Very interesting business model. They minimize the staff and service to cut down the cost and achieve a decent quality food with reasonable price. Even though the service is minimal, the staff is nice. Good for casual hangout or date.

Although the sign says self-service, the staff there are fantastic, very friendly and efficient. Food was great too, very tasty and affordable. As it goes for any other eateries in the central district, get there by 1130 to beat the lunch crowd. You can get pasta and coffee for less than $25/pax

Can't fault food at Abate but the service is lackluster. I made a reservation but when I got there they didn't have a table ready for me. Instead the waitress told me to go to their sister restaurant down the street. Got there and found out it wasn't a pasta place but a sandwich deli. Went back to the original place and asked why I don't have a table even though I made a reservation and the waitress just replied: "Everyone has a reservation." (Then what's the point of a reservation then?) She did eventually find us a table 20 mins later. This was not the end of the horror; we only got our food more than an hour after ordering. Overall, a terrible night and it really makes me question if I ever want to return to this place again.

One of the rare pasta joints in Singapore that serves both delicious and affordable meals. The interiors are tatstefully done and take you right into Europe. It's a great place to bring friends / family for lunch or dinner.

Had the most horrible pasta ever it s like the chef has emptied the whole bottle of salt on it! Service was non existent the service crew were only concerned with pushing the 2 hot plates of pasta into my hands regardless of how it almost scalded me. The ordering and payment counter is so narrow with cutlery placed just right behind it, causing major obstruction with people ordering their food and others trying to take the cutlery. Seriously do not understand how it received any good review. Ambience was non existent only looks good on pictures. We left as soon as we finished our unfinished food - yes it was that bad!

The Portobello fries had a great crispy, tasty batter - they were the highlight of my meal. We ordered the pesto and vongole pasta which were good but I'm not sure it lived up to our (high) expectations, perhaps because we were expecting heavier flavours. My pasta was freshly made with porcini but I couldn't quite taste the porcini. The pasta was fresh and had a nice bite to it though. I would visit this place again, to try the chef's recommendations which would hopefully be better than the ones we had.

Good pasta that won t burn a hole. They do not charge for service charge and it s all self service from ordering to getting your food but that s not stopping the guys from being nice & friendly! Definitely must try the 100% pasta and the truffle carbonara! The spicy Tuna is yummy too!

Our initial dinner venue was fully booked and we didn't make any reservations thinking it was just another Thursday... We came to realize that it was a painful mistake indeed.

And so we walked around the neighbourhood looking for an alternative, and came across this Italian cafe with several photos of food and ratings pasted all over the front and on the menu stand. We peered in - couple of tables taken, pretty nice decor, albeit bright, and decent price points - why not, we concluded and made our way in.

The service crew was nice, asked if it was our 1st time there and so forth. Seating was up to us and so we chose the big wooden table and sat at the corner. We were told to make our orders where the sign "order and pay here" hangs. Menu was pretty extensive and one can choose how one desires their choice of pasta is made. Pizza wasn't available as yet we were told. Prices were NET and that is why there's barely any table service. So our Linguine Aglio Olio with prawns came to $18.80, a pork chop dish $18.80 and a fried calamari $8.80 with a bottle of prosecco at $42.80 totaling $89.20. Not that bad for 2 for dinner with a bottle of champ... And so we thought. Only cash or Nets for payment is accepted . And yes, the ordering area can be a little tight considering it is also the utensils area and the pickup food area...

Shortly after, the bottle was served to us and it was already opened before it arrived at our table. And it wasn't a prosecco but a Moscato. The staff was nice enough to change out when we told him it was wrong. Everything was collected back. Thereafter I heard a pop at the kitchen area and again he served us an opened bottle. Oh well. No expectations... The prosecco was cold, but not cold enough. No ice bucket to hold but hey, at least they provided flutes.

And after a reasonably short while, the buzzer vibrated which meant the food was ready. I took a plate with each hand and the staff was kind enough to bring the remaining plate to my table. Remember this place has no service charge so he has already gone above and beyond his duty. Thank you for the service. The plates looked old school and are metal, not chinaware. Not exactly picture worthy type...

$18.80 is not exactly value nor expensive but the food quality unfortunately made the price points exorbitant. 4 glass prawns. Some with tail shells and 2 without. Soaked in what we hoped was olive oil and not xxx oil. The thin pork chops (2) were tenderized so it gave a very retro feel to the taste. Salad was a tad old. Lastly the calamari... Oh dear... They should learn from the Taiwanese street food vendors how it's made...

