This is such a beautiful place to visit. You can hear so many birds! It's a shame that walking up to it (via Walk Hill) is limited due to lack of sidewalks. Would definitely recommend visiting to feel surrounded by nature.

I am a Nanny and visited BNC last week with my charge. We had a fantastic time! We enjoyed the Early Explorers class and Mr. Adam was a terrific teacher! Very patient and taught us a lot about garden snails. We can't wait to return this coming Thursday! Great environment, friendly staff and beautiful sights to see!

The Center was full of campers and staff so there was a joyous ring in the air. Or maybe it was the screaming kids.

The kids did not discount the experience and actually brought about a sense of child-like wonder in me during my jaunt through the woods. This caused me to ignore a sign and go slightly off trail, but I was just looking for bugs.

The Nature Center was a welcome sight in the city and the trees were in full bloom, complete with birds flying to and fro, chirping along the way. The wetlands overlook was breathtaking; the open air, densely packed flora, and fresh air overtook me. A must visit for anyone looking to escape the city.

Hosted an "Under a Log" birthday for my 4 year old daughter - it was amazing!!! Bug nets, magnifying glasses, pure zen and joy for kids AND adults alike. Very reasonable prices, and love that the event costs go to a great place/cause, too. Hoping this will be our birthday tradition for many years to come. Thank you to the friendly staff who helped make the event a success.

Has short gravel trails, nature exhibits for kids, lots of picnic tables, clean bathrooms and water fountains. A great place to bring my toddler for some green time even though we are still close to the city. I like that it's not very crowded. You can visit for free, if you feel like it you can give a dollar donation.

I loved the bees, they were pollinating up a storm!

An oasis in the city. Great programming for kids, adults, and families. We took a 7am bird walk with knowledgeable guides. Saw some great birds in a variety of habitats. One of the best places in Boston.

The trails are decent mostly paved or gravel. I have been to about 20-25 different Massachusetts Audobon Wildlife Sanctuaries this year. I have never seen so much trash everywhere throughout the woods of a sanctuary like there is at this one. It was really disappointing to see that it isnt more well kept. Alot of it could have to do with the highways and main roads along side of it.

It's a nice place, if you like nature for what it is.
This is not a park in that there is no artificial order to what's out there. So it is a different experience when compared to something like the Boston Commons, where every inch of the park is designed to produce a spectacle to your sight.
This is a wildlife sanctuary. Nature grows as it will, with minimal tending to, just to ensure it doesn't encroach on the human-habitable facilities.
Not to say it's ugly nor boring in the least. Again, depends on what you're after.
My daughter and I enjoy this place. It has lots of sightseeing activities throughout the year and always seems fresh. I encourage everyone to support this organization with their membership, which is like $50 a year- If you're reading this you can probably afford that. These people do great work for the city, state and country in general.

Wonderful place! Summer day camps, and day camps during school vacation breaks are offered at this location. Check out their website for additional events, nature programs, and activities. As described on their website, "located just outside of downtown Boston on the former grounds of the Boston State Hospital, the Boston Nature Center (BNC) is a community-based urban sanctuary. Trails and boardwalks traverse meadows and wetlands, home to over 150 species of birds, 40 species of butterflies, and more than 350 species of plants. Year-round programs help foster an appreciation for nature and the environment."
