My husband had a grueling dental appt this morning (which he walked to from our home nearby because we don't have a car. Afterwards, he stopped by the local spot we like to bring our two young kids to and play sometimes. It is a piece of land I think owned by the neighborhood HOA. He wanted to pick some of the fresh home grown grapes on the property, because they were in abundance. We are low on funds until payday. Our kids love fruit! He found two volunteers from the Atlanta Community food bank there picking fruit to take away in their van. Nervously, but boldly, he approached and began to pick a few too. The female volunteer rudely said: "I already picked that one.". Then she called over her male subordinate to basically intimidate my husband into leaving. My husband told them that we are well below the poverty line and a good family. He smirked and said, " These are for the food bank.". My husband called them crooks softly and walked off.

THIS IS A FOOD BANK THAT WON'T ALLOW A NEEDY MAN TO TAKE A BIT OF FOOD. I am ashamed to live in a world where an incident like this happens. If you want to help people, don't volunteer here. All sell and self-aggrandisement, no service to community.

Sadly, ACFB never returned my calls or emails so me and a group of volunteers were never able to volunteer with them. I had contacted them well in advance to schedule my group, but I was not so much as told they couldn't schedule us for any of the four dates I provided, just radio silence. I had so wanted to get involved with an organization that I had heard was doing so many great things! You can't ignore interested volunteers, even if there is a lot of volume - at least let them know that you don't need them at this time. I first contacted them in August of 2017 and now it is 2018 with no response at all, to both emails and voice mails that I left. It shouldn't be so difficult to get involved!

I volunteered here for a work event. The crew here is great!

First, you go through a short meeting explaining how to check the food and discard the bad or prohibited items.

Second, the food checking and packing process goes pretty quick once you get started. The two hours for my shift went fast!

Overall, I really enjoyed my shift and I got to see what happens to get the donated food to the public.

The host that introduces everyone to the facility is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I enjoyed her passion, charisma, and energy. She was very informative and motivational! The facility was nice and well organized. I really enjoyed volunteering and being a part of the mission. I think that it is a very humbling experience. More people should volunteer and strive towards ending the hunger in our communities.

Disappointed with volunteer opportunity. After scheduling a day off work to volunteer and signing up at Atlanta Community Food Bank, I waited at designated distribution center and no one showed up. After several phone calls, was finally able to get a hold of a food bank employee who said they forgot to show up for the volunteers. Also stated that even if a staff member showed up, they didn't have any work for us anyway. Wish that if the food bank was asking for volunteers they could be a bit more organized and actually utilize volunteers.

What a great place to volunteer your time. The regular volunteer staff were so great to work with and everything was very organized. Orientation and instructions were very clear. Can't wait to go back, especially once you move off of Camp Creek. Keep up all the great work you are doing!

About Atlanta Community Food Bank

Atlanta Community Food Bank: Fighting Hunger in America

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community since 1979. The organization's mission is to end hunger in America by providing food assistance to those who need it most. With over 700 partner agencies, the Atlanta Community Food Bank serves 29 counties in Georgia, including metro Atlanta and north Georgia.

The organization's vision is a hunger-free America where everyone has access to nutritious food. To achieve this goal, the Atlanta Community Food Bank works tirelessly to provide food assistance to those who are struggling with hunger. The organization distributes over 60 million meals each year through its network of partner agencies.

One of the key programs offered by the Atlanta Community Food Bank is its Kids In Need program. This program provides nutritious meals and snacks for children who may not have access to regular meals outside of school hours. Through this program, children receive backpacks filled with healthy snacks and easy-to-prepare meals that they can take home on weekends and holidays.

Another important program offered by the Atlanta Community Food Bank is its Mobile Pantry Program. This program brings fresh produce and other healthy foods directly into communities that lack access to grocery stores or other sources of fresh food. The Mobile Pantry Program serves over 100 locations each month, providing much-needed nutrition for families in need.

In addition to these programs, the Atlanta Community Food Bank also offers a variety of services designed to help individuals and families overcome poverty and achieve self-sufficiency. These services include job training programs, financial education classes, and assistance with accessing government benefits like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program).

The impact of the work done by the Atlanta Community Food Bank cannot be overstated. In addition to providing essential nutrition for those who are struggling with hunger, their programs also help improve health outcomes for individuals and families living in poverty.

If you're interested in supporting this important work or learning more about how you can get involved with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, there are many ways you can help! You can make a donation online or sign up as a volunteer at one of their many locations throughout Georgia.

In conclusion, if you're looking for an organization that is making a real difference in fighting hunger in America while also helping individuals overcome poverty through education and job training programs - look no further than the Atlanta Community Food Bank!
