AMA Animal Rescue Review

We started fostering Spirit at the beginning of this pandemic and as first time pet parents taking on fostering a pet while also navigating this weird time, AMA made the process so easy while still be thorough. I m happy to say that we are finally adopting Spirit and giving her a forever home! We are so happy to have her in our lives. Thank you so much to AMA for giving Spirit a chance so that we had the opportunity to meet her and become her family!

When we found an injured Chihuahua hiding in an office building we didn't know who to turn to. Verg wouldn't take her pro bono and other animal rescues were already closed. The police were threatening to take her to the shelter unless we were willing to help her ourselves. AMA came to the rescue. I messaged them on Facebook and through email. Within a few minutes, I received a call from Anna. Per her instructions, we took the dog (Brownie) to Verg and she met us there. We later found out that Brownie had a lot of internal injuries and needed emergency surgery for a prepublic tendon rupture, body wall hernia, splenectomy, resection of the intestine, and general internal bleeding. Without AMA, the police would have taken Brownie and she wouldn't have made it through the night. AMA covered all expenses - over $8,000. They are paying for it through donations. So far, the cost exceeds the donations, but they saved Brownie without focusing on the cost. Unfortunately, we found Brownie's owner and she doesn't want her back. So, in addition to saving Brownie's life, they will be handling her adoption once she heals. I'm so grateful to AMA for saving Brownie and being the only ones available to help at a late hour. Without them, sweet little Brownie would not survive.

Reached out about a stray kitten I found with a serious eye infection. They offered to provide him free medical services, no strings attached - it was such a relief to find an organization who was willing to help me out as a foster. Highly recommend these folks.

In April 2016, my beloved duman Justice passed. Shortly after, my friends found a beautiful kitten named Justice on AMA's instagram and urged me to visit her at her foster. We bonded and I adopted baby Justice-Claire (2nd name added for her foster). AMA is an amazing operation.. from their rescue efforts and rehabilitation, to their protection and screening for the animals, and the adoption process itself. I am a volunteer at AMA where I socialize with the dogs and cats, clean their cages, feed them and take the dogs on walks, and I can say firsthand that AMA is an incredible place. AMA does so much good for animals in our community who are such sweet souls and so badly need shelter and care and love. Mariya and Anna are both so compassionate and organized, I couldn't think of anyone better to oversee volunteers, fosters and adoptions. If you are looking to do any of those things, this is the perfect place.

I am doing Community Service here at AMA Animal Rescue. They are very professional, reliable, continuously looking for new ways to make these mistreated animals feel comfortable until their forever home comes to them. The staff is very kind and always willing to work with you.

I adopted a cat from AMA Animal Rescue in March 2021. After trying to deal with another Brooklyn animal rescue that tried to get me to adopt a cat within 48 hours, I found AMA's thorough, transparent process a much better alternative. The process was a little slower than I had thought it would be as it took about a month to go through a house check, virtual meeting, and final adoption, I never felt like I was in the dark about anything and always had quick responses from the AMA staff, who are so passionate about their jobs and their animals.

I volunteered here and they are great! They give you a lot of education and background knowledge of the animals, and are open to having more volunteers to help! Love what they do!

AMA is an amazing animal rescue group and they truly care about animals. They tried everything possible to save the life of the dog I was fostering (she was very ill from years of neglect) and they will never give up on an animal if there is even a small chance of saving it s life. They also rescued the dog I adopted with them from a horrific situation and I am very grateful for their dedication to animal welfare. I m also very grateful that they brought my dog into my life.

Me and my sister love AMA Animal Rescue! They always rescue the really sick animals and help them so much. We did a fundraiser in my school for AMA Animal Rescue and gave the animals beds and toys and lots of treats for the animals! AMA is the best and our elementary school and all the kids love to help them each year. Also the animals are super cute if you want to adopt. Thank you AMA we love you!

We cannot exspress how incredible this entire experience with AMA has been. We adopted our newest family member from them and every step of the way they were there to accommodate and assist us. Even through these wild times they were there for us. There response times and consideration were beyond heartfelt. We absolutely plan to rescue again with AMA and you all should too!!!! AMA is one of the most caring rescue organizations for distressed animals I have ever seen. This organization will go thru the most difficult challenges to save an animal. The leadership under Ana and Maria have such passion for AMA and I know the money I give goes to the animals not overhead or high priced fundraisers. The annual fundraiser is a lot of fun great people, good drinks, fun night and in the end for the animals in need.

