Very good hotel with excellent food and friendly staff
It's like an oasis in the middle of the highlands. It appears from nothing. Ideal to stop and remember everything seen until there.
Lost in the depths of Scotland, very pleasant with deer and sheep for neighbors.
We slept in the cabin, poorly insulated from the cold but otherwise adequate and clean.
The hotel is very old fashioned and probably traditional. The reception was very friendly and there was nothing to complain about in the room, mine even had a bathtub! And since the place has no restaurant / shop, it is very good to eat in the hotel. Because I had special requests, the cook gave me extra suggestions for what I could have and it tasted great! I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Only place for miles where you can get a cup of tea. Nice helpful staff
Fantastic place, location , food, staff, WiFi is good too, rooms a little dated but have charm, the roads around this hotel are fantastic driving roads not far off the north 500 route, would recommend and will return
Television didn't work properly. Limited internet which is not defined in description and beds not very good.
Lovely location, quiet, excellent food and facilities. It is dog friendly and has everything a fisher would want for a fishing holiday.
Cute and quiet hotel. Very charming. Stopped in during JOGLE cycling trip and it was one of our favourite lunch stops.
very nice hotel well run by Becky and Daniel, food was 1st class , as they say we will be back.
Ok ! Very dated, it is the highlands so its 50 years behind the times, missed breakfast so asked for sandwiches! Got charged 14 quid for four slices of bread and a cheap tin of tuna! Disgusting price considering it would of cost 3.50 for a decent sandwich, disgusted and would definitely not recommend! Stay in a tent and enjoy yerselves! Really not worth your time or effort!
Friendly place with good food. Fine Highland hospitality.
Such a magical setting and a lovely warm traditional lounge.
Stopped off for a swift drink after climbing Ben Hope, bar and drinks ok, can't comment on the accomodation, beautiful beer garden tho'
An unassuming exterior appearance belies the warm welcome to be found within the building after arrival. I have passed the hotel many, many times in years gone by but never had cause or reason to stay overnight. This trip though I planned an overnight stop specifically at Altnaharra Hotel and I was not disappointed. All the staff members I encountered were very hospitable, the food quality was excellent and the overall service level was just perfect. A lovely ambience in the Ghillies Bar, with a roaring log fire and cosy-comfortable armchairs. My dog was made to feel very welcome too. The hotel appears to be under new ownership, the person we spoke to shortly before our departure was clearly knowledgeable about the challenges of running a quality establishment off the beaten track, and she was keen to receive any feedback we had about our stay, whether positive or negative. In truth, we couldn't think of anything negative at all, not even issues with hot water that other reviewers have mentioned. We loved Altnaharra Hotel in entirety, and would certainly stay there again in the future. No hesitation in recommending to others.
While driving through the Highlands, we stopped to see if we could eat here in line with the advertising outside. The young lady at reception was very frosty and seemed surprised we were trying our luck. She offered no hospitality in the restaurant or the bar.
Most pleasant stay, warm welcome good clean room and a fantastic breakfast. Many thanks
Stopped by for a coffee on the way to Durness. Made very welcome, great coffee and will definitely return to stay on our next visit to the area.
Great hotel and food to match...but watch out for the midges! Eaten alive every time you step outside. Very remote but that's what we wanted.
Small simple hotel. The reception was rather reserved, almost unfriendly. The decor in the room was basic and I had an uncomfortable bed. Also, the room was not clean! It looked like someone was marching straight out of the garden.
But the food was excellent. You do not have that much choice, but it was delicious. The decor in the longue was very cozy and special.
Stopped here for morning coffee and afternoon tea whilst cycle touring, both were excellent. Classic elegant highland hotel
Just read on ' Justgiving ' that this hotel waived the hotel bill for those involved in a charity bike ride which ended in the tragic death of Anna Roots last weekend. The hotel requested that the bill payment be donated to Anna's Justgiving cause instead. What a lovely thing to do.
Unfortunately a very tired hotel in a wonderful location. Some members of staff were very unapproachable. Hotel needs a deep clean due to being pet friendly. The one saving grace was the evening meal
Best black pudding I've ever tasted served here! Hot water in rooms can be a hit or a miss.
Lovely hotel in the middle of nowhere. Excellent food, great whiskys and good beer. Lovely people and guests. Very much loved by fishermen also.
Stylish, very clean and very nice staff.
The Altnaharra Hotel was built in 1820, and you can see that in the building - in a positive way! The rooms are well equipped and very clean. On the ground floor there are the restaurant, a bar and a total of three lodges, which are stylishly furnished with an open fireplace. The staff is very polite and courteous. Anyone planning a visit to the northern highlands is in good hands here.
A very mixed experience, the location and the food was great but the service was a bit peculiar, think more Faulty Towers without the rudeness ...I understand it s under new owners, while none of the staff were rude, investing in training for them would be a good thing.
Pulled over for our elevensies, thought it was still closed, but they opened the bar door to let us in. Got our coffee from the bar asked to close the door to keep the beasties out, found it warm and friendly as was the staff.
Super friendly staff, great coffee in a most amazing location. We've stayed here before and will not hesitate to come back.
We enjoyed our stay here. Traditional kind of hotel with a very cosy bar area. I really enjoyed the food, the scallops and venison was great. I also really enjoyed the smoked haddock and poached egg for breakfast. Only issue is you might struggle to get hot water in the bathroom if other rooms are using it at the same time.
A delicious meal, a service accompanied by sumptuous smiles, a pleasant and nicely prepared room ... A very pleasant place to dine ..
I unfortunately could not test the rooms, not residing there ..
Probably my favourite hotel in Scotland. Quirky, comfortable, and really great food. Love the open fires, the fact that the bathrooms could do with an update just adds to its charm. Staff are doing a great job despite Covid!
Super location, cold showers, pricey food and drink.
While driving through the Highlands, we stopped to see if we could eat here in line with the advertising outside.
Beautiful structure dated but a little in disgrace
It is not worth the money it costs
Really enjoyed a short stay here. Staff friendly, helpful and very accommodating. Spitting distance from Ben Hope, the most northerly Munro in Scotland, set next to a loch and surrounded by dramatic landscape. Food was great, bedrooms rustic but comfortable and everything one would expect from a remote Scottish hotel. Will visit again for sure.
Friendly and well-sited hotel in a convenient spot on the journey north - a great mix of home comforts and good food with the isolation and grandeur of the surrounding scenery.
Lovely hotel and great staff. The surroundings are stunning.
The place, both the hotel, and the area, are delightful, and the staff charming .
Great service, friendly people, cofy bed and great food. Will be back
Wonderful old world Inn, lots of atmosphere. I felt really enveloped in old world charm and sophistication. Real log fire, very quiet.
Remote hotel. Great for exploring the local area. Beautiful scenery.
