I've received care from this VA from 1996-99 and from 2008-present. Between 2000-2007 I received care at the West Palm Beach, FL VA Med. Ctr. Over the years I have been seen in at least 10 different clinics at ALM VA Medical Center and have had numerous surgeries, including bilateral hip replacement. By and large I'm pleased with the care I've received. Has it been perfect? No. No facility, with as many encounters as I've had over the years, could provide perfect care. That's impossible. Am I alive, relatively healthy both physically and mentally, and walking pain free? Yes. And I have literally hundreds of dedicated VA employees to thank for that. So, thank you to all who wake up every day and head into that hospital to provide the best care I know they intend on giving. I fear that if our government ever decides to privatize our health care those who think it's so wonderfully fabulous in the civilian sector would be in for a very rude awakening, and by then it would be too late to go back. We should fully fund, indeed increase funding for, the Veterans Administration so that it can continue to improve the health care of and healthy outcomes for this nation's veterans.

Received a voice message today. The message only states that i need to call to set up a follow up appointment with my primary care provider but does not state the reason. I called the number back which is for an operator and i spent 15 minutes with a person that couldn t find anything in the system. Why is it so difficult to set up appointments and why is the system not more detailed? You all must deal with people that don t have anything to do all day. I cannot waste time trying to set up an appointment and not know what it s for. At first i had a very good experience with VA but lately it seems as though they are slacking. Hope someone reminds them to be precise in their job.

I have always received top notch service in this hospital. Appointments are met ontime, and the schedules are organized and easy to get from one to the other. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I simply don't understand the complaints as I see hundreds of others there getting good service when I am there. Maybe you expect TOO much.

The V.A. system, say what it says, for the most part most employees are there for the check and benefits. CUSTOMER IS SECOND, and these are people who went to school cause they care about people, once in the system, IT all goes out the window.

I had to schedule my MRI on a Sunday because they were booked until the end of the year during normal work week. No problem right! I get there and there are no signs telling you where to go or anything. Huge Police sign but no other signs with direction and no one maning the front desk. I had to wander around and finally ran into a man wearing scrubs and he tells me where to go. I reached the elevators and finally a sign of where to go! WHY only there in the middle of the building??? Ugh! Anyway, i get there and it is literally a maze. Thankful for my land nav skills Bring your compass so you don't get lost j/k. Got my MRI done but the day is shot because of how long it took. How about a map of the grounds right when you walk in so Elderly & physically challenged Veterans dont feel defeated just trying to get care. It can be so much easier VA!

Horrible service, too many departments involved in patient care, lots of mistakes get made. Pharmacy makes mistakes on issuing doubles of the same medication and veterans have to jump through hoops to not be charged for medications they don t need

I visited the Audie Murphy VA hospital yesterday, for the first time in 6 months and I was very disappointed what I saw. Every hand sanitizer station I tried was empty, several bathroom automatic door openers I tried didn't work, the toilet seat covers were empty in several restrooms, several bathrooms were extremely dirty and several elevators were closed for repair or upgrades. I was surprised the line for the valet parking was empty, which is usually overflowing with cars or full. Something obviously changed and it makes me wonder why no one was using it. Whoever runs this hospital should be replaced. I talked to a few of the workers and they said the hospital executives stay in their upper floor offices and never come down to check out the hospital's condition. As a veteran, this hospital's condition is very disheartening. I'm glad I don't have to use this hospital very often.

Don't think my experience was totally rare. Went in for radiology, checked in and was seen in about 20 minutes. Tech was pleasant, professional and quick. Basically short and sweet . Things don't always go this way but I truly believe that what goes around comes around and if you're decent and respectful , the way you want to be treated, you'll get the same in return . Basically, don't start none, won't be none .

The service set-up at the hospital leaves SO MUCH TO BE DESIRED for vets receiving adequate treatments. But, most of the Medical Staff in SICU, Out-Patient Surgical 2 and CLC-Community Living Center were great people, care-givers and family-friends.

