Could not have been a worse experience. Fed us false information in order to get us to sign on, then immediately changed the terms. We were left unable to use the space and trapped in a contract. Zero assistance offered and fed a long string of excuses if not flat out ignored. 6 months wasted trying to resolve this and a load of money down the drain. For an agency that claims to support artists it's been a complete sham. Avoid at all costs.
I rent a studio in the new Croydon site. Brilliant space; warm, safe and a great community of artists. ASC studios are such a high standard compared to the past studios I've rented across London.
ASC is a great organisation proving affordable studios in London. My studio building is located in Bromley-by-Bow and is ideal to work and also to meet other artists. There is a project space within the building, accessibly to all residents, which proves to be an increasingly lively art and social hub with exhibitions and events happening throughout the year.
Kingston ASC opened in 2013 i believe. I was one of the first artists who moved into one of the downstairs studios together with two artist friends of mine. We had our eyes set on one of the beautiful spaces upstairs which have lots of light and when one of them became re-available we moved in. There are only two of us which gives each plenty of space and we are very happy there. ASC look after us really well and whenever there is a technical problem they look into it without delay. We have joined forces with a local group of artists and every year in June we organise open studios together which is getting more popular every year.
Good place fairly central for artists, wide variety of size rooms to rent. Quite expensive
A really lovely community of artists, hugely diverse practices, open studios are always fun!
We love our neighbours ASC! Great affordable studios for artists and designers and a gallery with an exciting rolling programme of contemporary art exhibitions that's always worth a visit!
Excellent organisation , friendly and very responding team, this is an amazing artists studio company for an affordable and reliable experience.
As a newcomer I am delighted to be part of the ASC community. My studio mates and I are very happy as we settle into our lovely, brightly lit, affordable studio, complete with hot water and heating, right on the canal in Alperton.
Worst art studio landlords. The ASC management won't protect vulnerable female artists from predators within their own studios.
I have been renting a studio in the Bow site for over two years now. I have found ASC to be supportive and informative, and the studios to be warm, safe and a great community of artists. The studios and communal areas are clean and bright and well maintained. As an artist and freelance photographer, at the outbreak of Covid-19 I lost all of my freelance work- 75% of my income. ASC has worked hard to secure funding which allows it to in turn to support its artists. I have been lucky enough so far to have benefitted from three of the four 'Hardship Funds' and hope to secure more support until life and work is able to get going somewhere near what we knew as 'normal.' I would have most definitely lost my studio had it not been for these hardship funds and in turn not been able to do much of my freelance work. I am grateful for the support ASC has given me before during and continues to give me as one of its artists.
One of the best studios i've had in a great location with heating and natural light, at an affordable price
I have had an ASC studio for 6 years. I was delighted when ASC opened the Kingston studios because I both knew the organisation and its reputation and because the new studio is local to me, meaning a daily walk to the studio rather than a commute. An opportunity to be part of a community of artists is a great privilege. The studios were built within an old furniture factory and there are various sized and aspected studios -each with its own character and amenity. There is wi-fi and heating included in the rent, though the spaces are hard to heat in the deepest winter. I am very happy to be able to have a studio, and to be a part of ASC. The people who work for the company and the gallery are lovely to deal with, always helpful and they do try to solve any problems with the studios quickly and as they arise . ASC is an active contributor to the community through its gallery outreach work and through its annual 'Open Studio' commitment. Their monthly newsletteris great, and helps keep their artists alert to exhibition opportunities and any other related events, and is really welcome. You get more than just a studio with ASC, you get a sympathetic and understanding group of people who are supporting you in your art life choices as well.
Emails ignored, totally unprofessional. Was promised the studio space would be improved before signing the contract but all work to achieve this was ignored. Left on great terms, thanks so much!
Artist Studio Company are a friendly, approachable team with a range of affordably priced studios all around London. The ASC Gallery has a great programme of shows throughout the year and Private Views are always worth going to!
I've been a past studio holder with ASC and also worked with them on two exhibitions at their gallery. I couldn't recommend them more highly - a great organisation that is very supportive of artists both as studio holders and those who exhibit with them. Darren O'Brien, the curator, is incredibly generous, both in terms of his openness to ambitious/ challenging work and his time and energy. Julia Rees is also very supportive. Charities like ASC contribute a huge amount to London's grass roots art scene.
I have been renting a studio at the ASC Bow site for the past few months and I have had such a wonderful experience. It is without fail the best studio I have ever rented in London. ASC have been incredibly generous, supportive and attentive to the needs of the artists that have been financially affected by the pandemic. I have been lucky enough to receive the hardship funds they have offered, so I have had half price studio rent, which has been a huge relief. They have provided artists with lots of information about other help we might be eligible for, they really do care about their tenants. There is a great sense of community, the communal areas are very well maintained and clean, the building is nice and warm and I am so happy with my painting studio. There is a project space we can use too. The staff are very kind and always so prompt with any queries I might have, for instance I requested an extra light in my painting studio and it was done immediately and I was even given the option of a daylight bulb if I so preferred.
Lovely people running this place which has frequent small exhibitions open to all. They are very community minded and co-operate with local charities and community organisations. A wonderful resource for local & notable artists.
