Took my dad to ER got there 1:30pm check in, security, triage all good. Patients very rowdy, screaming at staff for their wait. One patient walking around mask off dry heaving ... x-ray tech good. Then called in back ER so busy he didn t even get a room sat in a hallway on a bed, across from a bathroom which was dirty n bloody .. psych patient yelling, staff n security sitting to monitor those patients.. but they were texting on their cell phones which is a violation of hippa.. eating in the work area.. RN overloaded with work, attending MD poor bed side manner, yanks my dads shirt off right off in the hallway to examine him. Walks him to CAT scan discharged at 830 given papers that do not reflect my dads complaints or plan of care on it. Had the wrong complaint on DC papers. The RN came over after all this said Cat scan should be soon( she then seen the DC papers sitting next to us). And apologized for it being busy. No patient needs to here that. Then after all that she got a set of vitals on him. Granted he was NOT critical, ALSO the ER was busy. BUT at what point should you defer patients to a different ER if you are inadequately staffed to care for them??