Highly recommended by me and my CRO at my company, this place unites new family members, gives these animals a home and excellent care. The organization is very well structured and I just have to say I love what AMA is doing.

AMA is an absolutely incredible and highly motivated animal charity that does amazing work with the most severe cases of animal abuse and neglect. Words can t express how grateful I am to this rescue and specifically to Anna. I reached out when I was unsure of how to help a dog in need and she graciously spent much of her time explaining the different options I had, giving me multiple contacts and resources to utilize. Because of her and AMA I have been able to place this dog in a safe and comfortable situation and have a plan in action of how to give her a forever home. The most caring and responsive organization. Maria is very quick to reply and help with finding the right homes for dogs and cats. AMA Animal Rescue has saved many lives of poor, mistreated animals. They always follow up on rescues to make sure their new home is a happy place.

AMA had also organized wonderful fundraising and adoption events that are educational, fun and serve a very great cause.

I adopted my gorgeous dog Emmy and my wonderful kitty Aziza from this organization. Emmy at first had a lot of behavioral issues and was high energy but AMA never gave up on her. She's now the light of my life. These volunteers truly care about the animals they help and will do anything to see them succeed and live happily in their furever homes.

Edit: I just adopted another cat from AMA Animal Rescue...her name is (formerly) Bambi and she was found with infected eyes that needed to be removed. Taking care of a blind kitten could have been really difficult but AMA provided lots of guidance and around the clock support when I had questions or concerns. They were quick to schedule vet appointments when Arya had some issues with her incision sites in the beginning and regularly checked in to see how we were doing. I am so glad that all three rescue animals I've adopted have been from AMA...I could not speak higher of this organization.

After fostering through AMA for the first time I knew this was a special group of people. They will do anything and everything in their power to give these animals the best life possible.

My dog was one of the first rescues of AMA!

The kill shelter they rescued him from didn t even bother displaying him due to how emaciated he was; they were just going to euthanize him. Yes, the dog was extremely malnourished, covered head-to-tail in fleas, had kennel cough, and was afraid of every single thing due to the trauma he experienced at the hands of his previous owners. AMA saw beyond all that - they rescued him and gave him a chance at life. I cannot express the words of gratitude I have for bringing this dog into my life. They were there every step of the way and still continue to offer me guidance... my dog is just a small example of the many animals they continue to help and do so in a selfless, loving, and professional manner.

We just adopted a sweet beautiful gentle doggie from AMA (Angels for Mistreated Animals) in Brooklyn! We can't say enough good things about all of the people at AMA. From start to finish they were so caring, professional, supportive and sincere about their cause to care for and help each pet find a forever home. One rarely finds an organization that acts with such integrity and compassion!

Our dog Bella was rescued from Puerto Rico where she was found alone wandering the streets and injured. She was rescued, brought to NY, and was given top notch, excellent medical care for illness, and surgery for her wounds. AMA spared no expense to get her back to good health. AMA gave her a new lease on life! Everyone from the two founders Anna and Mariya, our adoption coordinator Michelle, and all the medical team were truly amazing. So much was done, so much care taken, just so a beautiful little lost doggie could get well and have a forever home. We are so lucky to have her. Thank you AMA.

Where do I begin? These people truly are Angels, with a capital A. Mariya, Michele, Anna, along with the volunteers that work with this organization are incredible and do everything in their power for the well being and care of their animals. Not only are they kind people, they are impeccably organized and have the attention to detail that no other rescue has. I adopted my first pet, a pit mix puppy from them, and boy were they understanding of every little question and concern I had. Even the doctor(Dr. Weinstock) that they work with is better than any of the local vets I visited when I was concerned about something, or anything. She was thorough and went out of her way to ask specialists how to proceed if need be. I mean before my puppy was adopted, I was his foster and under my care he fractured his knee from jumping around excessively. When I told them that he was limping, Michele and Mariya made sure he had the first appointment he could on Monday; then when we found out he needed surgery, had it scheduled it to take place with a great surgeon the following morning. I was nervous and worried through the whole process, but when I say they held my hand through it all, I mean they carried my arms too. If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. Thank you AMA for all your hard work, love and support. You guys are the best!!!!

