OK fried rice combos in boxes, and excellent pot stickers. The place has good sight lines on all floors, and for me the sound was good on the floor and 1st balcony. A great place to listen to music or dance.
I love this venue. The sound is great and there isn't a bad seat in the place
Went to see Bon Iver here and it was my first experience at this venue.
Everything was great except for the size of the seats. Must have been laid out by greedy shmucks who's life goal is maximizing profits.
Is everything about making the most money possible now and comfort of the patron is totally unimportant? How severely disappointing.
Great seats no matter where you sit to see a show. I saw Dave Chappelle and I was seated in the upper level but it felt like we were as close to the stage as the people of the floor. The seats and isles are really close. I'm 6'3" 265lbs and it was pretty snug for me.
Not a better venue to watch a live show IN THE NATION!!!
