AIAG: Collaborating for Global Standards in the Auto Industry
AIAG, or the Automotive Industry Action Group, is a non-profit organization that brings together members of the auto industry to develop common global standards for Quality, Supply Chain, and Corporate Responsibility issues. Founded in 1982 by a group of visionary auto executives who recognized the need for collaboration on quality issues, AIAG has grown into a respected global organization with over 3,000 members from around the world.
At AIAG, we believe that collaboration is key to driving innovation and improving efficiency in the auto industry. By working together to develop common standards and best practices, we can help our members reduce costs and improve quality while also promoting sustainability and social responsibility.
Quality Standards
One of AIAG's primary areas of focus is developing quality standards for the auto industry. Our Quality initiatives include programs such as Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). These programs provide guidelines for ensuring that products meet customer requirements while also reducing waste and minimizing defects.
Supply Chain Standards
In addition to quality standards, AIAG also develops supply chain standards that help our members optimize their operations. Our Supply Chain initiatives include programs such as Materials Management Operations Guideline/Logistics Evaluation (MMOG/LE) which provides guidelines for managing materials flow within an organization's facilities; Global MMOG/LE which extends these guidelines globally; Electronic Proof of Delivery (ePOD) which provides electronic proof-of-delivery information; Conflict Minerals Reporting Template(CMRT) which helps companies identify if their products contain conflict minerals or not; etc.
Corporate Responsibility Standards
Finally, AIAG is committed to promoting corporate responsibility throughout the auto industry. Our Corporate Responsibility initiatives include programs such as Responsible Materials Sourcing(RMS) which helps companies identify responsible sources of raw materials used in automotive production; Sustainability Reporting Guidelines(SRG) which provides guidance on how companies can report on their sustainability performance using standardized metrics; etc.
