Being in Harlem in front of the Apollo Theater and having the body shivering with intense chills is one. Place that saw singers like Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Sarah Vaughan and many others

Historic place in the heart of Harlem where the real stars of music were born. Like the pearl of cinema in Hollywood, here too are the stars on the sidewalk with the famous names born here. It is worth a visit and those who have the opportunity since then there has been an evening of emerging ones that the public can whistle freely.

I saw the amateur night but it was really fun.
"What is entertainment?"

In addition, the surrounding area was safer than I expected, and I enjoyed it normally.

An incredible and historic location--well worth the price for the tour with the manager who worked with all the stars. Seriously, folks, if you can think of a famous person, this guy worked with them. The tour is charming, but my favorite part was performing in the mini "amateur night" that everyone gets to be a part of. Totally fun! Standing on the stage of all those greats--it's a special opportunity that I'll remember as a highlight of my NYC excursions for years to come.

I loved it, truly unforgettable. Amateur night on Wednesday was the first time for us. We had a great time.
For those a little sensitive to the level of the ears, consider taking plugs, it's a bit strong.

It was honestly so magical just walking inside. I went on a class trip during black history month. The play itself made me laugh, cry, and leap with joy. The sheer amount of history you feel from just walking in is almost overwhelming.... Almost. The people working there are just so nice and welcoming. Although the woman's bathroom is very small, can't say much about the men's never really been in there, I wouldn't want to change anything. It old and classic. Let's not forget the chandelier. The whole place just oozes regality.

I haven't been to the Apollo since I was a child, I'm now 40. I remember the place being much bigger. Unfortunately for me, I've grown to be a 6'7" 245lb man. The seats had less legroom than Shubert, Wintergarden or any other Broadway or Herald Sq theatre. Also, just pay the extra money for floor seating. If you're anything over 6' you'll be forced to stand the entire time to see if you aren't on 3 thre front of the mezzanine sections. Even if the people ahead of you are short. The ceiling is low slung, so you have a limited view of the stage. To the venues credit, it seems the artists are informed of this viewing issue and perform closer to the front of the stage than most venues. The drink line was horrendous, 30 min standing on line just to get a drink. They absolutely need more vendor space, which is obviously difficult to do in a historic location with limited options. Just keep this in mind when buying tix, if you're tall you may need to spring for the floor seats. Save yourself the agony.

Was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I had been there when I was younger but my wife wanted to see it. Everyone there was so nice from the staff at the front door to the people working behind the bar to the ushers. The DJ was great he got the party started then a man came out to sing and he was just as great. The band was outstanding the music sounded great the crowd was appreciative and the amateur night was amazing. Capone was a perfect person to MC the Night and he started out with crowd participation and went on to being hilarious. One of the best experiences of my life. It's great to be a African American! #PRIDE

The theater where legends performed! We attended a youth dance competition. The the venue is a decent size are seats weren't great but we could still see the stage clearly. It was very clean also
The only thing it could have been a little cooler inside. If you have the opportunity to go do it!

Amateur night at the Apollo. The compare was really bad (self indulgent old jokes) and took up all of the time. There were 5 acts, there could have been 15 in the time. Sorry a really poor night out. Please change the format. Also leaving the theater was really dangerous. There was a crush and it took more than 15 min to move from the theater.

Classic venue in NYC. All the greats have either gotten their start here, or played to show respect for the power and history of the place. This time around, I was at the Weird Al Yankovic concert. Emo Philips opened for him, and it may have been the nerdiest audience that ever graced the space.
To review the place, it's reminiscent of a Boradway show theater space. Great stage and interior design. Orchestra, Mezzanine, and balcony seats available. All of them are smaller than an airplane seat. Check your coats, you won't have room at your seat.

The last shoe I saw at the Apollo was about 40 years ago. Thru wall of Fame was gone, plus the Apollo no longer hosts a lot of headline shows. I saw an NPR interview podcast taping. The theater is, however cleaner than it used to be, and has a much better sound system. Despite that, the spirit of the venue as an R&B music mecca is definitely gone.
