Agave Mexican Bistro Review

Great place for traditional Mexican food as well as some creative recipes. Highly recommend their Queso fundido, ceviche, and the Yaqui tacos are to die for! Heavy pours and great bar selection round out this marvelous experience

The carnitas plate was the worst I've had anywhere. It was dry and stringy and not that tasty. The plate included a little rice, a cup of beans, some pickled onions and spicy pickled carrots and peppers. I had to practically tackle the waiter to get the tortillas that come with it (he asked me flour or corn). There were no condiments provided for the plate. No guac, sour cream, pico de gallo, salsa, nothing. They were very poor at refilling the water decanters, too.

I'd have given this 1 star, but the other people at my table got food that looked much better.

It was ok, great service but i order a cadilac margarita and it seems they used the cheapest tequila they had... the calamari was really good...

Food was good but the number of flies inside made the meal less enjoyable. Guava margarita also had flies in it...twice.

An OK Mexican restaurant on Castro. The service was fine, but the food was just ok.
One of our meal (beef) was not fresh, and the meat had a bad smell. We did not eat it.

Food was delicious even though my order was incorrect. I ordered sauteed fish, and it came out deep fried instead. Mixed drinks took an oddly long time to make, about 10 minutes after we ordered them, and there were only 4 tables at the time.

Acceptablea food, the ceviche is good while larger plates were less impressive

Great food. Freshly made and very flavorful and authentic. Very attentive staff that are very knowledgeable of menu.

Have a good happy hour durning the week. They have an outside dining area in the back that is dog friendly. We are always happy with the food we get here. Good vegetarian options.

The chips and salsa that comes with the table was pretty good. We ended up adding the guacamole but it was only okay. The chicken enchiladas were good. I would consider going back but there are a lot of good places off Castro.

Being a vegetarian going to a Mexican restaurant is a hit or miss. This restaurant is definitely a hit with me. I tried the Enjococado entree, replacing chicken with veggies. Their 100 year old recipe for the sauce! It was very very good. I would have loved more rice in it and I should have skipped the corn tortillas.
But the best was their salsas. Am...az...ing! Could have drunk quarts of their fresh spicy salsas. Fresh hot chips too...
Overall definitely a hit. Try it at least once

I usually am really generous with my reviews but I couldn't help but give a 1 star review to this restaurant because of so many reasons. I ordered Tacos De La Calle from Agave for pickup.
I looked at their Google menu and noticed that the cost for Tacos was $11 so I told my roommate to get me that (that was my mistake. I should have looked at the online menu on their website) and later found out that the cost of those 2 tacos was $18 + taxes.
Because of the whole covid situation, I understand the reasoning behind the price hike (if that is the case) and I am totally fine with it but what bothers me is the fact that the food was sub-par (it may even be the most expensive and worst tacos I have ever had). Both tacos just had dry meat and lettuce in it and nothing else (no salsa, guac, dressing) and the size of the tacos was really disappointing as well. It came with a side of really salty chips and really salty and bitter green sauce (chilli Verde I believe). There was also rice and beans but rice was uncooked for most part.

I will not be coming back after this experience.

I ordered the carnitas. They were quite tasty. Why not 5 stars? 5 Stars implies the best possible Mexican Bistro. The food is very good, and if you're looking for Mexican food in downtown Mountain View, I would recommend this.

Nice food. Good quality and real mexican food.
In the other hand, we asked for 4 separate bills (14 people) and It wasn't possible.

I ordered the mole enchiladas they were so yummy but honestly the canned beans were so nasty no flavor what so ever...

Hot tip: Don't fill up on the corn chips, salsa & guacamole before the main meal comes out! I made this mistake as I was really hungry, but then couldn't fit in all my main meal. Rookie error. The melted cheese appetiser we had was amazing. The service was great, considering the large size of our group. They were very accommodating with us bringing in themed decorations and cakes as we had a few occasions to celebrate.

Confused restaurant. Decor like La Bamba burrito shop with TVs blaring sports and glass top tables. Food and prices is more like Viva Sol on El Camino. The special was quite good: imaginative and tasty. Not your usual Mexican fare! Hard to justify the price for the somewhere that feels like hotel sports bar.

Note: only vegetarian option is Chile Relleno. This will limit how often we go. Fiesta Del mar has amazing drunken veggie fajitas, better decor, same margarita list and better prices.