Anyway, the photo attached shows the aftermath of this $90 meal. Why I gave 2 stars instead of 1? Mainly for the particular service staff and that some hope remains that it may yet survive at least 1 year in this cut throat business, if they fine tune their operations and quality.

Was there with my spouse on a Wednesday night. We waited for a long while at the door before we were attended to. While we made a reservation (and had the email confirmation), the restaurant staff said we were not on the list. Nevertheless, she tried to squeeze us in at the bar area.

What we noticed as people trickled in, as there was no safe distancing measures being observed. Every single table was occupied and the place was packed to the brim - tables were barely 50cm apart. At the bar area while we were at, they seated another 2 ladies. We were so close that our elbows could touch each other. Understand this is not a one-off incident as there are other reviews here that mentioned the same thing.

We also noticed they allowed 2 unrelated groups of friends (about 10 pax) to be seated at 2 side-by-side tables. There were plenty of intermingling as it was a birthday celebration. The noise level got so loud that it was difficult for my spouse and I to even talk to each other.

Food-wise, it was average. We waited 40 mins for our 2 pastas, and was surprised to see that people who were seated after us had their food first. Only when we went to the counter to check that our food was served.

Will definitely not return due to the poor service, mediocre food, and non-observance of safe distancing measures during this time of covid.

Great place with well executed classic pastas. We had the shrimp aglio olio and the ragu, and they were both delicious. Can highly recommend the ragu. Mains cost $14-$19. Not the best bargain for the portion size, but definitely worth the money.

Awesome hand made pasta at an affordable price. I tried the mozzarella sticks which comes in 4 pieces and it was really cheesy and nice. Ordered the arrabiata as my main and the bacon's saltiness complimented the sauce very well.

Pasta selection was plentyful. We had the Al Ragu linguini, butter squid tagliatelle, and carbonara gnocchi. The first two were pretty bad but the carbonara gnocchi was pretty good. Their buffalo wings was pretty good - 6pcs/8.80. The fried mozzarella was pretty good too but was also a rip off. 4 measly pieces for $6.80. This restaurant is completely self service which is good as you can save on service tax. Price is alright but their niche, pasta, was abysmal.

Lovely place for Italian but seating a bit small and if you drive, this area has got limited parking. The truffle fries are great for sharing. I feel the restaurant should reduce the amount the combination of pasta and sauce and instead have a few choices. Better to have a few amazing items rather than many so-so choices.

I know it's a pasta place but Tiramisu damn good must order! May have ordered one more if we didn't have other plans. Pork Sausage Tomato Tagliatelle & Chicken Avocado Gnocchi was good but not great, the former one had its tomato sauce mopped up with noodles but sausage weren't to our liking hence meh, the latter tasted rather one dimensional and we added chilli powder to flavor it.

Nice vibes and nice pasta. P.S do not get the tagliarini with any truffle based sauce!! It just doesnt match. I made the mistake of doing that. Also a bit sad that they dont give free waters. They have wonderful carbonara and tomato base sauces though.

Would come here again.

Decided to give it a try because of the number of positive reviews... it sets me wondering how much the restaurant spent on social media marketing as the food is average at best and service is atrocious. I made a dinner reservation but was given a communal table! It was only that I made my objection known, I was given a proper table. While I understand it is not a full service restaurant but the staff is definitely not adequately trained. Overall experience warrants a one time visit only.

The ambience is a win, it's tastefully decorated, feels like I am in Italy. Ordered traditional tiramisu, aglio olio with prawns and a mixed seafood tagliatelle. The garlic infused olive oil with crispy garlic silvers, succelent prawns is delicious, fresh and you can taste the noodles are handmade. If u enjoy a quiet place with some nice wine, this is the place to be.

Came for the reviews... blown away by the bad taste! The pasta sauce is so bland. You would think that after waiting almost 30mins for food... any food would taste good... but dang!

Am shocked that there are good reviews of this place - I do see some 1/2 star reviews, either there are two chefs - one good and one bad, or the chef has some really bad days.

Great pasta which tastes authentic and homely. Some of the starters were lovely too. I can only speak for the pasta mains which is what my table ordered, but I would say some of them were better than others. Prices are reasonable. Good value for money.

Appetizers - skip the fried mozzarella, but go for the Parmesan rosemary fries, which are very moreish. The pasta here is extremely decent given how affordably-priced they are. Have tried the truffle porcini ravioli and Italian meatballs and would recommend both.