I am completely satisfied with the healthcare I have received here, including the satellite locations in San Antonio. Sometimes you do actually have to deal with the bureaucracy, but that's actually gotten better in recent years. Then again, if you're a veteran and eligible for healthcare here, you most likely (and should) already know how to do that--just be proactive. I know many of you have dealt with way more serious medical issues than I have experienced, and I pray that you are ok. But I am just commenting based on my own experience.

I had my first trip to this VA hospital yesterday. I had to go to the ER and received excellent care from the team there, I felt safe and in good hands with the nurses and doctors. It was easy to find with GPS, there is ample parking, and the hospital was easy to navigate inside. I m grateful to have this facility available to me here in San Antonio and grateful for the care I received from the ER staff in my time of need.

Thanks to the great service I received from the pharmacy again. I was out of town and needed my blood thinner. They shipped the thinner to my temporary address and followed up with a phone call to make sure I was taken care of. Last year my father in-law passed at the VA hospital in Albuquerque and Audie made sure my meds were filled there.

Botched triple hernia surgery, within a week I went to the ER leaking pus & blood from wound site, waited 10hrs to be referred back to general surgery, ended up needing emergency surgery within a week resulting in wound clinic visits once a week for about 6 months. Over medicated to the point of toxicity for approx 1yr, I thought the symptoms were from diabetes until it got so bad I had to try getting an appointment with my PCP which is like pulling teeth. ETC, ETC, ETC. No wonder Veterans are blowing their brains out in VA Hospital parking lots. It is getting worse there than going to the Middle East 3X. I am starting to think I will have a heart attack & die from the stress of dealing with the VA before my multiple health issues kill me.

Currently waiting to be see in the ER. Checked in at 9:32pm it is now 12:59 amand I have yet to be seen. Many individuals that have come in after me have been seen yet I am still waiting, told the Attendant I am in a tremendous amount of pain yet I am still waiting. Beginning to think it is due to my race, the individuals like me that have been waiting around the time frame as me are all people of color. The ones that have come in after us and are already back we re nit people of color. This is America at its finest 3 hours and still counting, black man who served his country and was disabled waits because his race.

If I could give a negative amount of stars I would...

If I could give a negative amount of stars I would. I hate this place with a passion. My dear father was left to languish in triage for 5 hours while he slowly died from sepsis. He was told less than 48 hours prior that he had flu and to go back home, he would get over it. He goes back that afternoon around 1 pm, they tell him he has pneumonia, but they don't rush to treat him despite him being 67 and showing signs of going downhill fast. Breathing trouble, mottled skin, changes in mental state. No urgency whatsoever despite family members pleading with the nurse and doctor to please come help him quickly. His organs failed and he was pronounced dead at 6:10 pm. We were left sobbing and devastated while staff all around us laughed and continued about their jobs. So very disgusting that this former Marine who served in Vietnam was treated this way. I miss my dad every day. I hope that one day the nurse(s) and doctor(s) who "tended" to him feel the same pain and anguish we have.

My name is Michelle Lawton. I went to the emergency department yesterday for issues related to my grossly high blood pressure. This was my first time visiting this location. The place was very clean. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional. I received a change in my blood pressure medicine in hopes that it will improve before my followup with my primary care doctor. I left there feeling great knowing the changes made for my blood pressure med may improve my health 10,000 times over. The goal is to not having to seek emergent care all the time and that is with living a healthy lifestyle. Without hesitation, if I need to visit a hospital, I have no problems visiting this location. Thanks so much.

I was standing in line Tuesday when I reached down to pick up something I dropped and fell after feeling really dizzy. Help was there literally within seconds, and I was wheeled to the ER or ICU. After I was hooked up to a monitor and fluid drip, I underwent several tests which showed no serious issues. Dr. Gonzalez was very thorough in asking about my health and habits with a great bedside manner, my nurse gave me a deserved scolding for not keeping sufficiently hydrated, and the Director of the Falls Dept., Lynn, led me down to the front of the line to get the shot I had been in line for hours before. I really can't think of one thing that didn't deserve a 5 out of 5. Thanks.