If you were a fan of Fiesta Del Mar on Shoreline Blvd (bull-dozed for development), don t despair. You will find many of the same staff, as well as your favorite menu items, downtown in Agave. In the party room you can even dine among the fishes that decorated the wall of Fiesta Del Mar. What do I love? The Chile Relleno as delicious as I remembered. Nice patio for outdoor seating on a pleasant evening. Prices have been creeping higher, but the staff, food, and atmosphere are great.

I tried the enchiladas before and they were good. Fast service and nice selection of drinks. Came here with a friend and there was good seating for two people. Not too many tables for large groups if I recall.

Everything we ordered seemed exceptionally fresh and beautifully seasoned. I'd definitely go back again.

foods pretty good and decent prices my only complaint is they try to push really expensive drinks on you we were trying to just buy basic tequila shots but the waiter kept pushing $35 shots on us no matter how many times we told them we don't want it

Friendly staff but service is very slow. Wouldn't recommend to go with kids due to this. Food not very good either.

Visited it twice. First time food was extremely spice for us. At the second time we noticed that there is a special pepper mark in the menu that is used to mark spicy food :). So, that time food was fine.

Great place for Mexican food. The service was great and attentive. The food was really good. I would skip the calamari but I would definitely get the enchiladas de enjococado again. That was too good.

You can taste various Mexican food. Both mainstream and drinks are above the level.

I tried their signature dish (orange looking dish). There was a hint of cinnamon and the orange sauce was delicious with the chicken. Would come here again!

Excellent service, fast and very professional, the ambience was really nice also, but the food (we tried the enchiladas and fajitas) was a little too Americanized for my taste.

arrived after closing time. they cooked us a fabulous meal, made unbelievable margaritas and dessert and never rushed us. the food was mouth watering good. this is the place to go....

The service is one of the worst I have seen. They kept us waiting for half an hour after saying it will be ready in 5. It took them 30 minutes to take the order after we were seated. Food was cold and it took forever for them to get the check.

Love their fried chivichanga. Love to celebrate here with small groups and a pitcher of margarita.

I visit this great restaurant quite a bit! This is the best place to to have a good dinner. I visit this spot routinely. The food is of high quality, the staff members are professional and the rates are good. I like being in this restaurant over a good meal.

The chili relleno here was the worst I've had. It was diced vegis in a tomato sauce with some poblanos. Very little cheese. It seemed more like a ratatouille.

Came here for a first date with my Italian beau. Atmosphere was nice. Plenty of T.V. s to watch the different sports playing at once. Had planned on ordering a salad to be cute, but the table next to me got the nachos. So the cuteness went out the window and I ordered the carne asada nachos. They were piled high with all the goodies. Although, Agave is known for their award winning margarita s, I ordered the pineapple mango mojito. It was good but not enough alcohol. I should of ordered the margarita.

WOW, very good food, relaxed atmosphere. I recommend you try the mole poblano, a very good option!

Awesome Margaritas... Owner has been making his own mix for years. Quite a selection of tequila as well for those that enjoy agave. Food was excellent as well. Great seasoning on the carne asada. Will definitely go back!

Amazing food. Beyond awful service. I waited 30 minutes once I sat down to get a drink eventhough the waiter was in the room and only had our large party. We ordered pitchers of margaritas and when they brought them they didn't bring glasses. After waiting 10 mins for glasses I went to the bar to get them. We had to go to the bar also to place our order. We had a party of 14 people and were ordering quite a bit of food and drink -- the food was tasty and the drinks were good but I'd never recommend this place on the fact that we couldn't get served at all.....

Solid, tasty food. It doesn't have a lot of resemblance to mexican food, however.

Average mexican food. I had the chocolate chicken, and I already forgot how it tasted.

Have some unconventional menu preparation - including for the classic old burrito, and not necessarily in a bad way. The guacamole was to die for, and the overall food was quite good. Portion size was quite decent, but the prices still felt a little steep.

Great Oaxacan cuisine for a more interesting take on authentic Mexican food. Excellent margaritas and appetizers, plus some large meat plates, make this a great place for celebrations and dates.

The customer service was awful. Not only did the waiter argue with our party so did the manager.

Good food, friendly staff, lots of TVs for sports. They bring you free chips and salsa to snack on with your drinks. One of my favorite spots in mountain view.

Great Mexican fare with a California twist. The Pescado Veracruz was amazing. Base of grilled Mahi Mahi but the mix of grilled vegetables on top and on the side was the best part

Been sitting here for more than 40 minutes now. Had to call someone to take our order and still nothing. I wonder if they went to buy the raw materials needed to make our food and drinks. Absolutely unacceptable service.

Update: Finally got my food and drink and it was as bad as my experience. Never again here.
