What a beautiful place. We were lucky to visit during the week during the covid-19 (June 2020). We only saw two other Western tourists and even the locals were far and few. A very quiet visit, Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Nice ancient town inside the forest which is not too far from Siem Reap town but need to take care of the waste
Phnom Kulen has major symbolic importance for Cambodia as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire, for it was at Phnom Kulen that King Jayavarma II proclaimed independence from Java in 804 CE. Jayavarman II initiated the Devaraja cult of the king,a linga cult, in what is dated as 804 CE and declaring his independence from Java of whom the Khmer had been a vassalage state (whether this is actually "Java", the Khmer chvea used to describe Champa, or "Lava" (a Lao kingdom) is debated, as well as the legend that he was earlier held as a ransom of the kingdom in Java. See Higham's The Civilization of Angkor for more information about the debate). During the Angkorian era the relief was known as Mahendraparvata (the mountain of Great Indra) crt wiki
We went to Kbal Spean of the park. It was a strenuous hike for me (about one hour up the mountain and another hour to come down). Brings lots of water to avoid heat stroke and dehydration. We went there in February, which was in the middle of a dry season and there was no water on the waterfall. And yes there was some carvings on the river bed rocks but they look just like those in the rest of the temples. If you like hiking, you should go for it.
It's really worth to go there especially if you like to swim in the waterfall. I loved it.
Also there is a temple and some other interesting stuff to see.
Amazing water abit cold but you don't feel it because of the adrenalin rush as you swim towards the waterfall.
Amazing place for Visiting beside Angkor wat Temple!
Wonderful place, waterfall. Amazing place for khmer people and tourist
Surely one of my favorite places in Cambodia. Been there numerous times and will keep going. This waterfall got its fame from the Tomb Raider movie witn Angelina Jolie, as one of the scenes was shot there. Great for some pic nic, a fresh swim or just enjoying a relaxing day next to the waterfall. A pagoda is close by, surely also worth a visit...
This is such a relaxing place to visit albeit a bit distant from the Angkor Wat temple. There are many villagers living there and they are very friendly.
To discover. Many locals. On Sunday there are many. This is worth the detour.
Nice Buddha on the top of a rock, nice waterfall and preserved from heavy tourism... Mainly because it is quite long and difficult to access...
This place provides a relaxing getaway along side with jaw striking discovery of the ancient ruined. Not only that, the amazing view of the waterfall created a scenery that is out of the ordinary. Totally recommend for anyone to visit if you wouldn t mind a couple of hours drive.
Feeling fresh n relax but don't go at Khmer new year cause every one will go there
I dislike the place. Too crowded and dirty. I went there for the hiking trail and it wasn t what I expected. As Kevin Kline would say : disappointed!!
Wonderful to walk in old growth forest to some stunning carvings with masses of butterflies everywhere, including on us!
Many interesting places to visit. Need motorbike to reach certain places
Spending 2 hours to reach the hill, tourist can go to Kulen mount where is at the north east of Angkor. This place is so famous for local visitors because of the water fall and the complex structure on stone on the hill. It was ever used to announce an independence from Java, Indonesia. Moreover, the water there is considered as holy water, and people like to bring water from waterfall at Kulen Mount. Actually, the source of this water flows into Tonle Sap, and this source is regarded as a blessing to the water ways in Cambodia.
Superb fall. A refreshing swim. Small poisons will come to nibble your feet.
