Recently had a screening mammogram and from the initial check in to the check out, the staff and clinicians were friendly and professional. They have also improved their billing problems from a while ago as I experienced no problem this time (though my mother did several years ago) and as expected, it was covered by insurance. My results were mailed to me and my primary physician in a very timely manner.

Fraud fraud and fraud. I made an appointment there over 2 months ago for a CT scan. As time got closer, I decided I would look into other places that would do the same thing and for cheaper and a lot better. And they did. Asheville oncology and hematology which is excellent did the scan and the services provided. Asheville radiology charged me for services not even rendered.
Like others that have posted, I was presented with an outlandish bill 6 mo after being paid by both Medicare and secondary insurance. I had to go online for chat to inquire after "undisclosed " charges the agent of secondary insurance said were there. After 5minutes waiting for chat agent to find answer, I was told my balance was $0 and I could disregard the bill. So, I guess what you do is call your insurance and then confront the company to disclose the reasons for the charges. I have Medicare Supplement InsurNce from Mutual of Omaha -- I LOVE it!
My husband is a veteran and the VA sent him to Asheville Radiology Associates. Asheville Radiology Associates sent my husband a bill 10 months after services. I was in the process of getting this bill paid with the VA when Asheville Radiology Associates turned it over to a collection agency. Shame on you Asheville Radiology Associates for ruining a veterans good credit.
After my insurance claim was processed, they sent me a bill asking me to pay the difference despite the pricing contract they have with BCBSNC. I had to contact BCBSNC to get them to contact ARA to resolve the matter at which point it was fixed immediately. On a second claim, the claim was rejected because the subscriber id was wrong. Once again, they were asking me to pay in full as opposed to trying to correct a rejected insurance claim. I called them and verified the ID number and they suggested I contact my insurance company to find out why it was denied, even though they already had the answer. I again called BCBSNC and had them contact ARA at which point they said the subscriber id was wrong and it has been updated now. Why this couldn't have been done with me the first time is unexplainable. If you enjoy being the middleman between their incompetent billing office and your insurance company, this is your place. Though I'm sure none of us have a choice in this matter as they're contracted with the hospital.
2 months ago, we took our son in for an ultrasound. Yesterday, we get a call out of blue saying we owe a past due balance of $78, and that the bill has been sent to collections.
We told them we'd paid the bill weeks ago, and showed them the credit card receipt. The payment processed 3 days after we received the invoice.
Like a gatekeeper trained to tell a salesperson their owner is in a meeting, the lady goes right into, "sorry, our computer system is down right now, I need to look into this and call you back."
Them telling us we'd been reported to collections was the first interaction we'd had with this business since we walked out of the office in January. They made no prior attempts to contact us. Not a piece of mail. Not a phone call.
Several hours later, we get a call back saying the oversight happened because the woman who called "doesn't really talk to the billing department." How is that a reasonable excuse for mistakenly telling someone they'd been reported to collections?
By the way, she also said it HADN'T ACTUALLY gone to collections, but to "extended billing," and that she calls it "collections" because people don't know what extended billing means.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that using the word "collections" is a very effective way to scare and coerce people into attention and action.
I hope they're an LLC, because when you loosely toss around the word "collections," especially when you're wrong, you expose yourself to potentially significant legal liability. It's like yelling "fire" in a crowded theater. The real "collections" is a whole different can of worms that has serious legal and financial ramifications. This isn't a game.
I told the lady this, and her disinterested patronizing reached a whole new level: "Uh huh. Uh huh. Yes, I'm typing up an email right now to our operations manager."
There's a long line of reviews from people complaining about their billing department, so it begs the question: Is Asheville Radiology Associates intentionally trying to see how many people they can trick into paying their bills twice? Who's to say this isn't intentional?
Most likely, this is just another example of a wealthy business that is desperate to put an inordinate amount of attention and resources into collecting money and preventing loss because they're paranoid over losing a penny of the obscene amount of money they already have. God forbid they use those resources to actually have their $#&% together as a business on the front end.
It's like how Wal-Mart has 3 people standing near exits and self-checkout kiosks to make sure nobody's stealing instead of using 2 of those people to actually check people out and provide customer service. They'd rather have lines 7 deep than risk someone stealing an 88 cent candy bar.
Needless to say, the cowardly excuses and lack of accountability through shameless weaseling and lip service are more than enough reason for me to to never set foot in this business again.
Like others have stated, their billing is horrible. I've never received a bill from them, had no idea that I owed anything. All of a sudden I get an email from the credit monitoring company saying that I had a new collection. I immediately logged in, and saw that the collection agency wanted $38.00. Had I ever received a bill, I would have paid it immediately. This collection dropped my credit score, and I am angry.
Dr. Ralston is an absolute gem! I was incredibly nervous about having two biopsies. Dr. Ralston went above and beyond to make my experience 5 stars! She took her time to explain everything to me with kindness and compassion! She answered all of my MANY questions and helped ease my mind. I would give her 10 stars if I could! Her supportive staff during my appointment was also top notch! Thank you all for making my experience such a good one!
