Agave Mexican Bistro Review

This place is huge. Has plenty of seating as well as a huge menu. Tho the menu has a lot of variety, the flavor of the food tastes non-mexican. You will leave here unimpressed and wishing they had more taqueria style food. This is your average American Mexican restaurant.

Nice margaritas. Tasty food and excellent service. Family friendly and relaxed.

Agave has great food and drinks. Staff is friendly. Although the food is a bit more expensive than your local tacorea, it is worth it! Meals typically come with large portions.

My family and I like to come here a lot. Unfortunately today the service was very slow. It took at least half an hour to order, and even longer for us to receive the check and leave. I m a little disappointed considering this is one of our favorite spots.

An alright Mexican restaurant. I got beef taquitos which were a bit dry, but otherwise pretty tasty. The place is clean and nice.

The salsas were delicious and spicy! Our portions were generous and tasty.

Food was awesome, but service was very subpar. When I went with my group of friends, it took around 10 minutes to get water and chips, another 10 minutes for someone to take our order, and another 10 minutes after finishing just to get the check. While I understand that our server was also the bartender that night, I don't think that doing both bartending and serving is of benefit to the restaurant or it's customers.

Service is ordinary during rush hour.
Drinks are great. Food is decent.
It's more of a 3.5 but can't give it that so going with 4.0 cause of the TVs playing various sports channels.

Really yummy and very large portions (I have enough left over for another meal).

Great margaritas, televisions to watch sporting events, rarely much of a wait. Good good, friendly help.

This amazing Mexican restaurant is close to the light rail!!! We had a family dinner with 2 elementary aged children and they BOTH ate all their food (a first!! My youngest is super picky!). We have lots of Mexican food in the Central Valley but this find puts many to shame. The food is awesome!!

The starter chips were crispy and tasted freshly made. I had a grilled Mahi Mahi fish and it was cooked perfectly!!! My son had carne Asada (on a kids menu!!! Awesome!!) he ate every bite. My daughter had the kids quesadilla and my husband had steak fajitas. I tried his steak and it melted in my mouth!!! The food arrived quickly!!

I am so glad we found this place!!! We can t wait to return.

Been here once with friends and enjoyed our time. Tortilla chips were fresh and warm. Guacamole was not to the mark, we got lemons and some salt to fix it :)

First time visiting here. Place was busy, since it was a friday night on Castro street. However service was friendly and reasonably quick. We ordered couple of Margaritas and Fajitas (Veggie & Chicken). Good amount of portions, fajitas were tasty too. We really liked the chips and salsas. Chips were very fresh and Salsas were great too. Restaurants has two sections one in the bar area with high chairs and the other one with regular chairs. Looking forward to visiting again.

Jolly atmosphere and nice staff, balanced out with uneven food. We were a big and loud party and they were very good about it, catering well to all our needs. However, my fish tacos were a little greasy, and so were the chips they brought us before the meal. Really liked my hibiscus mojito though; boozy but still refreshing.

Great food. Great service. Even for a party of 20, they gave us great service.

Agave has my favorite Margarita in the bay area. The house Margarita is always a good choice. We don't typically order food, but the queso fundido is excellent! Service is terrific, too! I recommend trying to find seating on the patio in the warmer months.

Came in late tonight with my friend after having a hard day. Our server & host, Jesus, changed all that & gave us the best meal and service. Thank you again!

Friendly staff... went in for a drink (we had eaten at another place but I wanted a good margarita and that place didn't serve alcohol)and they gave us chips and salsa and the kids some delicious vanilla ice cream... would love to come back and eat...

My experience here was not great! I waited about 10 minutes before the waiter realized I was seated. I debated leaving, but decided not too because I really wanted to try their food. After I ordered my food, it arrived within 5 minutes. I like fast service, but this was awkwardly fast. Too fast for the proper quality of a sit down restaurant. The waiter never touched base with me after he took my order and I waited about 15 minutes after I was done eating to get my bill. I went to sign the check and a bug came running out from the receipt. After that, I felt sick to my stomach.

