Good selection of all kinds of outdoor equipment with patient knowledgeable staff. Drove two hours just to take advantage of their services.

At a recent visit, the associates took extra time to work with me to help choose a backpack. They are very knowledgeable and worked with me to choose the right size and then took time to make sure the fit was right and I knew how to use it. All associates are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful every time I shop there. And the prices are right in line with what I see on other websites. I am so happy the store is close enough to visit in person. Thanks for such awesome customer service.

This place made me feel like a criminal. Placed an online order and got no email confirmation. Followed up and was told the website had a cyber attack, and so my order was mistakenly cancelled as fraudulent. Was told I'd get a follow-up call to resolve, and I did not. When I emailed, I was told I'd have to re-order the items...fine, but one of the items was then almost double the original price. I emailed to request the original price be honored but never heard from them again. I've never had so much trouble trying to give a retailer money.

Friendly and incredibly knowledgeable staff, great selection of all kinds of gear, great prices as well. There's a reason they bought out the Eddie Bauer next door years ago.

Exellent service. Employees were all eager to help you find something or even offer advice. The selection of backpacking gear is great. The quality brands they carry are offered at competitive pricing. Why buy from online retailers when you could shop here. I will go back and definitely recommend.

Apparel, footwear and anything you could possibly need for your outdoor or travel adventures can be found there, all under one roof. If they don't have it, they can get it, also, check out their website for great deals.

Bought a really great North face 42L backpack. There is definitely a lot of selection, and the sales staff are knowledgeable and helpful. But a little more pricy; bit that expected, price of service.

Top notch gear, apparently hand selected by the owners and staff. My only quibble is that if you're a big guy, like me, you might be out of luck with some of the fitting. That's an industry-wide problem, though, and not to blame this well-run establishment.

Complete scammers! Appalachian Outdoors will take your order, take your money, and then never deliver. Have repeatedly tried to get a refund for missing and wrong items but emails are not replied to and phone calls end up with reps hanging up on you. No matter how good the deal looks, it is worthless if you don't get what you ordered. If the price is too good to be true then it likely is a scam. Don't make the mistake I did - avoid these crooks!

Bought a coat here. They've got a big selection and it's a home town place. I looked up a competitor price and the guy gave me about ten percent off. Love the coat. Will go back if i need another. Good folks great selection.

I went in looking to buy hiking boots for the first time in my life and the staff was so helpful with sizing, and advice on which brands would be good for me and my skill level. They sell quality clothing, so I always feel good about buying from them. They are a little pricey, but everything they sell is worth paying the extra money.

I ordered a Patagonia jacket for 40% less than everywhere else I checked. Because I was getting it at such a deep discount, I was
nervous. Not only did the store call to confirm the shipping address, but it also arrived before promised! Excellent customer service!

I live in Utah and was looking everywhere (in store and online) for a particular color sweater. Couldn't find it anywhere and then in my searching I saw Appalachian Outdoors had it on their website. I immediately ordered it and received a call asking about the order to insure there was no fraud (having an account different from my address location i Utah). I greatly appreciately the fact that they did this and I received the order in 48 hours. Such fast service and great customer service! Wish I knew about this place when I actually lived in PA. Definitely support local shops!

Don't order from Appalachian OUtdoors unless you want to be charged for items not in stock and not refunded for your purchase. And good luck talking to someone to correct the problem. Either no one will answer or they will tell you to call back later if you are lucky enough to get someone on the phone. I am filing a fraud claim with my CC company in hopes of recovering the money taken by Appalachian Outdoors for product I never recieved.

I am moving out of State College soon and this store is one of things I'll miss the most. Friendly, knowledgable staff with great products, wide variety, and a great relationship with the community. First Fridays here are the best, and they have interesting speakers and shoe demo events on a pretty regular basis. My go-to for hiking boots, trail running shoes, outdoor apparel, maps, camping equipment, trail food, ski gear, backpacks...I am always looking for an excuse to wander in.

I am very impressed with this company. The shipment arrived on time and was very well packaged to ensure the items were not damaged in transit. Not every company goes above and beyond to make sure items are packed correctly for shipment. I know it takes extra time and there is an added cost for the additional packaging. The fact that this company/shipping department made this added effort is greatly appreciated and I will definitely place more orders with them in the future.

I made an order from this company that supposed to get shipped next day per conversation with them.

Three days later I have to call them and ask why don't I see the shipment. They acknowledged the mistake and it was shipped the same day.

Two days later shipment arrived (Wednesday 2nd half of the day) and one of the items arrived was not the one I ordered.

My vacation starts on Fri night, so I called them on Wednesday and explained the situation.

They offered to return the wrong item for refund and only than they can send correct one which will be only after my vacation. Receiving correct item after vacation that supposed to be used during vacation - had no point.

I asked them if I can pay separately for the correct item and deal with wrong item later while sending correct item overnight, they answer was - it won't arrive on time. Find it elsewhere. I ironically asked if overnight item sent on Thu won't arrive on Fri, the answer was - it won't arrive on time. Eventually, I was told that we are going in circles and phone call was ended on their end.

I understand sometimes people make mistakes and may send wrong items. I understand this company is not Amazon and can't correct mistakes in the same fashion fast. But what is not alright is rudeness - hanging the phone, avoiding the answers and making fool of people.

You got to realize nowadays you can't get out from such behavior unnoticed. And I want to put you on notice.

If you need winter gear, this is the best place in central Pennsylvania; diverse staff with awesome experience in hiking, snowboarding, skiing, you name it. Very wide selection of excellent gear, I strongly recommend Appalachian Outdoors to anyone in need of anything from a rain jacket to a pocket knife, a good set of boots to a hiking pack, skiis to mountain climbing equipment.

Great prices, very friendly service. Bought skis here a few months ago. The guy I talked to helped me pick out the right gear for someone with my skill level and made sure I got everything I needed. Plus they gave me a bundle deal so I got skis, bindings (with free installation with the bundle), boots, Poles, and a helmet, and all great quality products, for just under $1000 after taxes. That's an amazing price for what I got

very overpriced and expensive, have great products and great items to browse and peak your interest. Do not buy anything here. You can find the same products elsewhere for so much cheaper, but Appalachian provides good service and a good place to browse for those who dont want to buy fully online

This was the best customer service I've ever had. The staff actually listened to what I liked/disliked about my old gear and recommended the perfect stuff. (And it wasn't to upsell me). I dealt with three different guys and they were all amazing. They also took the time to answer questions about local trails and such. The store is expensive, but the service definitely makes it worth it.