After paying Mission for my MRI, I received a call from their outsourced billing department saying I have a balance and would I like to go ahead and pay it over the phone. Mind you, I had not (and have yet to) even received a bill and had no idea about this balance. I asked for an actual bill and they sent me a computer screen printout that basically just lists my balance with no other information. There is no way to talk to anyone with Asheville Radiology Associates about your account.
Requested an invoice four times, and never received one and never did find out what I was being billed for. Then the charges were referred to a collection agency. Sleazy.
I went to pardee my husband paid the bill then i got a random bill from asheville radiology when i've NEVER went there. Now a bill collector on my ass for NO reason. Screw this place.
I am FURIOUS! My mother has had a cardiac MRI scheduled since March 14th for today, April 23rd. She called this morning before her appointment to verify the address, and thank god she did because her appointment was cancelled! No one called or emailed her to tell her this, and if she hadn't called them first she would have driven over 2 hours to their office for nothing. They tried to tell her the MRI was denied by her insurance, but her insurance company says the office didn't even send the request for authorization until April 20th and it would be approved by the end of the day. But after waiting a month and a half for an appointment, she now has to wait another month before they can get her back on the schedule!
They took over a month to contact her insurance company, cancelled her appointment due to their own hold up, and didn't even bother to call and tell her she was removed from the schedule! They offered her no empathy whatsoever. I understand that things are stressful due to COVID, but this is unacceptable. She's not getting an MRI for laughs, she needs to know what is wrong with her heart! I expect that my mother will be treated with absolute consideration and courtesy during her May 20th appointment, but I am encouraging her to seek imaging elsewhere in the future.
This review is in regard to the billing practices at Asheville Radiology. I got a call from them saying I hadn't paid my bill. I had never received a bill. I told them that on the phone then gave them my credit card number to pay the bill. Thought it was taken care of. Then months later, I get a letter from a collection agency about it. It's impossible to call Asheville Radiology now to speak about billing. I'm sent to something called MSN where you have two options: email or online chat. The person on the online chat was not helpful. Now I have to deal with a collection agency for a bill that 1) I never received in the mail and 2) I paid via phone.
Horrible! Billing is unreal, they want you to pay online?? A real joke! Of course, they are now owned by Mission so what do you expect. Patient can request other companies to do your scans, mams, etc. Pardee is wonderful and my sister drives to Greenville, LOL! People at front desk are rude, makes you feel like cattle!
Well, now you must go to Mission hospital to get a copy of a CT that was done in Fletcher. How convenient for the patient. Mission your changes in policy to help the community are astounding. When will you finally really make it convenient for patients?
I am 73 YO and have had back problems with increasing pain for years. After a consultation with Dr Hodges I had a nerve ablation procedure with great results and am able now to walk miles instead of short blocks! Scheduling was convenient. Michelle, the technician, was friendly and answered all of my questions. Dr. Hodges informed me of what to expect and all has gone accordingly. Highly recommended!
The worst. Sent a bill by email, no account number provided. I do not do financial transactions on-line. Unable to get anything like a human being, just recorded lies saying they 'value your business and know your time is important' while ignoring you totally. Keep pushing on-line payments, never will get a person to help with anything. Reading other comments, it is clear this is a pathetically unprofessional organization, at least with regard to their tone-deaf and unhelpful billing structure. Truly pathetic.
As far as the staff and experiance went during my procedure, I cannot complain.
The billing side and "Mission Hospital" money grabbing mentality is what is sickening. Although my results were benign and I did not have to leave the facility knowing I had cancer, I can't help but feel for those that receive negative results and the negative demanding bill that comes thereafter.
Posted on the bill numerous times it stated "you are responsible." In the fine print the words are "YOU ALONE." Really? This is a facility that gives folks life changing news where they need support and care, but you are going to tell them they are responsible and alone? Give me a break.
I do not mind to pay my bill but the elderly man who was in obvious distress that I helped to the door opening "his bill" lingers in my mind. I understand that bills need to be paid so operations can continue and staff can be paid to support their families but find a way to not come off as such heartless cowards.
Billing department does not communicate with the rest of the organization. They attempted to involve a third-party collection agency to deal with a supposed outstanding balance that had been paid months ago. No notice of a problem, nothing beforehand until nearly half a year later, and then threatening third-party intervention. Business practices are deplorable and suggest serious internal problems. Would strongly advise against working with this organization.
Had a similar experience listed by others. Phone call out of the blue saying I owed them money. Told them I had no knowledge of the bill. Never received a bill. Was not interested and was simply "Well sir... You owe this"... Rule of thumb.. I never pay someone that calls out of the blue until I can verify and call them back. One of the most effective scams is by calling and saying you owe money and that it must be paid now.
If i could give them a zero I would. They were not helpful or kind or caring to my husband when he went to get an MRI last year and this year. They have been almost impossible to work with in getting his records sent to other facilities. Their billing department doesn't communicate with the rest of the organization so it's been impossible for me to pay them. I haven't talked to any one competent or helpful.