I m currently fostering with AMA and what they do for animals is beyond AMAzing !!! They really are passionate about saving animals and go to great lengths to ensure they receive the best care! Some of the transformation are astonishing! Fostering with them is such an great experience and a rewarding one too. Seeing the animals that were mistreated and neglected by cruel people go from being on the brink of death to thriving and happy is the most rewarding feeling in the world. If you haven t already, consider fostering or adopting from them. This is definitely a rescue that you should support.

AMA Animal Rescue is an organization that goes above and beyond. These girls are truly amazing and extremely caring. I recently adopted Teak, Yorkie terrier mix and couldn t be happier. Teak is the sweetest and lovable little boy. The girls made the adoption transition easy and stress-free for all parties. The staff and volunteers are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the personalities of each dog and are always willing to answer questions. It is apparent that they are there for the well-being of their animals and would do anything to put them in their perfect home! Highly recommended !

AMA Animal Rescue is amazing! They are very quick and helpful. I found a weak and thin kitten on the street. Unfortunately, my attempts to find a home for this kitten quickly were in vain. I contacted AMA and explained the situation. I sent them the pictures of the kitten and asked for help. One of their volunteers picked up the kitten from my place in an hour. I am so grateful to them for their kindness, generosity, sympathy and responsiveness! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING!

Really wonderful animal rescue! Miss Justice Claire is one of the cutest cats in town- so glad she found her "furever home" with a wonderful owner who treats her like a princess! :-)

What can I say...AMA is phenomenal!

I had been in the process of looking for/adopting a pet cat for a few months back in July and AMA was the most helpful and supportive through the process. If you are living in New York and need a recommendation for a top notch center which is methodical and involved in its process... look no further.

Through them I was able to adopt my very special friend Celeste, a mixed Persian cat. Celeste was actually coming from abroad and had a
troubled past. I was first involved with helping in fostering her, but through AMA's help and my genuine love for Celeste, I ended up adopting her. They helped with all the vet and record checks from Celestes' home country and her time here in the states. I am proud to say she is doing well, with Anna and Mariya catching up with us often to this day. This was my very first time adopting a pet and AMA made it easy for me, advising me and working with me through all of it. The best part...I felt like I was talking to friends the whole time! Anna and Mariya go out of their ways to make you feel comfortable and their volunteers are just as amazing!

AMA is a great resource for pet adoption who go above and beyond. They are strong at assessing individuals and give top priority to every animal in their care. They are patient with all the animal's needs and your needs as well. They will accommodate you even if you just have questions. Not mention their new facility in Brooklyn is exquisite.

I have fostered dogs with various groups in NYC for the past 2 years and AMA is definitely one of my fave. They're all great people, very efficient and fast to get back to you. They help saving animals with all the love you can imagine and have done some amazing rescues. I hope there will be a lot more ! Pictured is Pablo, a dog they rescued and that I fostered, on the day he arrived in my house. Thanks to AMA he gets a second chance to having a beautiful life :)

Ama is a great organization that truly cares about their pups and animals. This is my first time fostering with them and I took on two dogs that needed to be rehomed. They were very patient and helped me through the process of taking care of the dogs and providing them the best care possible. They were always there for the pups and the foster parents. I also appreciated that they thoroughly try to find the right home for the animal instead of just any home. I think that's what makes the difference. I ended up adopting my foster! Overall, this is a wonderful organization and I would totally foster or adopt from them again!

I ve dealt with AMA animal rescue for the past couple of years now. They really care about the animals and believe they all deserve a fighting chance no matter the age or ailment. I ve fostered and adopted the love of my life from them almost a year ago and will definitely recommend friends and family looking to foster or adopt. I found a stray dog in my building (Coney Island) this afternoon. How heartbreaking!! After contacting 311 and the 60th precent I googled a rescue group and came across AMA. I texted photos and videos of this poor baby and they responded so quickly to rescue this poor baby! Volunteer Matt was here in less than an hour and safely took the dog away. Everyone in the building was sooo relieved! Mariya, you are heaven sent. God bless you all for the work that you do for our furry babies!

This group is great! RESPONSIVE & HELPFUL. I called them when I found a kitten that seemed to be blind on the sidewalk cold and alone. Within 20 minutes of messaging AMA through the number they provided to text with photos and videos of the kitten, someone responded and organized getting the kitten a vet visit and attempted to find someone to pick the kitten up. I ended up driving the kitten to the vet that was only a few minutes away from my home. It was great!