After waiting for almost two hours at the ER I had to leave without being able to see a doctor. Horribly sick, fever, sore throat and coughing my life out. I'll rather go to an urgent care than use this ER facility. Sad to see this kind of stuff.

After an initial negative experience I expressed my concerns and was very pleasantly surprised at how quickly management contacted me and took my input and asked me to try again. I did and the change was stunning.

It's a rare occurrence in today's world for organizations such as the VA to show such care and take rapid corrective actions.

I have experienced incredibly great care at the VA in Bloomington and Indianapolis Indiana for many years and it's very encouraging to see the VA facility in San Antonio demonstrate the same capability.

I have been given different diagnoses for the same...

I have been given different diagnoses for the same problem. A couple doctors were running late before my appointments and it felt like they made the time up on me. They completely couldn't see an obvious deformity. Primary Care and an Orthopedic surgeon. Primary care from Frank Tejeda told e I had a sprain. Which I read online you can't confirm with just a x-Ray which was all they did. At some point that doctor even said to me "I don't know." A sprained shoulder didn't even match all my symptoms like issues with my right bicep. They were running behind that day and my appointment was short. The Orthopedic Surgeon wanted to talk to me about arthritis and I'm 34 and they were also running behind and my appointment was short. They brought in a specialist after that visit and that person saw the deformity like my family and the occupational therapist they had me see. The specialist agreed with the occupational therapist. The occupational therapist kept asking questions about my personal life which had nothing to do with why I was there and got rude a few times. I stopped seeing her. Thus the problem has been going on for over 6 months. Have an MRI scheduled (2nd for the same issue) and show up on time. Nobody there to check in with. Someone finally shows up and I go to the MRI waiting room. Those of there were waiting for a while and trying to figure out if there s anyone to see us. Someone finally comes and helps people that got there after me one at a time. It took them a while. But at least they were seen. He told me I was waiting on a different person. At that point I had enough. Just try and reschedule I guess. I never even saw the other person I was supposed to see. Time to contact my congressman.

Veterans rule...even of you do think that the VA hospital is slow or outdated. Just remember that it is free...just like this Great country we got lucky enough to have been born in. So the wait can be a little long at times, my wife pays a lot for her insurance and waits just as long as I do sometimes or even longer. So give the VA a break next time you're having to wait a bit...

The staff tries there best to serve. The facility manager on the other hand has lost its mind. The self parking is always ridiculously full while the valet section is almost always half empty. This leaves LARGE areas of parking unavailable unless you wait for the valet. And considering the level of hypervigilance most vets have, valet is not always the best option. Free up valet space!

Dissapointed with the VA care in South Texas, been using the VA for all my military related injuries for the better part of a decade and the department's at this VA refuse to take into account your medical records and what works. The advocates here don't care as long as the doctors not violating the law.

After I waited 6 hours, I had to leave without being seen. I asked a few times how much longer it was. First I was told 4 people ahead of me. 2 hours later 4 people still. Needless to say, people kept leaving. Somehow, with an almost empty room...hours later...I still had the same amount of people ahead of me. There were people in there that after 8-9 hours of waiting were leaving. What kind of service is this?

I just witnessed one of the worst and unsanitary m...

I just witnessed one of the worst and unsanitary medical experiences of my life. My boyfriend is a disabled vet and has been having pain and tenderness in his abdomen. As a result, I accompanied him to the VA hospital in San Antonio, TX aka Military City, USA. They promptly checked him in and then we waited for over an hour to be called back. Once we were called back, we were put into an examine room where we noticed a cup with someone s urine sample in it. I alerted one of the nurses it was in there, and after about 5 minutes someone came and got it. He did not acknowledge us or even apologize. Who knows how long it had been sitting there.

