It's a must visit on anyone's NYC bucket list. A historic theater in the heart of Harlem. Doesn't matter where you sit, you have a great view of the stage. Showtime at the Apollo with Steve Harvey hosting is magic! (Be aware any free events will have a very long line but it's definitely worth it once you're inside.)

The Apollo Theater is a landmark located on 125th Street. The theater occupies an important place in the heart of Harlem, both literally and figuratively; built in 1914, it has served as a showcase for countless show biz greats, from Ella Fitzgerald to James Brown to Stevie Wonder, some of whom got their big break by appearing in its storied Amateur Night competitions (which is still held on Wednesdays); while taking in a show is the classic way to experience it, you can also check out the lobby or arrange for a group tour and make sure walk the area and visit others businesses (restaurants, etc) while in the area.

Went to audition with my brother(on the left) and we didn't even get a chance to step foot in the door because they had already picked who they wanted and they turned away hundreds maybe thousands of people in front and behind me. Auditions started at "10:30am" and we were there an hour early. But they let people in that camped out the night before. Very unprofessional. But there loss because there missing out on a lot of great talent, including myself.

The legendary Apollo is just that. I didn't see any performances but just being in the same building as all of the icons of music was an experience in itself. They have done a fabulous job of keeping the venue in shape. They offer tours but I just wanted to get some pictures and just check it out. The list of names of the stars that have been on this stage is a who's who of show biz. Next time I visit I'm gonna catch a performance on amateur night