The place is overrated !! We checked it on Burpple and were taken in by the TOP 21 best in Singapore rating. The pastas are average. The pizza was good but it took 45 mins to get it. They don t have a service charge given that you need to order and pick up your food but clearly they can t accommodate more than 3-4 tables.

Awesome pasta served here! Came here one weekend ans the place was pretty much to ourselves. Meatball tagliatelle was al dente and so eggy as well. Go for the Al Ragu though if you re a fan of beef. I ll definitely be back for more fried mozzarellas... they pair so well with the sauce and are breaded so thinly. The added crunch adds even more fun!

This is a really good place.

This is a really good place.
It is a nice quite spot, with very inviting interiors. If you're looking for a peaceful establishment with good food this is where you should go.
The staff here are so accommodating and friendly, and even the owner Mr. Gino will delight you with pleasant conversation.
The food, meets and exceeds your expectations. I am very fond of the Polo Toscano, a slow cooked chicken braised in white wine and rosemary served with carrots, onions, olives and tomatoes. This chicken is cooked to perfection, and worth the 20 mins wait. I loved it so much, went back twice in the same week to eat it. To finish my meal, I chose to have the homemade gelato, chocolate flavored. You can also pair your meal with a fine selection of wine, beer and ale.
The restaurant is well priced, very affordable meal for the type of food you are eating, and in that ambiance. They have no GST or service charge levied.
I am very impressed by this fine restaurant and will definitely be visiting it repeatedly. After my third visit in 2 weeks, I can faithfully say I am a loyal patron who highly recommends this place.

Came here with a group of friends last tuesday night. The place was packed.
Its a self service restaurant with the intention to keep their prices low . Works for me.
Food here was really good. At that price and the quality of the food we got that night, we all agreed we will definitely come back again next week. Will recommend to all our friends.

The food is very great. The pasta is very nice and the taste is so awesome. There's no service here so it's a self service restaurant, but for me it's ok because there's no need to pay for an extra. For sure I will come back here together with my friends, it's a highly recommended. Thumbs up keep it up guys.
I love it so much.

Very impressed by my first visit here. The fresh pasta was properly cooked and not soggy. Prices are also decent for the amount, and adding the "extra pasta" top up for $2 resulted in a very very full meal.

Not much of a lunch crowd, which meant it was a very nice and quiet place. Freshly cooked pasta meant a little longer in waiting times but was worth it!

Staff was welcoming and friendly!

Amazing little pasta restaurant serving delicious homemade Italian pasta with traditional recipes. Also has a wide range of tasty starters, some choices for mains and a few yummy desserts. Really authentic flavours and everything is very very decently priced for the quality you get. The friendly owner hearkens from South Italy and uses only the best ingredients too. Also, setting is chic but casual and definitely not poncy. Highly recommended.

Great pasta, but zero service. I was there for lunch and the only customer at that time. Despite having 3 available personnel they didn't even bother brining the plate to my table but expected me to pick it up while they kept browsing their smartphones. I see the low cost concept, but since you don't even get a glass of water I ended up paying as much as decent full-service restaurants in the direct vicinity.

Ordered a carbonara. Pretty much inedible. Sauce was bitter and overpowering (seemed like they used the rind?) and pasta was overcooked (as you'll see in some of the other reviews here). The popular mozza sticks were edible but greasy and very average. I'd suggest you top up a few dollars and head over to Logic instead.

Food was fantastic, 5/5. However the reservation system is seriously flawed. Twice, i had a reservation, and confirmed it beforehand. And upon arrival, we were made to wait for about 30min just to get a seat (longer still to wait for food). One of the waitresses was incredibly kind and patient, and she explained to us that the reservation system accepts bookings for 6.30, 7, 7.30, etc. This doesn t make sense as nobody eats a whole meal in a nice restaurant in just 30 min. Probably would never bother going back on a weekend.

Genuine, homely and value for money. Big menu, for sure! I would rather they focus on perfecting a smaller menu than offer such a big menu and risk maybe mediocre food sometimes. But overall good experience and 10/10 would recommend!

Staff was polite, nice interior decor but very crowded. Came here after seeing good reviews but was disappointed. Ordered Italian Meatball ($14.80) & Truffle Carbonara ($18.80) and both too salty. Fried Mozzarella ($8.80) was average. Tasted as if the meatballs and plate of pasta was doused in salt water before serving. Pasta was handmade for sure, but clumped together upon serving. Looked good but not the most affordable for the taste