Another male nurse came in to the room without greeting us or giving us his name, told my boyfriend to have a seat so he can take his blood. He didn t ask his name or verify the vials matched his hospital ID bracelet. Even worse, he laid all the vials and other packages on the same table that the urine sample was sitting on. By the way, no one came to disinfect it.

But probably the worse thing, he did not put on gloves and proceeded to touch the needle with his bare hands and attempted to insert it into my boyfriend s arm. My boyfriend stopped him and asked him if he was going to put on gloves and he replied no. At that point, my boyfriend had enough and got up and left. Who knows how many blood samples or other bodily fluid samples if had handled throughout the day without wearing gloves.

I realize some people will say this is free healthcare but I disagree. We pay taxes to make sure our veterans get the healthcare they need and they paid for it with their service. My boyfriend was a Combat Engineer and has PTSD. Something they seemed to be clueless about considering they have access to all of his information.

It s truly embarrassing and sad that this is the care we think our veterans deserve. Instead of dealing with that, my boyfriend decided not to get the care he needed and just get used to the pain. I can see why so many of our veterans make the decision to not get care, and that s so sad.

I m especially embarrassed because we live in a military town. We claim to be so thankful for our veterans and military, yet this is how we treat them. There has to be a better solution for a system that is obviously broken. What an absolute disgrace.

The staff of the ISC CLINIC is absolutely amazing and I really appreciate them so much, I understand that my lack of planning and disorganized schedule is a my personal issue and not the staff problem, but they still take all the time needed to help me figure things out and then makeing sure I understand what I need to do and when I need It. 5 Stars doesn't seem to be enough I would easily give more if it were possible because I am so grateful that the people at this hospital. I truly would be in bad situation or worst if it was not for the standard if care I have received from the ISC CLINIC staff at Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio this is just my own personal experience and I have only received care with the VA since leaving active duty. With that being said I don't know a lot about the system as a whole but what I have experience is pretty awesome.

Honestly, I don't know where to begin with this place. If your looking for sub par treatment and horrible attitudes from multiple VA employees then this is the place to go. Also the fat white guy that is a triage nurse in the ER is completely unprofessional and doesnt know his job. I'm lucky I made it out alive.

If you can get to a doctor, care is pretty good, but the administrative hurdles and procedures are so infuriating that you need a mental health consult for rage issues by the time you receive serivice. It is health care by Emergency Department...the only way to get in sometimes.

The problem is not the doctors, nurses or even the line-level staff...whoever is in CHARGE and the "yes-men & women" 2 or3 levels down, who allow the system to run off the rails, while somehow "meeting performance goals", are to blame.

I have always received excellent service at the San Antonio Audie Murphy VA Hospital. We are lucky to have the VA services that are lacking at other VA hospitals. My experience has been with the emergency facilities and the Dermatologist department.

I also visit the North Central Federal Clinic for healthcare when needed and for my twice a year checkup. The staff at North Central are the best. The team I'm assigned to take care of me by sending a reminder of when it is time to come in for my 6 month checkup. I also have access to them via phone or e-mail. On e-mail, they always respond in a timely manner.

Brought my brother here who had acute head pain (not a headache) still here 3 hours later after shift change and I literally just watched a lady add "heart" and "love" stickers in the window. A guy I didn't even know was on the floor and no one blinked an eye, my brother ended up getting in before him after I had to get upset with 4 people. There was an awful lot of laughter coming from the desk for so many people to be in pain in the lobby. Garbage service, Lousy Hospital.

EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE. Since I've been a veteran in 2000, I've been assigned to four other VA facilities throughout the country and none of them have been this exceptional with their level of care and service as the staff at Audie Murphy. The SCI unit staff and Prosthetics, in particular, always go above and beyond to meet my health care needs. If I could give them 10 stars I would.

The hospital doctors are all amazing here, they were really quick finding out my diagnosis when I was extremely sick. But from my experience there, I hope other veterans receive the best of care there.