I visited this place again recently, and I was impressed by the greatly improved menu. Camarones Xochitl were particularly original and tasty.

Delicious is thy name!! Super delicious food!! Especially their green sauce to my Indian toungue!! Love this place.

Amazing food, reasonably priced for the portions, great vibe, friendly staff. I have no complaints. The drinks are pretty good too. Ask for the michelada, it ll blow your socks off.

Amazing authentic Mexican food and equally incredible drinks. Best Mexican food we have had in Silicon Valley so far. I got the guava jalapeno cocktail and the carnitas burrito and feel like I never will need to try anything else. From the handmade chips to the guacamole and salsas, everything was so good. We went at 5pm on a Friday and it was kid friendly. There is great outdoor seating and a free parking garage right around the corner. Service was excellent, love this place and we will be regulars here.

Very satisfying dishes, good portions and differentiated tastes. It's currently one of our standards in terms of Mexican in the area.

The food is good, but the service was really slow. The place wasn't all that busy so I was disappointed with the wait times for things like taking our order or bringing the check.

Incredible Mexican food with amazing service!! Luis was our waiter and was on top of it from keeping things clean to great food recommendations. We had some awesome guacamole and a stellar burrito. Would highly recommend coming here for a great meal!

Food is close to the old fiesta del Mar from shoreline.

I ordered online for delivery the Mole Poblano Burrito which the menu described as Chicken, Smothered In A Rich Dark Sauce Made Of Dried Chiles (Mulato, Pasilla, And Ancho), Ground Nuts, Seeds. What I received was a burrito with plain chicken, no mole sauce and with rice and beans on the side. Very disappointing.

It wasn't bad.

Food was amazing! I got a mole burrito and it was on point. My partner got a lunch portion of nachos and it was insanely large, although he said it was average and he probably wouldn't order it again. Roommate got a burrito with a sour cream based mole and loved it. I find Mexican restaurants can be hit or miss with their rice and beans but Agave definitely does them well.

That being said, our service for Sunday lunch was pretty atrocious even though the restaurant wasn't too busy. They seemed slightly understaffed but even considering that it was still subpar.

Overall I would return if someone wanted to go there, but it won't be a staple in our household.

The atmosphere is nice. The prices are kinda high. I ordered a shrimp burrito. I'm not sure what you would call (what appeared to be) frozen shrimp wrapped in a tortilla, but it doesn't meet my definition of a burrito, shrimp or otherwise.

Good food and drinks but $4-5 for a basic street taco on happy hour. You have to be joking.

We were there last night. The food and drinks are pretty decent, and we find the prices okay. I think it's a nice place to go for lunch or dinner.

ALL I CAN SAY IS THIS PLACE IS EXCELLENT!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED IT I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT !!! (RECOMMEND GETTING THE BLUE AGAVE STEAK)

The salsa/nacho appetizer is pretty good. I always recommend the quesadilla with carne asada. All other options are 4 stars at best. There are TVs too to watch sports.

Pretty good, menu a tad unclear on some dishes so if you have dietary issues don't be afraid of asking questions.

I've eaten here twice before and their Carintas is excellent as are the Margaritas. Happy to be back from my walkable Hampton Inn.

Excellent food!! Service a little slow... Do go if you are in a hurry, but if you have time, will enjoy it a lot!

Horrible experience. Service could not have been worse. Was seated at a table outside and sat with my companions for 15 minutes before one of us went inside to fetch a waiter. The waiter took our order and left. Then it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and then a little longer for the food. The order was messed up for me but I didn't want to reorder as I was already too hungry. One of my companions didn't get a straw, asked for one and we never saw the straw. Also the water was never refilled.

Even though I didn't get what I wanted, the food I had was good. The margaritas were good. But the service was absolutely awful. For how much things cost there, the service was unacceptable.

I liked the shrimp cocktail. Our entree was just ok.

I didn't like their calamari because it was burnt to a crisp. However my friends raved about how great their food was so it depends on your taste.
